Thanks a lot for posting all those pics and videos that are on different social media
Mika is surprising !

Reality is often more difficult to see than what we imagine

The idea that the MFC could do something is really good ! (even if I am very new in this family)

raffaellavicentiniOver the past two days, Mika visited Lebanon with UNHCR. He met with Syrian refugees, went to their houses, saw the desolate conditions in which they live. He listened to their stories, sang with them, ate what they cooked for him. And he also played with the children!
So nice to see these two little twins playing peekaboo with @mikainstagram at @unhcrlebanon reception center in Beirut this morning!

BBC News was live

We were live from a refugee reception centre in Beirut with BBCJamesLongman and new UNHCR supporter MIKA. Catch up here. #MyRefugeeStory

:) Thank you so much again Eriko,  for sharing this!  I've watched it all. It's so heartbreaking and touching, to get this report, from  the inside!   Even we know a lot about this refugees tragedy already, it makes a difference to get it this way! :(   MIKA & James are such a great team, to present the facts, the feelings and their own experiences, from the area.    I think this's the most important, and strongest, visit MIKA has ever done to a country, without any comparation - something he also says himself,  during the interview.  I've never seen him so serious and sad - and we know he's got good reasons... ;)

I'm extremely proud of MIKA,  because he did this, together with UNHCR and BBC News...

British singer Mika meets Syrian refugees in Lebanon

The Lebanese-born British singer Mika has returned to the nation of his birth with the UN Refugee Agency, the UNHCR.

Mika was born in Beirut but left as a child during the Lebanese civil war to come to Europe.

More than one million vulnerable refugees are living in camps in Lebanon, having been forced to flee their homes due to the ongoing conflict in Syria.

The BBC's James Longman travelled with Mika to meet some of those affected.

This photo totally melts my heart!!  Thanks for keeping us updated everyone posting! So many channels to follow it's difficult at times. The report this morning was great. He seems so genuinely touched by these people and their stories, must so powerful to experience everything in real life meeting people face to face, I can feel it even through his reports. I like this young journalist with him as well  :thumb_yello:

I've just seen the report on BBC News and thought it was very well put together.  Interesting to see the culmination of all the clips, reports, tweets etc we've seen over the last few days put into one short report.

I quote this picture because it's super-cute and heartwarming, but I'd like to say thanks to everyone collecting all the videos and stuff and posting them here. This UNHCR campaign is something we should all be really proud of.

This all means so much more to me than Mika having a Christmas #1 single. I'm so thrilled he's now a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN, as it's always been a dream of mine that he would be. With his multi cultural and multi national background, teamed with his phenomenal skills in languages, this has to be something he was born to do.

He's so much more than just a popstar. What he's doing is so worthwhile. I'm so proud of our own Good Guy.

Thanks a lot everybody for posting :)

Eriko, thanks for setting this thread up and keeping it updated -- as someone else said, it's hard to keep up with all the various social media they are using! :naughty:

One thing Mika's team has asked -- as we promote this we should use this link: http://rfg.ee/VHTx2

It redirects to the donation page about Mika on the UNHCR site. (I changed the link in the first post of this thread, but if you see it anywhere else, please use the link I've given instead.)

I've also been thinking about how we as the MFC can help with this effort.

With our anniversary coming it, it might be a good time to auction off a prize and donate the proceeds. :thumb_yello:

I have a couple prizes that might generate some interest here, and Mika's team have said they would be willing to give us something to auction off, as well.

For those of you who have been around MFC for a long time, you may remember how we auctioned off a few things for charity around the MFC's 5th anniversary to support London Air Ambulance. I'm thinking we may do something similar this time around -- perhaps instead of a straight auction we ask people to make a donation to be eligible for a chance to win the prize. I have to go back and review how we handled everything back then to refresh my memory, but I think this is something I'd like to do, if the rest of you are up for it, too. :original:

great idea Deb!!! :thumb_yello:

It is very important to help by sending some money but it is also important to be friendly with the refugees who arrive in our own countries in Europe or elsewhere. Unfortunately, it is not always the case :( and I hope that Mika's action will contribute to change point of view of people ... :) ...
