Celebrate - First single radio listening! + Discussion & Lyrics

Recommended Posts

well, we decided for that time cause it's 30minutes before his second interview. I don't think we could make it later =/ anyways, I hope that #CelebrateWithMika trends for at least a few hours so maybe you can make it =)

Aha, I understand, but hopefully I will be able to participate later if you still keep doing it and #CelebrateWithMika trends :wink2:

Boy 1: How do you feel? It must be weird to listen to it for the first time?

Mika: yes...

Girl: you looked really anxious.

Mika:Yes but now I'm really happy.

Girl: great! We were all dancing!

Boy: it will be a summer hit but not this year. It won't be a hit.

Girl! It will be a hit in ten years!

Boy: What do you think? Your single is like a baby you've just delivered?

Mika: exactly!

Boy: Push, Sir, push! Push harder! the pain is almost over.

Mika: yes, now it's over. When I put off the headphone, I told to myself the single is released.

Boy: It's already possible to download it illegally, I think. *laughters*

Girl: this single will appeal to people. I really love it!

Boy: yes, it fits the summer spirit!

Boy: We get messages and people seem to like it. Loads of people ring to ask you questions.

Is "elle me dit" on this album too?

Mika: yes, it is. There are also 2 other songs in French.

Boy: sometimes you sing in French, sometimes in English... you're making us confused... *laughters*

Mika: No there will be 3 songs in French for the French version of my album. The other songs will be in English.

Boy: Do you like to sing in French and in English?

Mika: I do. It's very different. But it's harder for me to sing in French because I need more energy.

Girl: You need to work harder to find words maybe...

Mika: I work with a friend whose name is Doriand.

Pharrell doesn't have a big part in this song:
yet still it adds something.

Not as if he's just ey'ing like Timbaland always does.

This song doesn't have the instant appeal Make You Happy has for me. I'm sure it'll grow on me, but I think right now over here he needs that grab you right away song to get peoples attention again. Like Rachel said in an earlier post, it would be a great song for the opening ceremony for the Olympics, if he pushes it over here in the next couple of weeks. I think Pharrell has been completely underused, it's like he might as well not be on the track at all.

I really hope it grows on me, I don't like not feeling a Mika song, I hope he has picked the right song to launch the new album, I would have gone with Make You Happy, but I guess he has a game plan we don't know about yet.

Repetition is the key to a good pop song. It makes the listener remember the title of the song and you want that. You want it to be stuck in the listener's head. Katy Perry taught me, she should know:mf_rosetinted:

That does confuse me a bit, because it's hardly a whole new sound is it? :aah: He's hardly gone death metal or grime on this single....

It's just a continuation of his very poppy mainstream sound, updated a bit. Perhaps it's the updating that many don't like? But it's nothing radically different to his older stuff, IMHO.

Well i miss iMMa and Chrisse form that clip a bit -

Celebrate - well it's good but not totally knockin' me out .....

The guitars are SO Daft Punk ...... it is a bit short too i reckon

I don't tihnk it is that different either - from his other sounds - not as strong as Rain though - which should have been the first single on TBWKTM!( never WAG - that killed him here - esp the video:aah:)

i tihnk MYH is a better song too but maybe not what he wants to portray as his - what will be in the UK anyway a comeback - and i really hope he does - so much. This is a very crucial time for him in a mainstream way anyway :mikacool: not that fussed about Pharrell part but it seems to be the standard for a song now to have this feature bit - thing is Mika isn't standard - or is he??

mmhh

i'm happy to hear him again of course - i admire him tons but i'm not bowled over but it does make me feel happy to hear him - good luck Mika!

These french presenters seem to talk too much

I mean, they overlap each other and don´t even allow Mika to reply :aah:

yeah, that was also what i thought, just from reading the translation... they're more interviewing each other than mika! :aah:

thank you macboll for translating!!

Oh, yes, I mean it by reading the translation, I didn´t even bother myself by listening to the interview, I have no idea of French and it would have made me anxious and stuff...

Mika: he's a writer. A songwriter.

Boy: One of your friends is a writer!!

Girl: Cool!!!!!!!!!!

Boy: yuk... I've got friends who make porn.

Boy 2: There are helplines for people like you, who love that kind of literature.

Boy 1: I forgot when the no-literature day takes place...

Girl: such an event should be created.

Boy 1: Yes, like the no smoking day.

Boy2: The Americans are on the way to find a vaccine. No kidding.

Boy 1: your album will be released 17 September.

Mika: Thanks for telling me! I didn't know it. *laughters*

Girl: Do you know the title of your album?

Mika: The title is 'the origin of love'.

Boy: did you write the songs?

Mika: I did.

Boy: its theme must be love, with such a title. There will be love everywhere?

