The David Bowie Thread

you rock!

i used to have two posters in my teen room...but it was.... 30 years ago?

of course they are lost now!!!!

but they were impressive...real size half naked bowie near my bed!!!!:wub2:

I was so busy having a birthday, I didn't have a chance

to read this thread until now!

Yet again, Robertina, we are nearly twins!

You surely have read that my three great teenage

loves were Freddie Mercury, Elton John and David Bowie? My bedroom

walls were covered with photos of them -- one wall for each... :wub2:

Imagine:

The year: 1976

Station to Station... The Return of the Thin White Duke

I was 16 and it was the second concert I ever went to. (The first was Elton

John the year before.) It was a big arena -- called the Civic Arena, in

Pittsburgh -- and somehow we had managed to get tickets about 20 rows

from the stage. I was beyond excited.

I remember the show started with a screening of

a short black and white Luis Bunuel film, Un Chien Andalou,

and there's a scene where a razor

blade cuts across an eyeball... Totally shocked me. (Hey, I was just 16!)

And then Bowie came on stage. There was a crush of people pushing

us forward. We ended up quite close to the stage eventually... and it

was just amazing. I just remember the starkness of the black backdrop

and this tall, slim white-haired man in a very neat white suit, almost

glowing as the spotlight shone on him... hmmm... almost reminds me

of someone else...

Believe it or not I've never seen him perform live since, but I've never

forgotten that night, or stopped loving him... :blush-anim-cl:

Oh my TVC 15... oh oh... TVC 15...

*sigh*

31 years ago... How is that even possible?

I love Bowie. I'm in a total Bowie phase at the moment! I've been listening to loads of his music recently. And i've just watched a film he was in 'Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence', anyone seen it?

Oh yeah... once or twice :naughty:

The Hunger... with Susan Sarandon and Catherine Deneuve...

Wait a minute. How old are you? :wink2:

oh great lord, deb!

i'm shivering!

but let me tell you you were a lucky lucky teen!

the 70's in Italy could not offer any concert....it was difficult for us to have pictures (no internet then, you younger fans....) and we bought some uk imported magazine to droll on them!

just 'long players', vinil!!

i went to his concert in Milan..but it was the 'let's dance' phase and i missed all his glorious early songs!

i had an irish penpal then and she was so kinD to send me a whole bowie magazine and a pin...they are kept as relycs in my wardrobe!

deb...we look two real oldling telling stories from the past to our grand-children!!! :old:

I ENJOY THIS THREAD! :wub2: :wub2:

I'm 20 haha! So I assume The Hunger should be next on my list then for his films? :bleh: *notes it down quickly* :naughty:

I would so love to see him live in concert. Be a dream come true! I never thought seeing Brian May and Roger Taylor in concert would ever happen and yet it did, so maybe I will have luck to see Bowie too! :thumb_yello:

I'm not really a great Bowie fan...:blush-anim-cl:

But..

I liked him as this..:wub2: :wub2:

1200jareth.jpg

(I love Labyrinth..:naughty:)

Labyrinth was too unintentionally funny for me to say that I "loved" it (I

remember how we rolled at the Bog of Eternal Stench, saying that was

the bathroom after my husband came out of it :naughty: ) but Bowie

any time is great, of course.

I'm surprised Sivan hasn't chimed in -- isn't Labyrinth her favorite film,

as well?
