What’s in a name? Well quite a lot actually. That’s why Mika has changed the title of his album.
No longer ‘We Are Golden’, Mika has retitled it ‘The Boy Who Knew Too Much’. Not only that he has completely redesigned the cover too.

‘The Boy Who Knew Too Much’ is out September 21, preceded on September 7 by the single ‘We Are Golden’.

The tracklisting remains the same. [...]

If it is, it is taken from The Simpsons, I guess.
It was the title of an episode in the 1990s.

Is it?
I've heard it somewhere before as well, but not on the Simpsons.
I thought it was quite a common phrase...

Mika loves the Simpsons, so that's why I thought the idea came from there and the plot of that episode:wink2:

But I'm sure he'll explain:biggrin2:

I LOVE THE ALBUM COVER :wub2:

..Similar concept as the first cover but of course it is different at the same time.

I love when artists have a clear and original visual trademark, too:thumb_yello:

This is OUR (my) BOY!!!!!! :mf_lustslow: :dance_man::toot:

It makes a LOT more sense...the cover is unbelievably awesome: it looks a lot like the first one THOUGH it has these colors of blue specific to a teenage boy...whereas the first one had vibrant ones...

It truly is the continuation...

besides: "The boy who knew too much" (do you get what I mean? :biggrin2: )

I really like the title! Not just because it refers to Simpsons but the style of it reminds me of David Bowie's album title 'the Man Who Sold the World'. Very 70's!

And that artwork is really cool... Just perfect. :wub2:

It is just an abbreviation....long one, like HMDYLM.

Do you think it's a nod to MJ?

He was the boy who knew too much, bursting on the pop scene in the 1970s as the neon-bright centre of his family group, the Jackson 5, singing songs that communicated emotions that should have been beyond the grasp of a prepubescent boy (from Blue Sky's link)

maybe that was Mika's intetion? dedicating it to MJ? :dunno:

I don't think so because this phrase was simply the title of an article on MJ, after his death... I don't think Mika gives album titles as tributes to anyone, but more based on the content of the albums.
However, i do find it possible that he read the article and thought that title was relevant to the concept of his album:wink2:

It's not just long but almost impossible to remember off the top of your head (or fingers) because there are no vowels and three of the letters are not phonetic for their regular sounds (like T=toy, W=word, K=kiss are easy to remember but The, Who and Knew are not) :aah:

http://www.theage.com.au/lifestyle/people/the-boy-who-knew-too-much-20090626-czsd.html

I am a bit surprised it has his Magic Numbers thingy on the front...and that they stayed up all night last night finishing the art and not 12 hours later there it is online.

My thoughts exactly.. they finished it like this morning and straight away it's up :boxed: also surprised at the magic number rosette there.. don't know if Mika actually had MJ in mind when he named it though, doesn't seem like the kind of thing he'd do, but then again.. who am i to know what he would or wouldn't do for real..:teehee: and yes another long abbreviation.. that boy just likes long titles i think..unless he is playing a fool with us.. and trying to cofuse us all:naughty:

I don't think so because this phrase was simply the title of an article on MJ, after his death... I don't think Mika gives album titles as tributes to anyone, but more based on the content of the albums.
However, i do find it possible that he read the article and thought that title was relevant to the concept of his album:wink2:

I like your simpson's influence idea ...:thumb_yello:

I like the cover and title.. though at first instance, i thought what :boxed: then it actually makes sense... it sounds like a book title or a film.. i like it :blush-anim-cl:

I think taht this title is absolutely referred to the Alfred Hitchcock's movie "THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH" (with James Stewart :wub2:)...

and this "thriller trend" is confirmed by the deep and soft voice used in "We are golden" song... that scared us because pronounced like "i see death people" in the "Sixt Sense" movie by M. Night Shyamalan

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
Here's what she said to me.

I was a boy
At an open door
Will i be brown, will i be blue
Or maybe just a toy boy.

Que sera sera
I'm golden so much so much
The future album's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be

The new title is much better, however, I think music journalists will have fun "taking the piss out of it". And the artwork is beautiful, of course :wub2:

EDIT: The only thing I don't like is the picture of him. I don't like how it's just been sort of thrown in there. I think it would look better if it had been placed to look like one of the paintings on the wall.

Artwork is absolutely brilliant!! :biggrin2::biggrin2:
Is only similar to LICM because of logo size and placement, everything else wonderfully different and original:thumb_yello: - kinda prefer it to LICM , maybe just as colour scheme has more contrast of light and dark colours.

Also like title, a good summary of being a teenager in my eyes - there's so much whizzing about in your mind that sometimes you wish you could clear your head (conflicting thoughts, etc) Plus , it's this "knowing too much" and thinking of so much from many different perspectives that probably leads MIKA to create such original, out-there-in-an-awesome-way songs.

Hmm. It's a bit of a mouthful, but I like it; it's creative. I'd like to think that Mika's paying homage to Michael, the Simpsons, Hitchcock, and anything else out there. Let's not be exclusive!

I'm.. not making sense.

In any case, I think it's interesting how the title went from being all inclusive "we" to sort of secular, "the boy". I sort of feel left out.

I just now saw it after blue sky's post where she circled it. It took me forever... look at the red poster right at the end of where she circled, in the black letters it says "if" sideways. The smiley face poster is partially covering up the dot of the "i"

Hope that helps! Took me forever to see it. I don't really think it's purposely like that though.

Just noticed that there are cigarettes (or more likely, "joints") lying on the floor. Bad boy, Mika :wags_finger:

Naughty Nono! Clearly they're meant to be soda pop bottles and candy cigarettes, like these:

Mika would never have booze bottles, cigarettes, or joints on his album art. :mf_rosetinted::naughty:

The postage stamp on the album cover is 1999.
A nod to Prince?
A nod to the year Mika turned 16?

I thought it was a nod to Mika's teen years. Maybe the transition from one century to the next was significant for Mika in terms of his teenage-dom, so that's why he picked that particular year?

I think it is just a clever way of indicating this is a 'picture postcard' from Mika's teenage years.

In 1999 he was 16 so it makes sense, too. (Also, it looks better than 2000 or 1998 but no no nod to Price or MJ , in my opinion)

Oh I miss those :wub2:

Yes, of course. How foolish of me to think Mika would ever put such a nasty thing in his mouth. :teehee:

I wish 1999 me (at age 15) could have met 1999 Mika.

I was a total nutcase at 15, but a rather creative one. I think he and I would have hit it off beautifully. :roftl:

I just now saw it after blue sky's post where she circled it. It took me forever... look at the red poster right at the end of where she circled, in the black letters it says "if" sideways. The smiley face poster is partially covering up the dot of the "i"

Hope that helps! Took me forever to see it. I don't really think it's purposely like that though.

Thank you!:huglove:

With your help I could finally see it! Was going nuts there, thinking I was the only one who didn't see it!:roftl:

Of course you are innocent! An LA :angel_not:

I left London the year before to kind of grow up and start something with my life... Many times I thought if my twenty-something self would have liked the teenage Mika if I ever met him back then but I know I would have, even though we are rather different:teehee:... Actually, I might have even met him, I'll never know. I can't recall being taken aback by a teenager wearing red trousers on the tube. :naughty: ... that would have been shocking in the nineties. Everyone was wearing black and then brown and then black again:blink:

No, but really. I meant it quite innocently and then I realized what people would think after I wrote it, so I kept it anyways :teehee:

THE BOY WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

Posted on August 7th, 2009

What’s in a name? Well quite a lot actually. That’s why Mika has changed the title of his album.

No longer ‘We Are Golden’, Mika has retitled it ‘The Boy Who Knew Too Much’. Not only that he has completely redesigned the cover too.

‘The Boy Who Knew Too Much’ is out September 21, preceded on September 7 by the single ‘We Are Golden’.

The tracklisting remains the same:

1. We Are Golden
2. Blame It On The Girls
3. Rain
4. Dr John
5. I See You
6. Blue Eyes
7. Good Gone Girl
8. Touches You
9. By The Time
10. One Foot Boy
11. Toy Boy
12. Pick Up Off The Floor
+ Digital Insert

For pre-order details of all the available editions of the album, including 2xCD special edition and digital download, click here.

Wow, thank you for this thread and news!
I'm a bit late though...

I love it! It's yeah, similar to the first album cover.....but while on LICM, the design referred to the characters of the album, this one it's all about Mika....his room and stuff.
I think there will be many things to discover in it....and I saw the "IF" when checking it for the first time!
Also.....above "IF" (the right corner of the cover), there's a drawing of a monster (?) it is a bit like NOON or MOON written on it...maybe? I dunno why but there's something in it. I keep staring at it....

Well I think I am in the minority.

I think the album title is dumb. I think musics critics will indeed take the piss, as will every other Mika hater. It sounds so unoriginal.

Do you think WAG sounded original then?

It must be tough being Mika, people are never happy with your choices:naughty:

I don't really care what it's called .... I just want to hear the songs .... :wub2: So as long as it has a CD in it I can play ... I'm happy .... I don't want much do I :lmfao:

Actually I'd like it now and not September ... but .... whatever :aah:

I don't like the title...

It sounds like an independently made short movie...

In fact, it reminds me of a short movie called "The Girl Who Swallowed Bees"... Why I don't know...

I HOPE you remain in minority :naughty: but he actually has to win music critics with the music and not he album title. If they want to take piss they will, no matter what he does:wink2:

I think the fact that you can associate it with many things it might refer to shows that it is a good choice... To begin with, people will start talking about it.. and I think this kind of publicity cannot be bad...

Also, I think he will probably have a long story to tell about the choice of the title, so that will again draw more attention on the album itself than any other dumb things journalists might want to ask him...

But more than anything, when he is so photogenic:wub2:, why do they use such a crap photo of him, which looks like something off the old album two years ago.:sneaky2: Maybe that's the point.:mf_rosetinted:

but he is not Rihanna or Mariah Carey to feature a most perfect Photoshoped photo of himself on the album cover... :naughty:....Actually, I love the photo because it is in between a photo and a painting...as you said, it looks as if taken from an old album... Fully supports the artwork:thumb_yello:

Yeah - i agree; i remember in several reveiws, reveiws mocked the photo of mika on the cover of LICM because; 'the classic pretty boy over photoshopped parted-lips pose on a newcomer'

childish, in my opinion, the new one looks great :thumb_yello:
