1. :huglove: Thank you very much Queeny :huglove:

Here is his presentation of his collection

Illustration elements and lyrics! That sounds fascinating! Very much looking forward to seeing the collection:original:

The thing is...I've heard so much griping about doing all these other things aside from music. But when I see these videos and he goes on to talk about his stuff, I just don't see how anyone can reduce his involvement to pure monetary gain. When I see him talking in this video, I see him drawing on a couple different things that make sense. Yes, he uses the word "fashion" but to me, what he's saying is making clothes. Designing clothes. Which was a HUGE part of his growing up. It only makes sense to me he'd want to try it artistically. Although we see and love Mika as a musician, I think that the truth is that Mika is an artist with a vision looking for outlets for it and that's a concept that is a lot less specific.

He already uses so many of these elements to enhance his musical work. Theatrics and art are a large part of the past shows. I don't think we've ever seen a behind the scenes video that hasn't involved very careful selection of what every person on stage wears. He already dabbles in so many other worlds than music. Why do we have to be so unwelcoming of him giving a tad more focus to other things that interest him? It's gotta be fear, really. But it's not like he's giving up music. I enjoy his branching out with some of these other things and I can't wait to see the clothes.

    Very well said, totally agree:thumb_yello:

  2.

Basically they're saying that Mika prepared a " fusion " version of relax with the Lebanese pop star Karol Sakr. And that during the show Mika will be accompanied by his mother and that they'll talk about their relationship with the Orient in general and Lebanon in particular.

That sounds really interesting! Cant wait to watch this:thumb_yello:

  3. Lovely interview!

"J'ai prévu un autre album, j'ai plusieurs projets. Je veux m'installer dans un théâtre pendant 2 semaines et créer une installation, un show en accoustique. Mon promoteur a super peur de le faire, car il sait que je vais y perdre de l'argent, mais je veux faire ça avec 600 personnes, et c'est tout, je veux me mettre avec des metteurs en scène, des musiciens, enfermés dans un théâtre"

    That sounds super exciting:wub2::wub2:

Great vid!! Thanks for posting Chris:thumb_yello:

It has been one of the best experiences of my life! Incredible!

I went to Barcelona without hope, I mean, I only knew we were going to record a song and the spot, but we were not sure if Mika was going to be there or not.

The venue was perfect, I loved it. Everything was so relaxing, with good music, beers, food...

We were sunbathing a bit when two girls came to me and my friends and asked us to do an interview about this spot because they knew we were big fans. We said yes, of course! :aah: Still waiting for that video!

They told us it was going to be a surprise. No one should have known that Mika was going to be there or that it was going to be an ad related to him, but the San Miguel facebook page "messed it up" a little bit... In fact, they told us that Mika should have tweeted the news the same day, as a big surprise, but... :teehee:

Thanks to those journalists, me and my friend Patricia were interviewed again, but this time for two very famous Spanish channels! :fisch:

Anyway, a few minutes later, we started to practice the song without Mika. It was really fun! I remember they played Love Today and Grace Kelly and me and my friends started dancing like crazy (and then when Mika appeared, he said he watched us from his window :mf_rosetinted:)

He was very very charming. So lovely to see how he took pics with almost everybody there.

We took this one with him

    attachment.php?attachmentid=9180&stc=1&d=1366731191

and I also took this one before:

    BIi63nRCYAAtPz-.jpg:large

As a funny fact, I remember a girl who started screaming "HE TOUCHED ME!!!! HE TOUCHED ME!!!!!!! I'M FANGIRLING" after she took a pic with Mika :aah:

The song is amazing :wub2: Everybody was having a blast! It sounded a little bit like Popular to me, some parts... but let's see the final version!

    Lovely report, thanks for sharing!

Cant wait to hear the song!!!

The song "Everybody (Live Your Life)" was apparently written by MIKA in march 2011, with Wayne Hector and Steve Robson, at the Northern Sky Studios.

I think it was a song for The Origin Of Love album. But maybe he would keep it for a forthcoming single.

    "17 March 2011 LA, Paris & more

I've been in recording tracks for MIKA and James Morrison at Northern Sky Studios with producer Steve Robson. Fantastic songs."

    Thanks for the info:thumb_yello:

  5. We had to sing and jump while they filmed. Mika was like our teacher. He showed how to sing the chorus and jump at the appropriate time. It took less than an hour. The chorus is in spanish.

    "SOMOS CIUDADANOS DEL MUNDO, ASI

YO SIEMPRE A TU LADO Y TÚ JUNTO A MI

EL MUNDO ESTÁ EN TUS MANOS, NO LO SABES YA

    COMO UN DIAMANTE SIEMPRE BRILLARA"

We waited for him since 6 pm and he appeared at half past 7. When filming was over he took pics with everybody. He was sweet, lovely and patient as always. I had the chance to talk a lot with him. He told me, you talk a lot, hahahah, isn't he lovely? :wub2: I took three pics with him and signed me the chorus of the song. Asked to him about an acoustic tour in Europe, about Salamanca and the canceled gig in Marseille.

I had the chance tot talk with his mom. As all of you know Joanie is a extraordinary, a humble and lovely woman. She recognize me at the moment because we met in an airport months ago. Talked a lot too.

Well, it was a perfect day :wub2::wub2:

Lovely report! Very happy for you Alba!

Cant wait to listen to the song!!!

  6. So is it official that he's going to be at XFactor? If yes then it'll be fantastic to watch it. I loved his participation in last year's show! Also if I remember correctly he had said that he had a great time being there. So it'll be wonderful to have something similar this year too!

But even if we hadnt already seen how much fun the Italian XFactor is or if for some reason I had doubts about him doing that I'd still respect his decisions. I'm certain he knows what's best for him, his music and his career.

One more thing I'd like to point out is that I'm sure he hasnt changed. I trust him and will continue to support him more than ever.

  7. Thanks everyone for your report, pics and especially for the videos!!

    Such amazingly beautiful performances:wub2:

At the end of the gig, he took time for everybody there. I spoke to him in french and talked about the DC gig and the Montreal one. I told him that i love the new song "Ma jeunesse" and he said that he was happy about this and that he plans to record it!

Thats excellent news!! I was hoping to hear something along those lines, love this song so much:wub2:

    Thanks for your lovely report!!

  8. This sounds like yet another special gig!! Hope we get to find lots of vids, especially of the performances without a mic.

Also what a cool surprise that Dita was the special guest!

    Delirium, delirium!

I'm laying on this couch and feeling my legs ache from hours of standing and shivering. This is pure physical exhaustion, but the best thing is that it does not matter, at all.

So I've never "hard-core" queue-d before--it's always been sunny and pleasant, no matter the length. Today in Brooklyn when we arrive at the venue around 2pm, it was rainy, windy and bitingly cold. The levels of rain and wind oscillated as the wait continued but, let's just say, it was completely miserable and there were times when I almost thought to myself, "is this going to be worth it?"

And, god, what a stupid question that was. IT WAS SO ****ING WORTH IT

After funnelling the queue through a barrier maze and into the basement bar (ha, yes we were scared) they allowed us into the venue. I was in front, center, basically looking up Mika's nose (but unfortunately unable to see him when seated at the piano). We've pretty much established that after Max and Curtis come on it's all the same...like, no way they're DJing anything up there other than pressing "play" :mf_rosetinted: Ha, and the music before the show is also the same. And then the lights go off........

Mika was ebullient. I have never seen him with this much energy, charisma or spontaneity. Indy and I were in front in our cute dresses and crowns--and as Mika (clad in the green Jools Holland suit) said, "I dressed up for you guys tonight...just like the tiara girls in the front" --ok, it wasn't that, but you get the sentiment :wub2:

CAN I JUST CUT TO THE CHASE HERE: HE DID HAPPY ENDING AND LOLA WITHOUT A MIC AND, LET ME, I, THERE'S NO WAY TO EXPRESS how lucky I felt, how undeserving, how utterly COMPLETED it is to be standing directly below your favorite singer and having his words spill over you and engulf you. It was like being Mika's bedroom floor--the honesty which is afforded by liberation from a microphone. His manner of singing is different, he changed the lyrics more freely and let certain notes crescendo unexpectedly and beautifully. Yes, I was crying.

(I just want to articulate once more how wonderful a thing it is to be a Mika fan, especially a Mika fan who gets to experience this tour, especially seeing this show three times. The intimacy of being serenaded without a microphone, without inhibition, is an incomparable event, and how GRATEFUL I AM that he shares this side of his talent with us cannot be expressed!)