Mika: yes but the idea was to gather 11 love songs. A few months ago, in a magazine interview, I said that there would be 12 love songs and everybody said "love songs? Ballads?"

Girl: What do you mean? Naïve, sentimental songs? A bit silly?

Mika: Yes. But I do not agree.

I have to go... if somebody can go on with the translation (from 8'20 onwards)... otherwise I'll get back to you later on.

CORRECTED LYRICS:

I want the whole world to celebrate

Let's go

I wanna come home

To the only place I know

Where the trees I planted grow

I wanna come home

Once I get up I feel better

Then I pull myself together

I remember those two letters

It will be OK

Everyone says now or never

I say only if it's better

Be a night? like this forever

Will we know better

I want the whole world to celebrate

I want the whole world to celebrate

I want the whole world to celebrate

I want the whole world to celebrate

I'll be just fine

When I see you at the finish line

Doesn't matter if I take my time

I'm coming home

Once I get up I feel better

And I pull myself together

I remember those two letters

It will be OK

Everyone says now or never

I say only if it's better

Be a night? like this forever

Will we know better

I want the whole world to celebrate

I want the whole world to celebrate

I want the whole world to celebrate

I want the whole world to celebrate

I'm not mad at you at all

But I want the whole world to celebrate

Yeah

Mmmm

Right about now it's time for everybody to stand up

stand up

stand up

and have fun

'cause we just begun

Let's go

Once again if I feel better

Then I pull myself together

I remember those two letters

It will be OK

Everyone says now or never

I say only if it's better

Be a night? like this forever

I want the whole world to celebrate

I wanna go home

I wanna go home

I wanna go home

And celebrate

I'll get the whole world to celebrate

I want the whole world to celebrate

Thank you so much dear mama mod :huglove: You rock :thumb_yello:

That's because the interviewers talked more than he did. And even when he did talk, they did too. At the same time. :mikacool:

They were a bit obnoxious, I think. And the one presenter who had to

mock Grace Kelly every single time they played a bit of it...? UGH. :sneaky2:

I think Pharrell has been completely underused, it's like he might as well not be on the track at all.

I really hope it grows on me, I don't like not feeling a Mika song, I hope he has picked the right song to launch the new album, I would have gone with Make You Happy, but I guess he has a game plan we don't know about yet.

I think that's the point -- the song has the cachet of having Pharrell,

which will get a lot of non-Mika fans' attention, but there's not enough

Pharrell to make it sound unMika.

I hoped he'd release a song with a whole new sound to catch the ears of the DJs who would play it.

Well, the problem is Mika's last two albums DID have a whole new sound,

but by the second album it WASN'T catching the ears of DJs who would

play it. So I think they've gone in the direction of "let's sound more like

other songs that are out there in the hopes that some DJs will play it."

and do we know yet whether celebrate will be released as a single anywhere else than in france? maybe they're releasing it in france as a summer hit, and all other countries have to wait for a (different) single til september? :dunno:

Hmm, that's a good point. I hadn't considered that, but you could be

right.

This is what I'm wondering. Maybe this will not be the lead single in the UK. It's all very strange and a bit dangerous IMO. I really hope they know what they're doing because Mika has only one chance to make a comeback in the UK. If it flops it will take a miracle to maintain any interest and attention for the rest of the album.

I think the biggest advantage to this single is the timing of its release. We're

at the start of the summer -- I think that's partially why Elle Me Dit

succeeded. It was a great, catchy pop tune -- the kind of light, fun,

disposable pop that really seems to catch on in the summer. And I think

Celebrate has all the same elements going for it. I always felt that We Are

Golden would have done MUCH better if they had released it earlier in

the summer -- it was anthemic, and had a bit of defiance to it. It could

have been a song for blasting while you were at the pool or the beach, or

cruising around in your car with the windows open. By mid-August, when

WAG was released, summer was basically over, if not according to the

calendar, at least according to school/vacation schedules.

I love both songs so far and I really want a lot of success for him for this album. :crossed:

That goes without saying! I want him to get his ass to #1 again! :wub2:

It's kind of interesting when you listen to Make You Happy and Celebrate

back to back -- I was surprised at how well they hung together, they

felt like they belonged on the same album. I'm just too anxious to

hear the rest of it! :excite:

 Aww, thats really sad. :( But honestly, I'm kind of preparing myself for a long strain of Mika Negative to sweep the world for a bit, before people start adjusting to the new him.

Yep! Agree here. I think it was a sad and unnecessary move. Nice to see at least one thing about mika hasn't changed: he still jumps around and dances on stage like only mika would! :)

No problem, words are my business so I tend to obsess over the lyrics a

bit. :naughty: I just wish I could hear those few questionable phrases.

Every time I listen, I hear something different. I wish that youtube of song

live was a little clearer, but we'll get there. :thumb_yello:
