Pop star Mika stars in 3 Italia and Sky-Fastweb campaigns

Tuesday 21 January 2014 | 11:13 CET | News

The Anglo-Lebanese pop star Mika finds himself in the unusual position of having been recruited to star in advertising campaigns run by rival operators. On the one hand, Mika is promoting 3 Italia's new All-In mobile tariffs. At the same time, he is currently appearing in TV advertisements for the Home Pack pay-TV and broadband package offered by Sky Italia and Fastweb. The companies have even cooperated to ensure that their respective on-air campaigns do not clash, with Sky allowing 3 Italia to broadcast exclusively on its own channels and 3 Italia refraining from advertising on the channels of state broadcaster Rai while the Sky-Fastweb campaign continues. However, 3 Italia has engaged the services of Mika for 12 months while the Sky-Fastweb campaign is due to end this month.

In the ad, there are other two actors: Teresa Mannino a comic actress, and Raoul Bova, very very famous in Italy for films and tv-movies. They have been playing many series of this kind of ads for several months. She always tries to fall in love with Raoul, but he don't want to.

They say:

Teresa: Tonight I feel myself like Princess Sissi ..

Raoul: Ehm...yes .. yes (he goes away)

Teresa: Raoul! Don't desappear!

(she looks for Raoul and she seems to see him at the piano, but is not him, he is another man with the same costume)

Teresa: Raoul! Oh you're soo good [playing the piano] ... oh, but you're Mika!

All: Raoul! Mika! Theresa! (making the presentations)

Teresa: two knights, two giga-internet!

Teresa: One for all!!

Raoul and Mika: All for Three (the phone company of the ad, is called "The Three")

Mondo 3

The script makes fun of his mistakes in italian 'cause people always go "aaaw" on them.

But he said he ates when people think he's cute when he does those mistakes, he wants to improve, not to be "aaaawwwed".

So I feel a kind of incomfortable for him, even if I suppose he's a grown up man enough to speak his mind, when he doesn't want to do something.

The poor man doesn't really know what to do with his hands though :aah:

AWWW

He´s still doing lots of side projects!!!!

:mf_rosetinted:

I bet he won´t do any other side project, cause he said he would release an album this year. I bet he will fly towards LA to start recording the new songs.

:mf_rosetinted:

On the other side, he overacts here as he did in Underwater. I know it´s good for his italian marketing team, and now that he has already won the italians hearts... WHAT ABOUT DOING MUSIC AGAIN?:fisch:

Oh my heart feels so heavy, seeing that he needs to use his time doing things like this. Okay, it is sensible to benefit the situation in Italy now, it's a rational thing to do and he is probably doing everything he can now to be able to do other things later and I'm looking forward to that. But still. Sigh. This is very different than posing for Hugo Boss or doing a beer ad.

I find his acting adorable though. Very Mika, he can't help it :wub2:

:huglove: Don't feel "heavy or sad" Nina! This is only some very small things in between, or as you express it: "benefit the situation in Italy now" :blush-anim-cl: I think it's funny - and very "mikaish" - he has always spoken like that, with his whole face and body, and using his hands a lot ...:teehee:

What a lovely ad! :blush-anim-cl:

Now, I can see it in all the italian channels.:thumb_yello:

In the ad you can hear the Mika's little mistake in italian language that here is becomig a sort of common expression. :naughty:

It is the classical mistake of a student that tries to improve the language.

Mika uses the english verb "to choose" in an "italian way", adapting the word to the italian verbs and to an italian sound. And the word becomes a strange mix of two languages, "choos-are".

It's funny and sweet for us, even if it has no sense. :teehee: But it's also the proof that he's really trying to learn the language. Seriously.

The choice of using this little mistake in the ad, does not mean to make fun of Mika. It is a sort of display of affection, almost a sort of adoption. :huglove:

Oops. I guess I'm guilty of that one. I don't understand when he makes mistakes in Italian, but when he asks interviewers and the like how to say a certain word in Italian, I think that's adorable. And I think people love him for how hard he tries.

I LOVE his outfit. What other man could pull that off?

What is the gist of the commercial? From what I gather he's randomly appeared this couple's apartment and he encourages them to get Sky TV. But what does he say at the end with the blender thingy?

Here's one way to look at his acting skills. If they're not that great, at least we know he isn't perfect at everything!:teehee:

But what does he say at the end with the blender thingy?

He says: ma dove va questo? But where do you put this? (referring to the blender)

The couple has just moved into a new house and is putting in order some objects from the boxes...and they are searchig for their records...Mika enters in the house and hears in the air the sound of the same song he has chosen during XF...but the couple doesn't know anything about XF because it has not Sky... so Mika encourages them to get Sky and a fast internet connection to see films and shows at the best speed and best price! :wink2:

Thanks! Between all of us and all our languages, we get things figured out!

I think Mika is amazing in this ad, but I feel uncomfortable watching it  For the first time I feel odd about his side project. This ad is not something of his level :fisch:

That's how I've felt for ages.

For me this felt different than the other things he has been doing. We all prefer him doing music, of course, and it's clear many fans even despise the concept of talent shows, but the way he did the Italian X Factor was demanding and only very rare if any other singers could have done a season of live television show in a foreign country (commenting on foreign culture), in foreign language as successfully as he did only in a few months notice. It was a challenge and he did well, there's no way to deny it. Ads like this are a consequence of it, if he needs the money it's sensible to use all the benefit Italy can give at the moment (would be stupid not to use it) and it could be even in his contract to promote Sky, who knows. But this must be more uncomfortable for him, in a different way than regular promo he does a lot, so I feel bad for him.

This ad is cool and fun! Grazie Marina:thumb_yello:

As I have a few Italian channels on my tv I will be looking for it. Hope to come across it sooner or later.

Fave moment of the ad: when he tells them come no. The way he says it is 100% Italian!! I'm really impressed :)
