I must say I really enjoy hearing him do songs like this and sweet dreams etc

:thumb_yello: Hanne, I couldn't agree more!!  The Eurythmics,  with the brilliant singer Annie Lennox, was my fav. group during the whole -80ies!   :fisch:  You can surely imagine I nearly fainted, by happiness, when MIKA  gave us a burning hot version of "Missionary Man",  the first time I heard him live in Oslo, 07.11.07  :teehee:  For a long time this treasure, at least for me, was on Youtube, from his performance at Sentrum Scene, but now it's gone ;)   Anyway, this recording from Toronto is great as well... :wink2:

Thanks a lot Eriko, for your tidy collection of covers  - it's super!!

Joséphine Baker "J'ai deux amours"

(by Vincent Scotto and Geo Koger; performance by Josephine Baker and Adrien Lamy)

Lyrics

Français :france:

J’Ai Deux Amours

On dit qu’au delà des mers
Là-bas sous le ciel clair
Il existe une cité
Au séjour enchanté
Et sous les grands arbres noirs
Chaque soir

A mi-voix
Doucement je dis “emporte-moi!”

J’ai deux amours…

I Have Two Loves

It is said that above the seas,
Over there under the clear sky,
Exists a city, where the stay is enchanted,
And under the big black trees,
Every evening,
Towards it tend all my hopes.

I have two loves
My country and Paris.
By them always
Is my heart ravished.
My savannah* is beautiful,
But why deny that
what puts a spell on me is Paris,
Paris in its entirety.

Seeing it one day
Is my pretty dream.
I have two loves,
My country and Paris.

(Repeat)

My savannah is beautiful,
But why deny that
what puts a spell on me is Paris,
Paris in its entirety.
Seeing it one day
Is my pretty dream.
I have two loves,
My country and Paris.

When at the distant shore
I sometimes see a ship depart
To him I extend my arms
And heart beating with excitement,
Whisper softly, I say, “Take me!”

I have two loves…

"Le Cheval" Jacques Brel

Lyrics

T'as même voulu
Mas t'en as profité
Par amour pour toi
Je me suis déjumenté
Et depuis
Toutes les nuits
Dans ton lit
De satin blanc
Je regrette mon écurie
Mon écurie et ma jument
J'étais vraiment, vraiment bien plus heureux
Bien plus heureux avant
Quand j'étais cheval
Que tu te foutais Madame
La gueule par terre
Jolie madame
Quand tu forcais le cerf
Mais tu as voulu
Que j'apprenne les bonnes manières
Tu as voulu
Je me suis derrièrisé
Et depuis
Toutes les nuits
Quand nous dansons le tango
Je regrette mon écurie
Mon écurie et mon galop

J'étais vraiment, vraiment bien plus heureux
Bien plus heureux avant
Quand j'étais cheval
Que je te promenais
Madame, sur mon dos
Jolie madame, en forêt
De Fontainebleau
Mais tu as voulu
Que je sois ton banquier
Tu as même voulu
je me suis variété
Mon silence, mes sabots
Mon écurie, mon galop
Tu ne m'as laissé que mes dents
Et voilà pourquoi je cours, je cours
Je cours le monde en hennissant
Me voyant refuser l'amour
Par les femmes et par les juments
J'étais vraiment, vraiment bien plus heureux
Bien plus heureux avant
Quand j'étais cheval
Que je promenais, madame, votre landeau
Quand j'étais cheval
Et quand tu étais chameau

Translation in English :uk:

The horse

I was really, I was much happier
Much happier before
When I was a horse
When I pulled your carriage madam
Pretty Madam in the streets of Bordeaux
But you wanted
Me to be your lover
You even wanted
Me to leave my mare
I was only a horse, yes yes
But you took advantage of it
For love of you
I de-mare-ed myself
And since then
Every night
In your bed
Of white satin
I miss my stable
My stable and my mare

I was really, I was much happier
Much happier before
When I was a horse
When you fell Madame
Flat on your face
Pretty Madam
When you were stag hunting
But you wanted
Me to be learn good manners
You wanted
Me to walk on my hind legs
I was just a horse, yes yes
But you conned me eh
For love of you
I reared myself up
And since then
Every night
When we dance the tango
I miss my stable
My stable and my gallop

I was really, I was much happier
Much happier before
When I was a horse
When I carried you around
Madame, on my back
Pretty madam, in the forest
Of Fontainebleau
But you wanted
Me to be your banker
You even wanted
Me to take up singing
I was only a horse, yes yes
But you abused that
For love of you
I pop-music-ed myself
And since then
Every night
When I sing "Ne me quitte pas"
I miss my stable
And the silence of other times

And then, and then you left abruptly
With a zebra, a poorly striped zebra
The day, Madame, when I refused
To learn to ride on horseback for you
And you had taken my mare
My silence, my hooves
My stable, my gallop
You left me nothing but my teeth
And that's why now I run, I run
I run around the world whinnying
Seeing myself refused love
By women and by mares

I was really, I was much happier
Much happier before
When I was a horse
When I pulled your carriage Madame
When I was a horse

And when you were a cow

Io Che Non Vivo Senza TeIo Che Non Vivo Senza Te ( You Don't Have to Say You Love Me )

:italia: Original Italian version

"Io che non vivo (senza te)" — "I, who can't live (without you)" — was introduced at the 15th edition of the Sanremo Festival by Pino Donaggio — who had co-written the song with Vito Pallavicini — and his team partner Jody Miller:

the song got to the final at Sanremo and as recorded by Donaggio reached No.1 in Italy in March 1965.

"Io che non vivo (senza te)" would also be prominently featured on the soundtrack of the Luchino Visconti film Vaghe stelle dell'Orsa (aka Sandra), starring Claudia Cardinale, which was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival that September.

:uk:Dusty Springfield version

Released on 25 March 1966 in the U.K., the single release of Springfield's recording became a huge hit and remains one of the songs most identified with her. When Dusty died the song was featured on Now 42 as a tribute to her.

The song hit No.1 in the UK, and No.4 in the US.

:usa: Elvis Presley version

"You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" was recorded by Elvis Presley for his 1970 album release That's the Way It Is from which it was issued as the second single 6 October 1970.

The track had been recorded in the evening of 6 June 1970 in Studio B of RCA Studios (Nashville), being the third of seven songs recorded that night: the session's producer Felton Jarvis felt that the second take was good enough to serve as the master track but Presley insisted on a third and final take.[6] Reaching #11 on the Hot 100 in Billboard magazine, "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" afforded Presley a #1 hit on the Billboard Easy Listening chart the single reached #1, also reaching #56 on the Billboard C&W chart.[7] It became a gold record. A hit for Presley in both Australia (#7) and Canada (#6), "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" was twice a hit for Presley in the British Isles with its original release reaching #9 in the UK and #17 in Ireland, in which territories the track's 2007 re-release charted with respective peaks of #16 and #29.
