Watch the show last night... Still can't believe 3 judges saved The Wise. Their second performance truly sucked...

Didn't really like the dynamics between the judges. Morgan should learn to shut up and listen when somebody sings. Truly a lack of respect. At least he doesn't look like a clown anymore...

Lovely pics!

PS: seems like someone finally convinced Mika to wear longer pants... Good thing!

I agree- the pics are really beautiful :blush-anim-cl: Acc. to Voque art. MIKA wears taylor-made suits at XF now - must be the reason for this perfect fit ... :wub2:

The problem of talent shows, and this one in particular, is that of to address and satisfy the public overwhelmingly made up of teenage girls,13-14 year olds, very active in social media, who absolutely have no musical culture and are fans of what is more "trendy" and sponsored/publicized at the moment, for example here Fedez and One Direction. And record companies panders to them with much more commercial choices.Someone said that our greatest and most important singers-songwriters, not good-looking and with particular voices, but with so much heart, poetry, socially/politically engaged texts and a real personality, now they would have no chance, because the record companies would not invest on them.Unfortunately I agree.

About the judges, yes, their egos seems to be more important than the future of these guys. For some of them is really a unique opportunity.

In XF8, Morgan is Morgan, and he wants always to win with his usual strategies, from eight years.Fedez is a very ("furbo") sly/cunning, ambitious and aggressive guy, Victoria lets herself be influenced by Morgan, at least until now.

This is exactly what the detractors of X Factor and Mika's decision to take part in this show have been saying since day one. And all we have heard until now that is that X Factor is different and Italy is special and that these problems that are inherent and endemic in ALL TV talent shows by some miracle do not apply to this show.

Mika tries to be objective, and it's obvious that he was very disappointed with certain behaviors and comments of his colleagues, not so much toward him but to the competitors. He is trying to make courageous, risky, non-obvious and banal choices, respecting the characteristics of his team's competitors. Lucio Dalla's song was one of these and give Diluvio a chance with something very innovative and definitely not popular was the other.I hope he'll continue in this way.Emma and Mario are very good, but not obvious for this show, and the music market in Italy, especially now.

We have a saying in English "you can't fight city hall". This isn't the Mika show. He is at the mercy of the producers, the other judges and the Italian public. And the notion that these people are somehow different than the people who have these functions in other shows and other countries is delusional.

The other day I found some old MySpace messages someone had given me years ago. It was Mika's conversations with Greg Wells in 2006. He told Greg that he'd had a meeting with the head of Island Records and they were going to do market testing on Love Today and he wanted to slit his wrists. Now Mika is an active participant in these shows that not only do things that make artists want to slit their wrists but they do it in the most public and humiliating way possible.

At least he doesn't look like a clown anymore...

Yes the whole panel looks different and not like last year's freak show. Mika's butterfly suit is an asymmetrical fugly mess but his other suits have been quite nice.

One thing that's really impressed me are Mika's song choices! Love how they werent at all ordinary or predictable. On the contrary they were different and really fascinating! I believe that this is the most important thing! Regardless of what the other judges might have said/done or how the public voted the contestants of Mika's team had a chance to work with songs that allowed them to show emotions. They were given the opportunity to become un cuore che canta. With these songs they were able to present something interesting, to show their individual style and communicate feelings.

Mika's work at Xfactor is excellent and he should really be proud of it!!

If you're going to do a Stromae song, then at least keep it in French, otherwise the whole message will get lost in translation.

Maybe he was really good, I don't know. Haven't watched it. But I have a thing for Stromae so I doubt I will find the choice to translate a perfectly fine song to Italian a brave move:mf_rosetinted:.

But letting a girl sing Blurred Lines is cool.

On the one hand I agree with you, but not the other because even in such a situation he is trying to bring other things, of quality, as Louiza said:

Another important point is that these guys are doing experience, learning and studying 8 hours a day song interpretation, text analysis and performance stage with talented vocal coaches, producers, some of which are also songwriters and those of his team, with Mika, they have the opportunity to work with and learn from a serious and professional artist.

Yes, you are absolutely right: "you can't fight city hall" and this isn't the Mika show, but the important thing is that he isn't conform with them and he isn't complying with their rules, he is trying to make different, original and very risky, not popular choices. In fact, he was very disappointed and angry and he has made it clear.I like this.He is always him, even in there.

I know, maybe it's not much, but it's a start, a good thing. And if he manages to improve his guys as singers or artists, well, this is an excellent result. He isn't joking with them.

As a matter of curiosity about "you can't fight city hall" : we say in Italian "combattere contro i mulini a vento" = "fight a losing battle, tilting at windmills, beating a dead horse"(http://www.wordreference.com/iten/combattere%20contro%20i%20mulini%20a%20vento)

Yes, I know, it was a very risky choice, I agree with you.But that was the point: to turn the song with a completely rewritten text from this guy, a rapper, not a merely translation of it.A real novelty to be proposed. He writes good lyrics, writing is his thing, to sing less. His performance was certainly not perfect, partly because the fear and nervousness have influenced it (like those of almost any other, to be honest) and partly because the song was very difficult to rewrite in Italian. But he needed time in there to improve. He would have re-written all the other songs to perform in the live show, not simply covers.I think it was an interesting thing.

But letting a girl sing Blurred Lines is cool.

Yes, I totally agree. She is good and did a very ironic performance. :original:

too much photoshopped ... :aah:

yeah, he told exactly the same "looks like I'm 22" :biggrin2:

100% agree. I don't know why Mika likes to twist songs and force italian into them. :dunno:

Besides I hate all the useless rap parts in well-known songs, it seems like they try to make me bear with rap mixing it with some melody I already know and like. "Oh, I like this one! Wait, what's that ****.... oh, great, the guy will talk for a while, let's wait till he's done so that I can listen to some more song". Lame..

After watching the whole show I have to say it wouldn´t be different to me if The Wise were out, Diluvio and The Wise were both similar bad in my ears. Diluvio made me fall asleep and I didn´t recognize it was a Beatle song what The Wise were singing.

I really liked the Komunuits, I think it was very fresh and interesting to rap and beat box to Johann Sebastian Bach.

Emma, Mario and Lorenzo are clearly my favorites. The other guys .......

Finally I got to watch it,and imo the worst performance was the one of Vivian.....it's not the first time when she's saved by some wicked kind of luck, but this time she was totally out of tune. But at least she could learn to sing, she has a voice, while Diluvio.... :aah: I understand he's very good at writing lyrics, but in this case he should become a poet..... or maybe it's just me that I'm not into this rap thing too much. Anyway, many good contestants, really good! Mario is amazing,Emma,Ilaria,Lorenzo, even Camilla, all of them are talented and original :thumb_yello:

I honestly can't understand how Diluvio's lyrics can be considered good (of course I don't mean by you, since you're not a native Italian speaker :)). To me they just sounded really obvious, cheap and lame and... Well, bad. Emma, Mario and Lorenzo are the most talented, I think. I like the three of them also because of their songwriting skills, meaning they could potentially create something interesting out there in the Italian music scene. They all have a pretty defined music style which can appeal to different kinds of audience. Lorenzo reminds everyone of Ed Sheeran and Mario represents the traditional Italian singer songwriter, the lyricist, which has been and still is a hugely popular figure in the Italian music (Italians just can't resist that extreme "Italianity" in music and cinema). At the end of the day, though, to me the most appealing style is DEFINITELY Emma's. I hope Mika will let her show her true nature and display what she can do.

Anyway, this show is really too long