Also, sorry, because I know this has got to be hard to read if you can't experience the micles singing. But, it leaves you speechless and covered in tears. God,

Other highlights: Dita's intro to Big Girl was really interesting, especially from the front row...how to react to a strip tease?? But the crowd absolutely ate it up!

He played Make You Happy (by request) near the end of the set, and had Indy look up lyrics on her phone, which coincidentally didn't have service. He was singing and harassing her with-eyes to hurry-the-****-up and find words for him, but when a girl in the 2nd row handed him her phone with the lyrics pulled up it was clear he didn't really need them :naughty:

Mika was explaining about his Russian grandmother, and then how inappropriate it was to segue into "Love You When I'm Drunk," haha

He came out and signed as he exited the venue. My sister got her Oakland picture signed, and I didn't get to talk to him but he was clearly in a good mood, all night too

The vibe of it, even though it wasn't a synagogue, was really incredible. He had us eating out of his hand on the acapella performances. I mean, imagine this fairly spacey hall with balconies, completely silent and standing in awe.

Ok I'm clearly really exhausted and no longer coherent, but hopefully someone can elucidate the events of tonight more clearly than I. Indy and I are getting up in a couple hours to catch a bus to Boston, and I cannot say enough how grateful I am to be doing this all again tomorrow

    It's always worth it!!!

    GOOD NIGHT!!!

Awesome!! Love reading your reports, always so full of enthusiasm. Enjoy Boston!

    Who: Mika

    Where: The Opera House

    When: April 5, 2013

Musical Style: Mika is an internationally acclaimed British singer-songwriter. If you don’t know who he is, well then…you’ve been missing out. His unique sound is remarkably undated and would make as much sense in twenty years as it would have made in the 1920’s. We hesitate to put a label on his very original musical style. Natural talent and years of classical training have shaped Mika into a real musician, one that has a vocal range of five octaves and an organic and seamless connection to his piano.

Stage Persona: Clad in a theatrical blue velvet jacket and a boater hat that came on just at the right moment, Mika is a natural entertainer who understands the relationship between an artist and his audience consists of teasing and pleasing. The stage of The Opera House in Toronto was the perfect venue to showcase Mika’s cabaret voice that at times brought Freddie Mercury’s vocal energy to mind. There was a Tim Burton feel to the decorum that was simple to achieve with three sets of oil lamp chandeliers and highly effective in setting the mood. We could have been anyplace, anytime, perhaps somewhere underground, in a speakeasy during the Prohibition, or, as Mika suggested while performing “The Origin of Love” (the title song of his new album), in Thailand, in the 1950’s. If the gift of a complete artist is the ability to transpose his audience and set imagination wild, well, then Mika has this gift by leaps and bounds.

The Crowd: There was an eclectic mix of stylish and good looking young fans, many from faraway places such as France and Venezuela. Mika played with the audience in between songs, had them sing along for “Elle M’a Dit”, “Happy Ending” and “Underwater” and got them to snap their fingers during “Lollipop”. Overall, the audience was enthusiastic and supportive.

Highlight of the Show: There were many high points during Mika’s show, our personal favourite being the three people on a piano interlude during “The Tap Dancing Song” an exuberant piece he wrote to honour his brief flirtation with tap dancing before getting kicked out for being “a **** dancer”. Good joke, but we don’t believe you, Mika! Your casual but charming moves on stage indicate otherwise.

Comments: With his joyous energy and palpable sincerity, Mika is one of the most enjoyable musical experiences we have had. We look forward to the rest of this young musician’s career. It will, no doubt, be epic.

Great review and pics, thanks for posting Eriko!

"We look forward to the rest of this young musician’s career. It will, no doubt, be epic". This phrase is so true!

  10. What a brilliant performance of Popular! And what a lovely surprise to invite Kristin Chenoweth on stage with him!

Origin was fantastic. After playing the song, Mika sked them to make it completely dark, and everyone closed their eyes. He said, “this time, I want you so scream “Love, love, love” like you’re the last person on earth, like it’s the only way you can find another living being” ... and when he counted us off the house went WILD.

Enjoyed reading your report very much, so detailed and full of emotions! Must have been a special gig!

I quoted my favorite part of your report. How amazing this must have been, hope we get to see a video of it. Love the way he described how he wanted you to sing the "love, love, love" part.
