  1. I just searched for Mika Philadelphia cityjet. Since it is not my video, I wasn't sure if it is ok to provide a direct link. Enjoy!
  2. Cityjet has some great footage from Sunday on youtube. The We are Golden footage is fantastic. Mika really did seem overwhelmed by the crowd. Near the end of the song, some of the crowd response is captured. Of course, there is absolutely nothing like being there!
  3. I could definitely see your microphones from the balcony! It really produced a great effect. I wish I could have taken pictures so I could have captured it, but was afraid my camera would be taken since security in the past at EF has been so harsh.
  4. This is a great video, Holly. Thanks for sharing it! (Gotta love the pole...) We didn't get to the line until almost 6:30. I'm glad my husband likes Mika and wants to come with me, but I could never get him to come much earlier than that to wait in a line in the cold. As it is, after standing with me in line for ten minutes and telling me how old (no, not cold!) he felt, he walked over to the bar right next to the venue to watch the Phillies game until 7 when the doors were supposed to open.
  5. Speaking of hearing things... I hear a dog barking ("ruff") at intervals starting around 2:09
  6. Hi Holly,

Sorry, I am just seeing your message now. I am home from work sick with the flu today and was catching up with MFC when I saw your message...

Have you recovered from the show yet? I still can't believe that I was there. I loved reading your waiting-in-line adventures. Thank you so much for sharing that! I took the train to NYC from Philly and then met my friend after her work was over so I didn't get to start waiting in line until about 8pm. I think I was probably about seven people back from the stage. I took a couple of pictures, but feel ridiculous posting them since most of them include the back of some guys' heads and my camera isn't that great anyway. Being 5'4" doesn't help in GA situations... After reading your reports, I am so happy to see that you got a great spot to enjoy the show---you certainly earned that one!

    Talk to you soon,

    Tanya

  8. I just came back from Montreal where they were promoting the upcoming Montreal Jazz Festival. Maybe I am just suffering from too much Mika-on-the-mind, but I found the artwork to be a bit "DaWack-inspired" (although, I wouldn't necessarily call it plagiarism)... http://www.montrealjazzfest.com/Fijm2008/images/fonds_ecrans/fond_ecran_fijm1024x768.jpg
  9. I love this Goldspot song and video for so many reasons: . Even though they are from the US, it is not easy to find their music here.
  10. They played "Lollipop" on Aliens in America. I think I may be the only person who watches this show?
  11. Welcome! If you are too old, then so am I (and a lot of other people on here)! As long as your interest is Mika then this is the place for you... I don't post often, but I really like this fan club and all of the interesting people here from all over the world that share a common love of Mika and his music. James Herbert? I'll have to go look him up...
  12. Thanks for the video, carrinevie! What is his favorite tea? I couldn't quite catch it... Something Red Label? Thanks!
  13. Thank you so much, Christine! I've been waiting for that scream. Now I can go off to work in peace...
  14. Not that this answers your question about this year's Brit awards, but I noticed that BBC America aired the 2007 awards last April-- http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/220/index.jsp ! If this turns out to be the case again this year, I hope we can at least get the highlights from youtube because I can't wait that long!
  15. Thank you so much for sharing this! After watching that performance I am just speechless... Ok, I'm going to go and watch it again for the fifth time...
  16. Great idea for a thread! Here's some of my exercise music: Yaz (Goodbye '70's, Don't Go, Didn't I Bring Your Love Down); Blondie (Heart of Glass); Gloria Gaynor (I Will Survive); The Vapors (Turning Japanese); Violent Femmes (Blister in the Sun); Men Without Hats (Safety Hats); Lipps, Inc (Funkytown); Boney M (Ma Baker, Daddy Cool, Brown Girl in the Ring, Rasputin, Sunny); Stereo Total (Comme un garcon); Saint Eteinne (He's on the phone); 4 Non-Blondes (What's Up Dance Mix) and...MIKA, of course. I find I workout harder whenever a MIKA song comes around...Love Today, Ring Ring, Lollipop, Relax, Big Girl, and Grace Kelly. Wow, 37 pounds! You are inspirational, David...
  17. Thanks for all of the great reviews posted so far! I'm looking forward to reading more after I get back from work.. Deb, I didn't realize they play the same pre-show music at all of the venues. For some reason I thought, it was chosen by each venue, but these were the same songs played in Philly, too. I must admit that when I heard Standing in the Way of Control and Sweet Dreams I started to suspect that Mika may have chosen the music. They also played Yaz and Fleetwood Mac (The exact songs are escaping me though, but my ears perked up since I love Yaz.) Anyway, to answer your original question, yes, this music was different than what I remember from the last time I saw him in the summer at the Nokia in NYC---that mix was even more eclectic and included Love Train.
  18. If you can vote, please don't forget to vote before you wait in line tomorrow! Have a terrific time at the show!
  19. Hi Lucy, I'm sorry that I did not get a chance to meet you, but I do recall seeing someone holding up the doll in the crowd so I think I saw your doll! BTW, did your husband get to do anything fun while he was here? [i'm sorry, I love this city (usually) and I want everyone else to, also!] I am really regretting not getting tickets to go up for the NYC show tomorrow. Have a great time and be sure to bring back a lot of good memories!
  20. When we were waiting in line, a security guard told us that he had never seen so many people line up outside before the show for someone he had never even heard of before! It was wonderful to stand just inches away and hear him explain his thoughts about the story. To hear him talk like that in that proximity, you realize, my God, he IS human, yet there is something exceptional about him that exudes at these moments as well. I wish I could have videotaped that for posterity. I felt the same thing! After the show, my friend who came with us asked how this compared to Nokia and I told him I thought this show was even better than Nokia, except I thought Lollipop was more exuberant at Nokia. I think you are right that he must have been tired after giving that performance. It was very hard to act like it was just another day today, wasn't it? The dreary rain that we had here today couldn't even get me down. Can't wait to relive the night! mgpm, I am so happy I had the chance to meet you and your daughter! Glad you had a safe trip home. BTW, sorry I kept telling you the manager's name was Jerry; I think it is John? Hi Jack! I am the person you met when you were with mgpm in the venue---I was wearing my glasses. I remember when you introduced yourself to me and said, "I'm Jack," I couldn't believe I was actually meeting THE Jack. By the way, you get my vote for best dressed, too. Of course, there was the man with the glittery silver hat that sparkled like a disco ball, but he did not even come close!
  21. You're welcome! Unfortunately, I took the no camera policy seriously and did not bring my digital, just a disposable in case it was confiscated. Don't fret, the place turned out not to be very strict about the cameras/cell phones at all and I saw a lot of people taking pictures even video, I think, so hopefully that will appear soon. Strangely enough, while they were not strict about cameras, they did frisk everyone at the doors and security made my husband throw away his ink pen and his eyedrops before they would allow him to enter! They also took away a basket of lollipops from someone.
  22. After the concert/meeting, we shared a cab with A.Clay and her son-in-law and dropped them off at a restaurant that is open late. I think they are planning to stay in Philly for a day or two so unless she finds a computer, you may have to wait. On the other hand, she is resourceful so I would not be surprised if she popped in tonight!
  23. It was an amazing show. I saw Mika in NYC at the Nokia in June and I think I liked this show even better if that is possible. I'm not good at estimating how many people were there, but it looked like it was sold out since the place was packed. Everyone was so into the concert---singing the words, waving and dancing around. I was so proud of my Philly people (and adopted Philly people) tonight! I think we made him feel very welcomed! When he spoke to the Philly crowd early on, he told us that he had a confession which I did not quite hear--- I believe it was something like he was a little worried about coming to the States and starting this tour, but seeing the turnout in Philly made him feel good?---Someone else with better hearing should verify or correct this! I can't remember the order of all of the songs, but the unreleased stuff he played was Holy Johnny and Do You Love Me. Luke played the banjo during Holy Johnny! He's so talented... Mika and Saranyde also did Missionary Man. I noticed that Mikey and Martin played a lot more riffs between songs than before---I liked that---and Mika called for a lot more audience participation where he would turn the mike towards the crowd to fill-in a word or repeat a scat he just finished. I had a chance to meet mgpm, A. Clay and her son-in-law, Jack(very quickly---she's unmasked and lovely). MFCers are such nice people! I saw Cynthia Mulat very briefly when we were waiting for Mika outside, but did not have a chance to say hi because I was waiting to have a chance to say hello to Mika. So before Mika came out we were strictly told that he would just leave the building and we could just say hi---no autographs or pictures. When he came out, he slowed down and a few people did get autographs and spoke with him...I'll let them tell you their stories themselves (A. Clay has a great story, but I'll leave you in suspense so she can have the chance to do it justice!)...but I was happy enough that I was able to put my hand out from the back of several people and he shook it!
  24. That sounds nice! Wish I had an artistic bone in my body... Hope to get a chance to meet you... I don't know what I'll be wearing, but you could probably id me because I'll be one of the "older" people in the audience (if my NYC experience last June is any indication)---sporting a few unruly white hairs which a dimly lit club just might hide.
  25. I read the tidbit below in the Philadelphia Weekly on the subway to work today so thought I would add it to dcdeb's collection... I wonder if he and his band are here yet? Could we be breathing the same air already? I hope they are enjoying a delicious meal and relaxing at one of Philly's great restaurants... Mika Thurs., Jan. 31, 8:30pm. $25. With Midway State. Electric Factory, 421 N. Seventh St. 215.627.1332. http://www.livenation.com The sprightly cover art for Life in Cartoon Motion pretty much announces the aural aesthetic inside: It’s as if Rainbrow Brite vomited after a breakfast of Skittles, Lucky Charms and a hit of XTC. Brimming with “Up With People” chirpiness and squirming to wriggle out that octave-scaling falsetto, Mika arrives at your doorstep like a gay Jehovah’s Witness peddling power pop. (And, by the way, “Happy Ending” would not sound of place on gospel radio.) Yes, he’s vocally indistinguishable from Freddie Mercury; yes, his gushy camp is essentially biting the Scissor Sisters. But if you can’t get up for this faaabulous self-affirmation, you’ve got a cold and vile heart. (Michael Serazio)
