I'm making a thread because sooner or later you will be raving about them!
They are well good. Their music is like music you have never heard before.
Their debut album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out reached #13 on the US Billboard 200, and has sold over one million copies since its September 2005 release. They're currently working on their sophomore album :biggrin2:
The current bandmembers are Brendon Urie and Spencer Smith

Funny you say that 'cos quite often the die-hard fans call P!atD Fall Out Boy's baby, because they owe their career to Pete Wentz (FOB's bassist)
But musically they are quite different.. P!atD is way more theatrical... :bleh:

The idea of using theatrics on the level that they do is unique among bands their age, but they're not that great. To be honest, I'm tired of bands like P!ATD and Fall Out Boy being constantly on tv and radio. But still, everyone has their own music choices. :naughty:

It seems they got bottled again at Reading.

A member of Panic! At The Disco was bottled for a second year running on the main stage at the Carling Weekend: Reading Festival today (August 25).

Last year frontman Brendon Urie was briefly knocked out seconds into the band’s first song on the main stage by a bottle thrown from the crowd.

This time, the band took the stage to an ineffectual barrage of bottles none of which threatened the singer as they opened with
‘The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage’.

“Alright, this is going better than last year,” joked guitarist Ryan Ross. “We made it through the first one.”

However he spoke a little too soon.

During ‘Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes’ - which Urie introduced telling the crowd: “So this one is a little sexier, so if you guys are horny this one is about *beep*!” - bassist Jon Walker was hit in the head by a bottle.

Seemingly unbothered by the blow his singer consoled him afterwards “I know how you feel”, although the bassist laughed it saying “I didn’t get knocked out, I got off lightly.”

The band then followed this with the first of two new songs that were so fresh, the group confirmed to NME.COM they hadn’t even sorted the titles out yet.

The first new song they played had the working title ‘Nine In The Afternoon’ and sounded more jaunty and piano led then their beat-enhanced earlier tracks.

After crowd favourites ‘But It’s Better If You Do’ and ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’, the band then covered The Band’s track ‘The Weight’.

Panic! At The Disco then played a pumped-up version of the classic.

The band then played their second new track, again with a working title, ‘Middle Of Summer’ which proved a rocky keyboard led stomper.

Thanking the crowd for being “so well behaved” Urie and co then wrapped their set up with ‘Build God, Then We’ll Talk’.

oh no! poor little ryan! but seriously, id be suprised if they returned to reading again next year, it seems to be turning into some sick kind of tradition now, to throw bottles at PATD when they're at reading :sneaky2:  like, Brendon was only 19 last year, he was just a little boy! and they're throwing bottles at his head!!!

What do Diddy, Panic! at the Disco's Ryan Ross and Fred Durst have in common? They've all earned the less-than-distinguished honor of being selected for Blender's "The 40 Worst Lyricists in Rock" list. Will.I.Am, Billy Corgan, Anthony Kiedis, Common, Dashboard Confessional, Timbaland and, of course, Kevin Federline, also make the (F) grade, with Sting landing in the #1 spot. The list appears in the magazine's November issue, which streets October 16

That's not good. :tears: Ryan's lyrics are GREAT!!

About the new album..

Unreleased songs sounded like another band

Panic! At The Disco have scrapped their second album after recording a batch of songs they say are too weird.

The band told NME that the follow-up to 2006's 'A Fever You Can't Sweat Out' sounded too much like another band.

Guitarist Ryan Ross said: "We're taking a lot longer than we thought we would. It's almost as if we were writing two records. We did almost an entire album and then started over, so at the moment we're trying to catch up, but we're all really happy with the songs right now and we'll be done by February."

Initially thinking they were making great progress, Panic! At The Disco wrote their first batch of songs at sessions in a hidden away cabin deep in the Nevada desert last summer.

Ross admits: "We lost our minds a little bit up there, it's safe to say... We were totally cut off. It was kind of like therapy! It was a really good learning experience for us because some of those songs are really intricate - they were challenging to write, but I don't know if it would have been the best thing for the band to release that record."

Ross jokes: "We'll probably end-up starting another band to play those songs. It was that different to what we'd done before. It was out there."

The band finally decided to scrap the songs last summer.

Bassist Jon Walker said: "It was Summer Fest in Milwaukee at the beginning of July... we all sat down and talked about it.

"There was definitely a vibe when we came off tour playing the same songs (from the first album) for like two years, that, when we started writing, we started doing way different stuff. Then halfway through we realised it didn't feel like us."

Panic! At The Disco are now back at home in Las Vegas and working from scratch again.

20 • Ryan Ross
A Sin City kid whose pomo pretension is as thick as his eyeliner.

Curse the day that Ryan Ross discovered thesaurus.com. The guitarist and chief lyricist for Vegas emo dandies Panic! At the Disco, Ross writes like the quill and inkwell never went out of fashion, cramming his tarantellas full of baroque wordplay and breathless verbal curlicues. This might be easier to bear if they didn’t also ooze middlebrow smarty-pants-ness, with "clever" references to Wes Anderson flicks and the collected works of Chuck Palahniuk. And need we even mention that exclamation point?

Worst lyric: "And I believe this may call for a proper introduction/And well, don’t you see, I’m the narrator, and this is just the prologue?" ("The Only Difference Between Martyrdom and Suicide Is Press Coverage")

ohmygod.

Members of Las Vegas four-piece Panic! At The Disco are taking a stripped-down approach to their as-yet-untitled sophomore album, due March 25 via Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen, relying less on computer software and more on their abilities as musicians, says Panic! guitarist/lyricist Ryan Ross.

"We just wanted the record to sound like four people playing a song," Ross tells Billboard.com. "A lot of the songs are definitely more geared toward playing live; we didn't think about that on the last record."

Musically, the emo rock band is "working backwards," Ross explains, drawing musical influence from such classic rocks acts as the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and the Beach Boys. "When I started playing music, all I was hearing was whatever was on the radio," the guitarist explains. "I'm 21 now, so a lot of my musical tastes have changed."

Along with some horn and string orchestral arrangements, "I played harmonica on a song and did some slide guitar, which we've never done before," Ross notes.

To help achieve the new sound, Panic! tapped producer Rob Mathes, who worked with the band on cover song "This Is Halloween" for the soundtrack of last winter's re-release of Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas." "We didn't want to go with one of the big rock producers, who say, 'It's my way or the highway,'" Ross says. "[Rob] has a really positive attitude and keeps us motivated when we're sometimes not feeling it."

Discovered online by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz, Panic! made a splash with 2005's "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out," which has sold 1.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Not long after the album's release, the act became a headliner on the road, grossing nearly $6 million from 50 concerts in 2006, according to Billboard Boxscore.

Indeed, Panic! has learned a few lessons during that time, many of which are reflected on new songs like "Things Have Changed" and "Nine in the Afternoon." Lyrically, Ross is moving away from sarcastic one-liners and focusing on "our situation now and how things are a lot different than they were on the last record," he explains.

"Nine in the Afternoon," which the band road-tested on summer gigs, is about "all of the things you get caught up in while you're in a band ... then coming back and realizing that it's just fun making music with your four best friends," Ross says.

In support of its forthcoming album, Panic! will play U.S. theaters this March, according to Ross. Known for its elaborate stage setup and costumes, the band "just started throwing around ideas for a tour," Ross says. Although there are no concrete plans for how performance will play out, the guitarist can assure fans of one thing: "We're not going to do a circus show again."

ZOMG!!1 at the date and the last phrase!!!1 No circus shows!? OMG!!!

Yet another update at Panicatthedisco.com. The missing puzzle piece has been replaced with 01:01:08 and when you hover your cursor over the shaded puzzle piece, a clip of a song plays.

The coding source has also been changed, a new line has been added: Care for an hors d'oeuvre?
Which means, "care for an appetizer?" :mf_rosetinted:

And the band posted a new MySpace blog!!

Dear friends,
It's great to talk to you again. It has been quite a while since we have let you know what we've been up to. Recording over the last six months has been an amazing experience, and we couldn't be more excited to show all of you what we've been working on.

Over the next 5 days we will finish in the studio at home and make our way to Abbey Road Studios in London (which truly is a dream come true for us). There, we will record all of the strings, horns, whatchyamacallit's, and so on. Then, we will mix the record at Abbey Road as well.

But before we do all that, we wanted to give you something for all of your patience over the last year. So we've posted a rough version of a new song titled, 'Were So Starving' (it's at the last song in the player below). This is not the final mix or version of the song, and it will undergo some change while we're in London, but we wanted to show you something from what we've done so far. Hope you enjoy.

Until next time - Panic At The Disco

Panic! At The Disco have confirmed details of their UK return. The band, who recently divided their more punctuation-minded fans by dropping the "!" from their name, are set to return with a new single.

The outfit will release 'Nine In The Afternoon', which they played for the first time at last years Reading Festival, on March 10.

Panic At The Disco's new album - your track-by-track guide

We've had a listen to 'Pretty. Odd' at Abbey Road Studios in London, where the band recorded the strings.

It's due out in March, but here's our sneak preview.

NB: These song titles are subject to change.

