Recently there have been lots of questions about what the mod/admin team actually does - what things we look after in regard to MFC. And that's great! Really, we appreciate the questions. And if anyone has any further questions, let us know -- feel free to post in the "Ask the mod squad" thread so we can keep all the questions together. Keep in mind, however, that as much as we tried to cover everything, MFC is a dynamic community in the online world - things are always changing, often rather quickly, and our responsibilities are not limited to what we've stated here -- we never know when we might be called on to do or handle something we've never done before! What d…

This is the MFC history that I wrote for the MIKA birthday present project last year. I have some other things to add to it, so I'm going to keep the thread closed to comments for now. Give me a few hours... JULY 2009 The History of MikaFanClub.com Once upon a time, there was a young man named David Geere, who was a fan of a new pop singer called MIKA. David loved the new singer so much, he started an internet message board about him. And so, on 5 January 2007, MikaFanClub.com was born. Very quickly, both the singer and the message board grew in popularity. By the end of February 2007, the MFC (as it was fondly referred to) had nearly 2000 members posting…

The main purpose of this thread is for World Representatives to raise any issues relating to the role of the World Rep, or to post requests for help and information from other reps. News about new World Representatives can also be posted. However we welcome any comments and suggestions from anyone on the forum (just as long as you don't go too off-topic ) Just to remind everyone, these are the basic duties of a World Rep: * Welcome any new members from your country. * Provide the link to the specific thread for your country, if there is one. * Introduce the new member to other members from your country * Attempt to answer…

We're trying to determine the whereabouts of all the members of Mika Fan Club, and we need your help! When you register for the MFC, you are now required to include your location, but previously it was not a required field. Many of you long-time members may not have entered your country, or perhaps you added a "fantasy" location, like "In Mika World"... Unfortunately that doesn't help us when we're trying to figure out where all of our members are from! So we're asking you to do two things. 1) Take a minute and look at the poll included with this thread. Tick the box for the country you live in. Check only one box, please, and please just check the country yo…

It has come to our attention that there is a need for signature size limits. The results of the poll we had a few weeks ago seemed to verify this. We are aware that a signature is a way for people to express themselves more, but we are also certain that this can be done without disturbing someone else's reading pleasure. The new rules effective immediately are: 1. The total size of your signature can not exceed 600 pixels (width) X 300 pixels (height). This includes text! 2. Animated images (gifs) are allowed, but only 1 per signature and the file size should not exceed 1,5 MB. 3. Remember, links or images that aren't acceptable on the forum aren't all…

Ok ... man this is hard Right so I've been pushing and driving this beautiful place now for well over 3 years , and now it's time I took a step back. 2007 was a year of pushing hard to get MFC recognised and I really have'nt stopped since, the role requires huge effort and I think I'm drained of it all and need to take a backwards step. I do think MFC is a very different place to what it was in 2007/8,and I was suited to that area better in some ways. In this role you can't really step away from it,its now a monster..a monster I'm very very proud of, but stlll .. sometimes you wish for something and get it! So .. I've decided to step down from the admi…

Hey everybody! Just a little warning that we will be running a fairly big upgrade on the site later tonight. I plan to run the upgrade tonight and expect it will take a while, maybe several hours. During that time MFC will be offline, but we will try to keep everyone updated on our social media accounts, on Twitter and Facebook. When you log in tomorrow, you'll find that a number of enhancements have been made. Many of these won't change your daily usage of the forums as we don't do e-commerce here, or they are functions for moderators. But there will be some changes that you might notice: -- Improved search function …

Just for fun, and because it has been a while since we've done this, I added a few new smilies -- deleted a couple that I've never seen anyone use, too. So take a look around and see if you can spot them. I'll give you one to start off with

You all have probably seen Mika's recent Facebook post on bullying, but just in case you missed it, here it is: We can't really add anything to that -- obviously, we are so happy that Mika has made such a statement and will do whatever we can to make sure that the Mika Fan Club stays a safe and friendly environment for everyone. This forum is all about fans talking to each other, and we are so lucky that we have the chance to get to know people from literally all over the globe! We all share a common interest -- Mika and his music -- but the friendships and relationships that grow out of that interest can be really rewarding. Just ask anyone who h…

So, I have been hearing and reading some things around the 'net -- on Twitter and Facebook and here and there -- and it seems that some people feel that the MIKA Fan Club has become obsolete, or that it's nothing special and that there's no point to it any more. What do you think? In my opinion, it doesn't cost anything to be a member, so why not join? And there are certainly advantages to belonging -- occasional meet & greets with Mika, tickets and other giveaways... And as with anything in life, you get out of it what you put in. Those of us who have been around a while and contribute -- not monetarily, but contribute our time, our trip and g…

Attention MFCers! This coming year will be the big 1-0! 10 years of Mika Fan Club! Can you believe it? 5 JANUARY 2017 marks the actual anniversary date of when MikaFanClub.com was launched. Several of you have written to us about what, if anything we are going to do this year to celebrate the big occasion. Given how important this is, we've been giving it lots of thought. While it would be great to have a big celebration in January in London as we did at the 5-year mark, we think that will be problematic for a few reasons. First of all, many MFCers will have just traveled to Florence for Mika's concerts there, so they won't want to turn around and ma…

Hello fellow Mika Fan Club fans! I know you all have grown attached to this lovely purple and black website over the years but the time has come for us to move on. That's right, we have been diligently working behind the scenes to update our look. At the same time we've realized it's time to leave this broken, old, outdated vBulletin software and server behind. We've found a new host with new software that seems to meet our needs perfectly, and very soon we're hoping to migrate the site. How soon? NOT MIKASOON, we promise! How does this coming week sound to you? Well, that's the plan, at least. What does that mean to you? Well, firstly, it mea…

Over the past three years, many MFCers have had cameras at gigs and meetups, and have taken some really cool vids and made some great video blogs. The problem is, spread among everyone's different accounts, sometimes it's hard to keep track of them all. So, with 2010 shaping up to be quite a busy year in Mika land, we thought we'd start a community YouTube account that all MFCers can upload their vids to. One catch: we don't necessarily want just vids of Mika on stage. Rather, this is for vids of MFCers; hanging out at meetups, your video blogs, spending time in the queues, meeting Mika, after gigs, etc. We'll start uploading vids from 2010, but I've favourited …

It has been brought to our attention that a lot of members have experienced a negative change in the atmosphere on the MFC. Members feel they are being victimised, singled out or even bullied. Ofcourse this is reason for concern. The MFC has always prided itself in being a safe and friendly environment for Mika fans of all ages. We'd like to keep that positive atmosphere and in order to do that we need your help. If you see any bullying going on, inappropriate comments being made, people being singled out or when you feel like you're being treated unfairly for no reason we urge you to contact a member of the forum team via pm or by reporting the post. In order…

Hi all, As you may have noticed we have begun reorganizing the forums to make it easier to find and follow your favourite threads. We'll try to make it as painless as possible but please bear with us while we get the new structure in place and start to move threads into their new homes. When all is said and done it will look like something like this, with some minor tweaking as we go along. P = publicly visible (anyone can read) MO = members only (you have to be a member of MFC and logged into your account to read) MFC INFO Latest Announcements (P) Check in here regularly to get important announcements and other up-to-date info on the forum. …

Hey all! Just wanted to let you know that MFC now has accounts on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter. We've had the MySpace page as long as MFC has been around, which means a lot of you probably already have it on your friends list. Unfortunately, we lost access to it for a while as a result of all the server moves. But it's back! And now we have Facebook and Twitter accounts, too. Both pages will be used to update y'all in the event of technical problems with MFC, as well as any particularly interesting Mika news. Facebook link MySpace link Twitter link

ATTENTION MIKA FANS: Several of you have written to us asking about someone on Facebook or on Instagram pretending to be MIKA. Please know that this is NOT really Mika - he will not contact you privately in this way. Mika is not starting an account for his "best" fans, and he is NOT asking for money for you to join a private fan club. If someone saying that they are Mika contacts you like this, please take a screen shot of the message and send it to us here at Mika Fan Club. Please make your Mika fan friends aware of this, too! Be suspicious and cautious of anyone who asks you for your personal information or, worse, money! Mika Fan Club will not a…

MFC: Where Are You?! 1 2 3

Hola! Ciao! Salut! Hey there, how's it going? I have a favor to ask all of you MFCers. We're trying to get a better idea of our demographics here in the fan club -- that is, where everyone is from, age ranges, that sort of thing. I know that when you joined some of you may have left some sections of your registration blank, or maybe you put something funny in instead of the real info. Maybe you entered a fake birthday -- maybe you entered MIKA's Birthday! -- or maybe you listed your location as "Planet Earth". That's all OK, really. But if you don't mind, it would really be helpful if you could go back into your user profile and enter your *real* location. Y…

As you all have seen by now, our dear FREDDIESDOUBLE has decided to step down from acting as an admin on the MFC, after 3 1/2 amazing years. He is still, however, going to continue in his role as a moderator on the forum. I've just realized that there have been a few other recent changes on the MFC Admin/Mod Team that we have not formally announced. Back in May, our Spanish moderator, Queenie, decided that she needed to step down for personal reasons. And last month, our Australian mod, happikali, realized that she, too, was unable to continue as a moderator. Both of them were mods for several years, and the hard work and long hours they put in…

As we announced more than a week ago, The Mod Team has been thinking that with all the activity on the forums these days, we could use a few more helping hands. So we asked those of you with an interest in volunteering as junior moderators to submit your names. Thanks to everyone who expressed an interest! After long and careful consideration, we've decided on two new additions to the Mod/Admin Team. Please join me in welcoming mellody and mari62 as junior moderators for the Mika Fan Club! Both mellody and Mari have been around the MFC for, well, as long as most of can remember, so we're sure you'll recognize their names, and will feel free to go to them with an…
