View Full Version : Hoosiers Copying Mika

After Doncaster Mika was chatting about dressing up for his concerts and how he wanted to change the image somewhat as people were copying him , when chatting with him he said to me "in particular" the Hoosiers were an example of people that were copying him.

Ive just looked on the Hoosiers MySpace page and at every gig they are asking for people to dress up in fancy dress ......

Can people not get their own minds???

i know it may be annoying at first- like brothers and sisters, you get over it and learn to live with it... my brother case example

when tickets are bought you are given a special something you have to where... it is only wearable to the concert/ gig whatever you wanna call it, you are diveded into certain groups and you end up having a sing off

uncoppiable coz then noone is gonna wanna spend all the money to personalise their shows!

I'm going to disagree with you there. Its not as if Mika invented "Dress-up" now is it? At the Prince gigs we were told to "wear purple"- I don't know much about David Bowie, but I believe he had the same sort of "dress-ups" going as well. It isn't fair to say that they are copying Mika if the idea itself isn't original.
Now if Mika wanted to patent something of his own- then so be it i.e. lollipop girl, big girl etc...but I don't see that happening. Why not stay as it is?? An idea, apparently, borne totally out of Mika's control (refer to TBA interview and Somerset House) and something that belongs to the fans. Or if he wanted to like he always has done, and not admitted to it, state on the tickets as a pre-requisite what the theme for the dress up should be??

It seems to be the "~controlling hand" that's going a bit too far- IMHO

i think also, because mika strives to be different, that now it is catching on its not as enjoyable

To be honest i think that the whole 'dress up' thing is immature and overrated as it is, so what if someone else wants to do it - their funeral.
Mika should just move on and get a new gimic.

No i didnt mean it in a bad way, i meant that Mika is playing up to the stereotype that the media and general public opinion has created for him, gimicks are just unique or quirky special features that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use. Thus, a gimmick is a special feature for the sake of having a special feature. Mica is supposedly about being 'yourself'.... i will believe it when i see it.

As far as I can see it's only a small proportion of Mika fans who dress up anyway - I do not count the odd flashy fun accessory by the way (points to avatar....:naughty:). I was surprised when I went the other week that most Mika fans dress quite normally and dare I say it, as individuals! I expected to see many many more people dressed up. Twas not the case. So it is a bit of a storm in a teacup I think.

Anyway they always say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Mika ought to be pleased the Hoosiers are copying him!

I actually was a Hoosiers fan until they cancelled a gig.
When they were doing promo and before the chart topping success they organised a gig at a small club in Hitchin (about 5 miles away) The club has a 60 people max capacity, so the second they got big it was 'postponed' then cancelled completely - b*stards!

I used to live near Hitchin, club 85 right? I saw the bulletin they put on Myspace about it.

Right, about the whole dressing up thing.
Does it matter? Your not going to go to a gig because there's dressing up are you? You go because you like the band/singer!
Even if The Hoosiers have copied Mika, they're not getting any credit for it are they. Apart from the happy fans walking around looking like nutters before the gig.

Do you really think Mika should get the credit for the idea of getting people to dress up for his concert? He might be one of the most resent, and the most important to you guys. but give The Hoosiers a break, they enjoy the quirky fun of everyone looking crazy at their gigs!

If you had the opportunity to get loads of people in funny costumes Im sure you would too.

Im not just saying this as a huge Hoosier fan either!

Sorry!

Funny this thread came up again:roftl: So I'll add my 2 cents.

I was also there when Mika was talking about this, in fact he was standing right in front of me when he said it, and what I recall is him saying "you know that when people like The Hoosiers are doing it, it's time to move on"
Then he laughed.

He never said that he had a problem with it, or that he disliked them (not that he would say it even if he DID, hehe!) or anything of the sorts. Just that it was "time to move on".

I personally just took it like one of his "stages", where he's done it for a while, it was "sort" of unique at the time, and now he's bored with the idea and he wants to change....A bit like all the LICM props, the lollipop girls, big girls, etc, that I'm sure he won't have anymore when he does the second album.

:thumb_yello: Obviously this (apart from the literal quote on what Mika said in Donnie) is just My Interpretation, and could be wrong.

Lol... I was looking for Hoosier related thread to have my say in!

Hm...I didn't really get the impression that he was being "bitchy" about it, to be honest.
I just thought that it was the way he often says things, he can have a bit of a funny sense of humour that can come across as "bitchy", but I didn't get a negative vibe from him towards the Hoosiers.

I don't think it's about the Hoosiers themselves but more about others doing it in general.. I see where he's coming from.. But i like the hoosiers anyway

Yes, that is my bet as well. He just wants to be "different", hence ANYONE doing it will not be his cup of tea, and he wants to find something different to do.
I wouldn't take it as a "Mika dislikes the Hoosiers" to be frank. He may like them and he may hate them, but we don't know.

And who cares anyway??:naughty:

Yeah I know what you mean... he want his gigs to be different and all that.
but everyone wants thier gigs to stand out from the crowd in order to leave a lasting impression.
I wonder if he does like them.. Not that it matters
Im a big fan of both of them.. Granted Im more of a Hoosierette then a Mikarette <or what ever the equivelent is>

Ha. Too bad The Flaming Lips never said anything like "Well, when people like Mika start playing on stage in animal costumes, you know it's time to move on..." Could have been quite a tiff there!

I'm amused that he's not tired of the animal costumes then, since others have been doing that before he even started!

Exactly...:naughty: I seem to recall Mika himself saying it, with the exact wording "a la Flaming Lips" when he spoke about his costumes and inflatables at Glasto or somewhere else.

Was that not in the Somerset House footage in fact, when he's speaking to Alan? I think that's when he said it. Not sure though...

As for what he said in Donnie...I really just wouldn't make much of it, I think it was just another case of "Mika's big mouth at work" (not that I'm one to speak, I have a MASSIVE mouth, lol!), and he probably didn't really intend for it to be taken so seriously:roftl: .

I'm From Barcelona (a band from Sweden :naughty:) use huge balloons & huuuuuuuge amounts of the same sort of confetti Mika uses at his shows.