1) 'We're So Starving'
A knowingly tongue-in-cheek introduction to the album "We were busy writing songs for you You don't have to worry/We're still the same!" sings frontman Brendon Urie but, what with the Queen-esque multi-tracked vocals and bombastic backing track, one that sets the tone for what's to come all the same

2) '9 In The Afternoon'Which is, essentially, 'Sgt. Pepper' had The Beatles taken a Magical Mystery Tour to the Bellagio Casino on Vegas' strip. This first single features clanking bells, fairground horns, lush orchestration, joyous handclaps and a vaguely lysergic lyric ("Nine in the afternoon / Your eyes are the size of the moon"). Moping emo rock this ain't.

3) 'She's A Handsome Woman'
The Beatles' references take a detour into 'Revolver' territory as Ryan Ross embellishes a tight-but-disarmingly off-kilter rhythm with George Harrison-esque guitar stabs and squeals.

4) 'Do You Know What I'm Seeing'
Idyllic birdsong, lilting, folky guitar lines and a nursery rhyme melody herald yet another stylistic curveball, as Panic come over all early-Pink Floyd and embrace eccentric English psych-pop. Yet another killer chorus is ushered in by swooning strings, rich vocal harmonies and a faintly nonsensical lyric: "I never gave a damn about the weather/But it never gave a damn about me". You can't but admire Panic's ambition.

5) 'The Green Gentleman'
God knows what the budget was for 'Pretty. Odd', but if it cost anything less than a million dollars to record, then the band have done well, because it certainly sounds it. This one sounds HUGE, as though Disney had decided to re-record 'High School Musical' with The Polyphonic Spree. Only infinitely better than that sounds.

6) 'I Have Friends In Holy Spaces'
Another shift of gears, as Panic adopt the personae of an old Mississippi river boat band, complete with banjo, clarinet and authentic scratchy period sound. The lyric, however, appears to be bang up to date, Urie seemingly struggling with the affects of fame: "You remind me of a few of my famous friends/Well, that all depends on what you qualify as 'friends'".

7) 'Northern Downpour'
Noticeably more traditional in structure that what's gone before, 'Northern Downpour' borrows heavily from classic American AOR bands - think The Feeling, but with the plastic veneer replaced with warmth and soul. Urie's surprisingly soulful vocals carry the tune to its gradual yet joyous crescendo.

8) 'When The Day Met The Night'
Given the all-encompassing nature of this album, it was surely only a matter of time before Panic dabbled in eastern-tinged melodies. What is surprising, however, is the way in which they subvert your expectation - again - by shoe-horning in another show-stopping showtune-esque chorus. Brilliant.

9) 'Pas De Cheval'
Arguably the most conventional song on the album, 'Pas De Cheval' starts with a cheeky nod to Neil Diamond's' 'I'm A Believer' before building to a chorus carved from '70s American FM rock radio. Will surely rule the airwaves if released as a summer single in the States.

10) 'The Piano Knows Something I Don't'
And then we're back on familiar ground as Panic plunge headlong into Beatles' territory for a bombastic 'Mr Kite' style collage of bells, brass and woodwind instruments, before slamming on the brakes for a psychedelic pastoral breakdown, complete with woodland sounds and lush vocal harmonies. Even on an album positively preoccupied with variations in pace and arrangements, this song stands out.

11) 'Behind The Sea'
And so the Panic TARDIS touches down in Haight Ashbury at the height of the Summer Of Love for a late-night love-in (and, indeed, Love-in the spirit of Arthur Lee is much in evidence here). Panic's musical ADD soon kicks in, though, and with a 'Whooaah!' we're swept off into a Danny Elfman-inspired fantasy land for the song's second half.

12) 'Folken' Around'
Surely they're taking the piss now A fiddle-inspired back porch country reel? Amazingly, it doesn't sound sh*t, either.

13) 'She Had The World'
Just when you thought there wasn't' a genre of music left for Panic to appropriate, they wheel out a harpsichord for a spot of stately chamber music (albeit more Muse than Mozart). Once again, the lyric is quite deftly juxtaposed with the music, Brendan singing a variation on the classic 'it's not you, it's me' get out clause: "I don't love you/I'm just passing the time/You could love me/If I learned how to lie/But who could love me?/I'm out of my mind".

14) 'From A Mountain In The Middle Of The Cabins'
You can't help but wonder what Panic's established fan base will make of their heroes' musical excursions. As evocative as this deceptively dark whirlwind of Dickensian strings and olde worlde ambience is, it's been some time since we last heard a guitar

15) 'Mad As Rabbits'
Phew here's one, now. Admittedly it's playing a tight-as-you-like '70s style funk motif, but there you go. The song eventually settles into another slice of classic Americana, albeit one peppered with a lyric about a "poor son of a chimney sweep" whose "arms were the branches of Christmas trees". There's just time for some more horn stabs, and another belter of a chorus, and then that's it.

