Despite the wording they kept using on Mika's FB, this was not a competition. It was a fundraising drive and we wanted to raise as much funds as possible for HEMS by opening it up to everyone. We needed them to become members of MFC so we could keep track of everyone and get in touch with them if they won.

Everyone who participated donated money to MFC's fundraising drive to support London's Air Ambulance, which is the important thing. :thumb_yello:

It was a fundraising yes but there is a price by consequenses it was a competition. And If we really want to raise much money without winning ghost members it was not necessary that people be register on MFC in the rules. The London's Air Ambulance could contact the winner because we all let our mail address :thumb_yello:

No, some people didn't allow their email addresses to be viewed by the charity. You have to check a box to make this happen and many many people did not follow the instructions.

In any case MFC was administrating the raffle, not London's Air Ambulance, so we needed to track everyone. The rules were clear from the beginning, before anyone entered the raffle, that there was no registration cut off date for becoming a member of MFC.

I was under the impression that it was a reward for being loyal fan club members and supporting Mika for the past 5 years :dunno:

It's good that we raised so much for HEMS though.

Actually, that's NOT true, Eva. The JustGiving page did not require you
to make your email address available to us, and many people failed to
tick the box that allowed us to see their email addresses. By requiring
people to register on MFC, we then had their email addresses,
and were able to track them down and email
them their tickets -- otherwise, how would we have found them?

And another thing -- we've had plenty of ticket giveaways where we
required people to be members of MFC to be eligible, and not necessarily
for a long time. People have registered,
gotten the tickets and then we've never heard from them again. It
happens. But a lot of people who have registered on those occasions HAVE
continued to be active participants here -- and to keep the MFC vital,
it's important to always attract new members.

Finally, I'm quite sure that there would be complaints no matter what. If I had
won, for example, I know that there would have been talk that the
drawing was fixed. If someone who had been to scores of gigs had
won, there would have been complaints about that. :naughty:

We're all disappointed that we didn't win, but you know what?
This woman has only *just* won and Mika hasn't even announced a tour
yet! So who knows what will happen? I think we should just thank her for
contributing to the charity drive and congratulate her on her good fortune.
She may join in here actively and once she finally does go to
this show, whenever and wherever it may be, she may come back here
and share all her photos and experiences. Let's hope! :biggrin2:

We ran the raffle and the fund-raising the best way we knew how to do it.
It all went fairly smoothly. We were able to raise nearly £6,700 for a
good cause, and attracted lots of new members, while also getting some
very positive publicity for MIKA and Mika Fan Club. I think that was a win
all the way around, no matter how you look at it. :thumb_yello:
