  1. Mika's music a magical import thebatt.com - Texas By Amber Holubec Issue date: 4/30/07 Section: Aggielife Just like the spiraling intro in his single "Love Today" music video, listeners are instantly hypnotized and captivated by the "doom da da di da di's" and power-pop melody that gives an extra spring to their step in pop newcomer Mika's new song, "Love Me." This London-based sensation not only has a higher pitched voice than Justin Timberlake, but can also pull off a unique fashion style, looking as if he ravaged through one of Elton John's closets. Let's face it, not many of us can accomplish either of these - making him instantly intriguing. Releasing his first album "Life in Cartoon Motion" in March, Mika is already getting a sweet taste of celebrity life, topping charts worldwide and reaching platinum status. His third single "Love Today" - debuting this week - is causing quite a commotion and was picked up by MTV for the network's video lineup. Coming out just in time for summer, "Love Today" is the perfect record to be spinning on a drive to the beach. Mika doesn't hold back his five-octave vocal range talent in any of his songs, especially "Love Today." Cramming upbeat electronica beats, playful lyrics and insanely powerful harmonies in one song exhibits Mika's musical enthusiasm and originality. Expressing thoughts over one's sexual orientation, "Billy Brown" intertwines calming brass combinations and a fluid melody with comforting lyrics: "Brown...Oh Billy Brown/Don't let the stars get you down/Don't let the waves let you drown." Continuing with the ecstasy-filled ambiance Mika creates, "The Only Lonely Love" allows listeners to unwind and surprises them with quirky yet refreshing elements. Though Mika dances slightly worse than Beck, as a musician he unmistakably belongs in the one-name-only category with the other epic artists. Anyone will fall in love with Mika's unusual but addictive pop musical identity, and all because he has something to say. In his own words, "It's easier to tell the truth in a song, plus people are less pissed off than if you were to say it to their face."
  2. I was absolutely the first in my group!... I even converted my sister and boyfriend!!...... They didn't start to really like him until we had been to the BBC2 filming for the Culture Show back in January... All my friends know I am a Mika obsessive... its starting to rub off on some..

  8. Prices average from £25 upwards...you can do a seach for Leg Avenue on Ebay plenty on there! They are great for inspiration.. my sister and i are always looking for inspiration at halloween time... she bought the 'robin' costume, but once we got it we realised that it would have been sooo easy to make ourselves!! We've now found some classic black and red corsets from New Look (Only £10) to use for future costumes!! here is a pic of me as a gothic batgirl last year.. the top is from a New Look (high st shop) and the skirt is handmade from eBay... Wings were made by my sis hehe.. Ooo maybe we should start a 'Show us your best costume' thread!?

  14. I went to a club in canada while on holiday and was having such a great time!! It wasnt until halfway throught that I realised that the main reason was because smoking was not allowed inside!! It was a weird but great experience!! I do have strong feelings about the subject for very personal reasons, but I'm not about to start preaching... because all smokers know of the health implications etc. and they make theor own choices.. and they are happy with that I believe that everyone has a right to their choice of lifestyle! Smokers or non!.. I put my hand up and admit that I am sometimes a social smoker.. only when very very very drunk and I only have a few puffs before I remember that I dont need it and actually don't like it too much!! The great smoking debate will always be a big one!
  15. I can't wait for the smoking ban in London to come into effect..in July.... sorry smokers...nothing personal! The thing I hate most about going out on a night out to a club or gig is coming home smelling like an ashtray!.. its in my clothes, hair and skin.. errgh!! Everyone has their vices.. and i don't have a problem as long as it doesnt effect me.... I just make sure I am not downwind from a smoker where I can..! As for Mika... I don't think he smokes
  16. I just watched it... sooooo funny!! Brilliant... !! ROXERCISE!!!
  17. Yaaaaayyy my flashing hearts arrived this morning!!... only got 6 for the time being.. but may have to get more for somerset house..... Still need to work on an outfit.. looks like I will be dressing up on my own as the peeps that are coming with me are not hardcore Mika fans.. (they still like him) and not MFCers. They keep rolling their eyes at me when i talk about this place and Mika Only you guys understand!!! *hugs all round*

  23. watch clips from lprevious weeks show here!!! Oooo.. also found this!! getting confused as to what time the uncut version is on.. but it says at the bottom of this press release! Mr and Mrs Dustin Hoffman talk to Graham Norton Tonight Graham Norton plays host to Mr and Mrs Dustin Hoffman, making a rare TV appearance together in this week's The Graham Norton Show on BBC Two. Oscar-winning Hollywood star Dustin Hoffman, married to wife Lisa for 27 years, jokes about the secret of their marital success: "The only way a relationship can exist successfully is if on some fundamental level the man is scared ****less of his wife!" Lisa talks about the reality of living with a movie star: "If Dustin's working in a movie you get to live through the whole experience together. I loved it when he was doing Tootsie. I really missed Dorothy ... she would come home from work and I had a friend!" And Dustin reveals that his worst habit is "farting in bed, she (Lisa) calls it microscopic ****." Hoffman also gives his views on young movie stars who don't appreciate their public: "Nothing's changed since I first started studying in 1958, only 10% of actors work. The 10% that act aren't necessarily the best. To be one of the lucky 10% and have stardom thrust on you, I don't understand those who act that way." About his own past disillusion with the profession: "I said I'm not going to do this any more. Two years went by, and Lisa said go back to work, so I did. I used to be so careful – I had the luxury of being careful – Lisa said don't worry about anything, you love to act, just do it." And why he wouldn't accept a star on the Hall of Fame: "It's a really dirty street, Hollywood Boulevard, I always said no. There are people getting stars now who aren't really stars. Now if I said yes I'd be next to Donald Trump." And there's music and chat with Mika, performing Love Today live in the studio. The Graham Norton Show is a So Television production for BBC Two. The Graham Norton Show, 10.00pm, Thursday 26 April 2007, BBC Two (extended repeat, Sunday, 11.30pm)
