Guest lynxcarl
If you take a look at the lyrics, that part has nothing to do with the song. Even Mika says after the part you are question "Lets push this story aside." So, personally, I think its irrelavant, and it seems Mika agrees. kreacher
lyrics to the Italian Edit aren't posted here yet, are they? Love is a drug and you are my cigarette Love is addiction and you are my Nicorette Love is a drug like chocolate like cigarettes I'm feeling sick, I've got to medicate myself I want your love don't try to stop me Can't get enough, still hanging on me Your guilty heart don't let it break you And if you pray well no one's gonna save you Like everyone that you fear and everything you hold dear Even the book in your pocket You are the sun and the light, you are the freedom I fight God will do nothing to stop it The origin is you You're the origin of love Love is a drug and you are my cigarette Love is addiction and you are my Nicorette Love is a drug like chocolate like cigarettes I'm feeling sick, I've got to medicate myself Well if God is a priest and the devil a slut Now there's a reason for loving Like every word that you preach Like every word that you teach With every rule that you breach You know the origin is you Scende su di me la certezza e ora io so che sei l'origine dell'amor. Sale fino a Dio il pensiero mio dubbi non ho più l'origine sei tu Padre nostrum, deus machismo Padre deus, deus machismo Dione madre, deus machismo Deus esso sancto spirito Like stupid Adam and Eve they found their love in a tree God didn't think they deserved it He taught them hate, taught them pride Gave them a leaf, made them hide Let's push their stories aside You know the origin is you Scende su di me la certezza e ora io so che sei l'origine dell'amor. Sale fino a Dio il pensiero mio dubbi non ho più l'origine sei tu Some love's a pill and some love is a candy cane It tastes so sweet but leaves you feeling sick with pain Your love is air, I breathe it in around me Don't know it's there but without it I'm drowning Love, you're the origin of love Thank God that you found me Thank God that you found me Love! Thank God you found me

Thiz W
On 7/5/2012 at 7:18 AM, suzie said: I guess it will become my favourite Mika songs ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OGyB99VL-0 and the song is dedicated to... The music is playful yet complex and I do believe it will be seen as one of the best pop tracks of this decade. I love how simple, yet witty and meaningful the lyrics are, daring to touch a subject that rarely gets into pop songs, especially in such clever way. I tend to dislike comparing songs to each other but for me, the first songs that come to my mind in relation to TOOL is 'All You Need is Love' in the sound of the chorus and 'Supreme' by Robbie in its use of grotesque lyrics. And there is also some early Erasure and Yazoo sound I can hear , making it a perfect, uplifting pop record with the extra 'Latin' chant thrown in to take addiction to a spiritual level. It's perfect I can't wait to hear the album version, as well as some orchestal performance of it with a choir if possible. NOTE: above comments were based on the live version as heard in at the summer festivals. I like the recorded one as well, just wanted to make this clear... Lyrics : The Origin of Love Love is a drug and you are my cigarette Love is addiction and you are my Nicorette Love is a drug, like chocolate, like cigarettes I'm feeling sick I got to medicate myself I want your love don't try to stop me Can't get enough, still hanging on me Your guilty heart don't let it break you And if you pray well no one's gonna save you Like everyone that you fear and everything you hold dear Even the book in your pocket You are the sun and the light you are the freedom I fight God will do nothing to stop it The origin is you You're the origin of love Love is a drug and you are my cigarette Love is addiction and you are my Nicorette Love is a drug, like chocolate, like cigarettes I'm feeling sick I've got to medicate myself Well if god is a priest and the devil a slut There's a reason for nothing Like every word that you preach Like every word that you teach With every rule that you breach You know the origin is you From the air I breathe to the love I need Only thing I know you're the origin of love From the god above to the one I love Only thing that's true the origin is you x 2 padre nostrum deus machismo padre deus deus machismo dio è madre deus machismo deus esso santo spirito or: dio sessus santo sprito a mix of Spanish, Italian and Latin but he did confirm it was, acoustic version: Padre deus, deus machismo Madre deus, deus machismo dio è madre deus machismo deus sesso santo spirito Like stupid Adam and Eve they found their love in a tree God didn't think they deserved it He taught them hate taught them pride Gave them a leaf made them hide Let's push their stories aside You know the origin is you From the air I breathe to the love I need Only thing I know is you're the origin of love From the god above to the one I love Only thing that's true the origin is you x 2 You're the origin of love Some love’s a pill and some love is a candy cane It tastes so sweet but leaves you feeling sick with pain Your love is air I breathe it in around me Don't know it's there but without it I'm drowning Love, you're the origin of love Thank god that you found me Thank god that you found me Love! Thank god you found me and the video I love your analysis! And the comparison of Mika to Erasure! They both have those uplifting melodies, but sometimes dark lyrics! Thanks for the Latin lyrics😁
sara09
MFCers, I'd need your help, please! Don't know if it's already been discussed in the past, there's a sentence I'd like to translate properly, but I can't figure out how. When Mika sings "Can't get enough, still hanging on me", what does the second sentence mean exactly?

CharlotteL
So in the Pride Instagram live I hosted on Friday we talked about different interpretations of songs and I said how much I love analyzing Mika songs. Some people seemed to be interested and asked me to share my thoughts on the specific song threads so here we go. I did warn you For me Origin Of Love is the ultimate love song and anthem of self-acceptance. Mika himself has described it as an “insane love song” that expresses a love so deep and crazy that it truly makes you feel like it can conquer anything. It basically tells the person it’s directed to: I love you so much that I am questioning my entire belief-system for you, and nothing can stop me from loving you, not even God himself: “God will do nothing to stop it”. It’s essentially about overcoming internalized homophobia and breaking free from the negative things you’ve been taught about yourself. It describes feeling wrong and trapped by your sexuality in the past and then consciously freeing yourself from all of that. Let me highlight a few lyrics that stand out to me: “Your guilty heart, don’t let it break you”: In earlier albums Mika has often used the words love and guilt in the same lines (for example in touches you). And now he’s saying that he will no longer let that guilt negatively affect him. “You are the freedom I fight”: He used to fight those feelings but now recognizes that acknowledging them is what’s gonna set him free. “Well if god is a priest and the devil a slut, that’s a reason for nothing”: Apparently being prudish is good and being sexual is bad but how is that an excuse for anything. This whole theme of having been taught that desire and sexuality are wrong and sinful is also expressed in the bridge (the part about Adam and Eve) but in the end he actively rejects this notion: “Let’s push their stories aside”. What I love about is that even though it’s a love song it’s not sweet or gentle. It’s energetic, euphoric and even angry. I think it really captures that feeling of struggling with your sexuality and having to make a conscious effort to unlearn all the hurtful things you’ve been made to believe about yourself. It’s empowering and hopeful and that’s why it’s my favorite song ❤️ 5
