TBH the whole album is a work of genius! I keep thinking of those vlogs where he showed us how he built up the songs "like leggo" and now when you hear them, the work that has gone into every one is absolutely mind blowing!
But here goes

I See You (It's the most beautiful big ballad that cries out to be a movie theme)
Touches You (A fabulous beat! A great dance track, totally addictive)
One foot Boy (Totally unique!! Quirky, weird and wonderful)
Good Gone Girl (A fun song in the vein of Love Today)
By The Time (A lovely, end of the evening, smooching song. Kudos to Imogen as well as Mika)

But all of the songs on the album are amazing, brilliant, wonderful!

I have listened to "The Boy Who Knew Too Much" for 7 hours today for the first time.
I still can't decide which is my favourite - they all are & there isn't a check for "all."
About an hour ago I realized that when I first listened to Life In Cartoon Motion I could have chosen a favourite & I didn't love every track.
Some tracks took a few listens before I loved them all.
The Boy Who Knew Too Much is brilliant!

I don't know if it's on ITunes at all, but it's on the deluxe version that contains the Sadler's Wells concert on the second disk. My copy is still on its way so I'm going to have to wait till next week. :aah:

This is so so hard. Close to impossible.
I voted for Pick up.., but then this is a bit like comparing apples and oranges because of that insane variety of genres the album provides.
There's really not a single song of which I would say I don't like it. If I skip WAG or Blue Eyes every now and then, this is really complaining on a very high level. I LOVE Dr John, LOVE One Foot Boy, LOVE Good Gone Girl and everything else, but there's not really any sort of ranking. It's just an excellent gesamtkunstwerk. :clap: :bow:

Lover Boy has really really surprised me. I loathed the demo. But now I just can't hear it without singing along and really getting into it.

Mika and Greg (and Jerry Hey) have done such wonders with that song. The arrangement is quirky and slightly odd but something about the cadence of it and the whole feel of it is irresistible now. It has been the biggest shock of all on the album, for me, and although it's not an official track I think it is the PERFECT closer for the album. After the gorgeous but downbeat PUOTF it rounds off the album in much the same way as the big rousing 'singalong' song does in a musical. That is just genius and I think it should be the official last track on all versions.

It's very difficult to pick a favourite, but I've gone with Toy Boy for a couple of simple reasons.

Firstly, it deals with a subject matter I'm quite sensitive to - being about homosexuality and homophobia (it seems), and I have a couple of gay friends who struggled with being such.

Secondly, and I later saw an interview in which Mika actually voiced the thoughts I had while listening to it - he called it 'empowerment'; the combination of heavy, serious lyrics with upbeat music. He also said in that interview (the making of this album) that it's rapidly becoming his 'signature', something I would have said about this element of his work long before now.

So in short, it's basically that I feel this song best represents the signature style of Mika's music so far. It's genius. :wub2:

Toy Boy is THE song that converted me - I'd always liked Mika superficially (listening to the occasional song) - but the particular piece of musical mastery that is Toy Boy is what made me decide I want to get to really know Mika and his work. :biggrin2: So I'll be dedicating time to that thread.
