  1. I don't know about that - it seemed he was on his way there in 2008 when he won the prestigious Ivor Novello Songwriter of the Year award.
  2. Of course! Its his contribution to the world cup spirit....
  3. I like the video - much better than his usual efforts! Still think it sounds like a Eurovision entry though. Really we have to face up to it - he's more interested in Italy and France than UK and USA. Fair enough really, neither market has been kind to him. I'm rethinking Mika - just can't relate to him in his prim suits and expensive shoes - what happened to the lad of 2007 who was such a breath of fresh air and so inclusive and relatable? Oh well.... will still get his next album

  5. Truly awful song. But probably would do OK at Eurovision.
  6. I really don't think he does anymore I don't think him being marketed as 'foreign' was the problem, personally I think the rot started with the videos for TBWKTM. That album didn't do him any favours. If TOOL had come first I wonder if things would be different...
  7. I heard that research has been done showing that the internet has led to a reduction in ability to concentrate or to handle complex arguments. We are so impatient on the internet, more so than real life I think (hope)
  8. I really like the way you put that, and agree with you
  9. But - I haven't seen him live for a while, but the gigs I've been to definitely weren't all exactly the same. Some nights he was chatty, some nights not and when he talked to the audience it wasn't about the same things at all. Also he tried things out musically, adapting and playing with the songs. OK that must have had to be rehearsed, but it gave a feeling of freshness. His gigs, to me, were exciting to be at partly because I felt I was at something unique and different which won't just be replicated the next day. I agree with you about TV and videos
  10. I know!! Its ridiculous - its not as if they have to be gay! Stonewall summed it up so well 'If you don't approve of gay relationships then we strongly recommend you don't have a relationship with someone of the same sex'. And as they put it elsewhere 'Some people are gay - get over it'
  11. Me too I also think religion is a way to cope with the fear of death and of 'not being' Hmmm bit gloomy...sorry On a happier note, I am really delighted for Mika - and also for myself as about to become proud Mum to a 3 month old kitten! Wheee!! Sorry, just had to share that x
  12. Maybe he's gone as far as he wants to with his career and its about maintaining it, not conquering the world anymore. That might make sense of the France show, keeping his profile high there. I don't sense he has much ambition in relation to the UK now. Who knows...
  13. I'm confused - was he hidden away for TOOL? Ignore me, will catch up soon, still on page 12...
  14. But people change. My guess is after LICM he thought that he had to 'be in hiding', produced TBWKTM, and then realised he needed to be out there working with people and - voila - TOOL.
  15. Perhaps there will be a competition for the most artistic crutch design. With a special preview of album 4 at a private concert as the prize.... I think the Voice has more credibility than X Factor and am not that surprised to see Mika on it - was very surprised re X Factor which I don't think makes any sense at all. Will we be able to see the French Voice in UK?
  16. I wish he'd just be himself, and not hide still. That's a kind interpretation - alternative is apathy on his part which is the great enabler of abuse. Wonder if his family is very religious and he doesn't want to offend them too much - they are his emotional centre.
  17. Well said! I find it horrifying that the (last) pope didn't lead on eradicating child abuse in the RC. Not sure what this one's views are.
  18. He does know a lot of very successful people though (Katy, Lady Gaga, Adele, Kanye West). I like that he doesn't use them to get ahead, but it would be nice if they did something behind the scenes for him.
  19. They would have been ideal... Celebrate would have fit there too. I did wonder if it was actually written with those events in mind.