If that all sounds like an astonishingly ambitious but potentially confusing rag bag of moods, genres and styles, then that's probably because it is. 'Pretty. Odd' will undoubtedly surprise and piss off Panic fans and haters alike, but it'll take plenty more playing to determine whether it's actually any good

YAY!!! 15 songs!! :mf_rosetinted: :biggrin2:

I wont cut my beard and I wont change my hair.
It grows like fancy flowers but it grows nowhere.
If I could build my house just like the Trojan horse,
Id put a statue of myself upon the shelf of course.
Shes the smoke, shes dancing fancy pirouettes.
Swan diving off of the deep end of my tragic cigarette.
Shes steam, laughing on the windowpanes.
The never-ending swaying haze,
oh that ever smiling maze ballet.
Everythings gone missing. Ive lost more songs to floods.
I cant prove this makes any sense but I sure hope that it does.
Perhaps, I was born with the curiosity of old crows.
The piano knows something I dont know.

CHECK OUT THE NINE IN THE AFTERNOON VIDEO!!

DO IT!!

:biggrin2:

-- Watch the Nine In The Afternoon video here!!-- (http://youtube.com/watch?v=rsLqV9o40n0)

Band will shoot clip with 'Nine in the Afternoon' director.

Panic at the Disco were so pumped with how their video for "Nine in the Afternoon" turned out you can see it for yourself on Sunday (February 10) at 9:00 p.m. ET on MTV.com that they decided to film a whole new video the very next day.

"The day after our video premieres, we're shooting a new video," bassist Jon Walker laughed, while lounging by the pool at the Orlando, the newest entrant in Los Angeles' ongoing luxury-hotel arms race. "That's how the music industry works, boys and girls."

Indeed it is. So Panic will spend Sunday night at the Grammys, where they're nnominated in the, uh, prestigious Best Boxed or Special Limited-Edition Package category for the deluxe, phenakistoscope-enhanced version of A Fever You Can't Sweat Out they released in November 2006. ("We got one nomination, for an un-televised award," drummer Spencer Smith said. "So we're gonna clean up.") And come Monday, they'll get to work on the clip for "That Green Gentleman," teaming up once again with director Alan Ferguson.

"Yeah, we're working with good old Alan. The treatment is pretty out of this world. It has to do with those Russian [nesting] dolls that you have when you're a kid," guitarist Ryan Ross explained. "You have a big one, and you take the top off and there's a smaller one, and a smaller one. And it never ends. There's young versions of us in the video, like, us as children in the video. Us as toddlers, running around, flying kites."

"Luckily enough, when we were kids," Walker added, "we filmed the first section of this video, so we "

"We dusted it off," Ross laughed. "Jon's mom had a bunch of old VHS tapes, from back when he was still running around, still pooping the pants."

Sounds messy, dudes! But just what does it have to do with the song? Well, much like the video for "Nine in the Afternoon," pretty much nothing. Which is sort of how the guys wanted it.

"We wrote the song together, musically and lyrically," Ross said. "I think more than 'Nine in the Afternoon,' it was more of a statement about us. Saying that things have changed. One of those feel-good songs we wrote in a few hours and liked the feeling it captured."

"It's got a real 'Master of Puppets' vibe to it," Walked joked. "It's pretty heavy."

Cool. So before you guys get all Russian-doll on us, any plans for enjoying the post-Grammy party scene?

"There's a few parties. We never really get invited to hang out at them," Ross said. "Also, who knows if [20-year-old frontman Brendon Urie] will be able to go. He doesn't like to test his luck. He only just got a fake ID from his cousin."

Watch a teaser of the "Mad As Rabbits" video available exclusively on iTunes' Deluxe Version of Pretty. Odd HERE [LINK] (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_npsm4Odg8)

Day 1

You know how sometimes just a little of something goes a really long way? Like guilt, or perfume or viruses? Well that doesnt work with Panic At the Disco.

After last months "Nine Days of Panic," we were left wanting even more Panic At the Disco. Because a little Panic never seems to be enough. Somehow, Panic always breeds more Panic.

Which is why were counting down the eight days (because we already did nine) until the March 18th MTV.com premiere of Pretty. Odd. on The Leak.

Starting today, for the next eight days straight, watch two exclusive Panic At the Disco interview clips, where Brendon, Spencer, Jon and Ryan reveal the meaning behind their new songs and some slightly sordid stories involving boxers, Hannah Montana, and fan gifts they wish they never got.

In the first video, Panic tells you a bit more about "We're So Starving." In the second, they give mad love to Jimmy Kimmel and P.F. Changs.

Eight Days Of Panic Day 6

There are good fan gifts, like boxers with the British flag on them, and then there are not-so-good gifts, like cookies, baked with a little extra love, if you will?

In this first clip, Panic At the Disco explains the weirdest (also the most repulsive) fan gift they ever got.

In the second, Panic discusses their new Pretty. Odd. track, The Piano Knows Something I Dont Know a song they refer to as the most experimental song on the album.

Panic At The Disco have revealed that their latest tour will feature flowers and a theme involving "weather".

The 'Nine In The Afternoon' band became known for their visually appealing live shows while promoting debut album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, with contortionists and circus dancers often appearing alongside them on stage. Now they are keen to promote new album Pretty.Odd. with an equally impressive stage set.

Singer Brendon Urie told DS: "With Fever, we just tried to do something as crazy as the album sounded, and I think that's going to be the goal this time around. We just want to keep up with the music!

"Hopefully we can come up with some cool visuals for it. We've already got a few ideas for the tours coming up, but we'll continue to plan over the next couple or months or so."

When asked to reveal his ideas, Urie replied: "Um... I don't know if I can give them away just yet, but I guess the words "weather", "flowers" and "organic" offer a bit of a clue!"

:biggrin2: :biggrin2:

BTW, I bought Pretty. Odd. today... Srsly, Its fan-tas-tic! :mf_rosetinted: Go buy it!! Gotta love That Green Gentlemen, Norhtern Downpour, When The Day Met The Night, Folkin' Around and The Piano Knows Something I Don't Know :punk:

4Music interviews Jon :mf_rosetinted:

Panic At the Disco declared emo to be "bulls**t" back in 2006 and with their Beatles-esque new album, 'Pretty. Odd', may well have buried that unloved genre forever.

We asked the Las Vegas fourpiece's bassist, Jon Walker, to tell us a few things he's not done but would like to do.

Hello, Jon. What law would you like to break?

Hmm... I wonder what other people say? Do they say they'd like to kill? Really? I would never want to do that.

What food would you like to eat?

I'd like some good Indian British food right now. You invented the right way to do it, and it's great. There's a place called Meghna Grill, right down the street from Abbey Road, and it's the best Indian food I've ever had.

Perhaps that's where John Lennon recorded Instant Korma. Sorry. What musical genre would you like to try?

Jazz or blues would be fun. I've been listening to a lot of old blues folk artists like Howling Wolf, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly... There's such a lot of character in their voices. A lot of those guys have pretty crazy life stories.

What would you like to say in an interview but never have?

Oh wow, I feel like that's the same question as the first one! It's really hard to figure out. I feel like, for our band, there are a lot of misconceptions. I've always wanted to be, "Listen, we're a group of f**king 20-year-old guys just making music and having a good time." Do you know what I mean? I'm 22, the oldest, and Brendan's 20. We all obviously have no idea how the world works and what's going on. Maybe in ten years I'll be a little bit more eligible to answer some of the in-depth questions that people ask.

What religion would you like to dabble in?

I would like to figure out more about meditation. It seems pretty interesting. I was raised a Christian but I don't really practice. I feel like meditation would be really soothing for the soul, especially on some of these tour days when there's nothing to do but sit in the dressing room and be on the internet trying to figure out what's going on. I've read little articles about it but I understand that it takes a lot of discipline in order to get fulfilment.

What celebrity would you like to fondle?

Fondle! Ha ha. There's so many. I have a girlfriend so I'll probably get in trouble if I answer. Why don't we just go with Marilyn Monroe.

We'll get the spade. Which daily task do you wish you were better at?

Exercise. I don't have a regular thing. The shows are obviously pretty good exercise but I like to do some sit-ups and push-ups once in a while; it gets my blood flowing. I did 40 push-ups two days ago and my back is still sore! So I definitely would like to be better at that.

What article of clothing would you like to wear without fear of ridicule?

Sweaters. I want the biggest, ugliest Christmas sweaters, I love 'em! And I can never find good ones that fit me that well. But when I do find a good sweater I wear it till it can't be worn anymore.

Which animal would you like to stroke?

I always wanted to stroke a koala but then we went to Australia and I got to do that. They smell horrible - the worst smelling creatures. It's a mix of the eucalyptus and faeces.

Thank you, Jon from Panic At the Disco.

'Pretty. Odd' is out now
