Hey all!! I’m new to the Mika fanclub and have never been to a Mika show before 👋👋

i wanted to post because I live in the area and actually went to a concert at roadrunner last week and thought I may be able to give some description if people want. It’s a VERY new venue though so I can’t promise that anything hasn’t changed up a bit in the last few days. I went to two shows and already they were adjusting things as they went. One thing I would say though is that the surrounding community is a little upset about the queuing so they were constantly trying different things to satisfy them and that could make things very challenging. For example they didn’t let us line up until 4:30pm the second night. They’ve had a few shows since so that could change too though. I am reaching out to see if they have a comment. It’s very confusing since they are a new venue. Also for parking if you are driving fyi it’s really only 2hr in that area, unless you pay for a garage. Also there is a grocery store right nearby so you can grab food or drinks or whatever you may need during day of. If you have any questions about set up inside the venue I’m happy to try to answer that too

Thank you so much for this info!

do you happen to have a pic of the outside? When I checked last week I couldn’t find a good pic & the google street view hasn’t been updated in years.

What are the traditions for St Patricks Day? It's not really celebrated locally, except maybe pubs offer discounts on Irish beers.

Celebrations generally involve public parades and festivals, céilís, and the wearing of green attire or shamrocks (says Wikipedia).

if you don't wear any green you get pinched! Also, green beer is a thing.

I know it's late but St. Patrick's Day is also the feast day of St. Gertrude of Nivelles (The Patron Saint of Cats).

In two weeks.... I'm on a plane to NYC!

And a few hours later on a plane to Boston.

I AM SO READY!!!! I even updated my packing list and since I am only carrying hand luggage, even got all the miniature versions of liquids I am allowed to take with me. So that's ready to go as well. Am I excited? I am excited!!!! Are you???

this time i'm not even letting myself get as excited as previous times, but...

    :excite::nervous::cheer: <me on the inside

    :wait:<me on the outside

I've been updating my packing list all along, i've made google documents with a long list of what i still need to do & when, lists of what i'm gonna wear when and how much this all is likely gonna cost and my schedule plans and ideas for places to eat, i've plotted directions for everywhere i might need go, studied airport maps and rules, downloaded a bunch of transit apps, test packed all my bags, and still i feel completely unprepared.

i just need to relax, take it easy... oh geez thanks Mika, now i've gotta plan for ending up on a broken train alone

I can't imagine trying to do all this AND dealing with getting ESTAs and pre-flight covid tests and jetlag and travel insurance and all that. Good luck to you all! I can't wait to meet everybody :excite:

I'm telling you.... You will be on a Mika and mfc high... No problem

She's not kidding, the high is real. After Mika gigs I can't usually sleep, even when i want to.

But if for some reason you're immune or something :freak:, there's always caffeine.

I've never experienced jetlag, but this article has helpful sounding tips https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/165339#treatment

  5. Is anyone else planning to go directly to the Boston airport after the gig and post-gig waiting around for a Mika sighting? If so, maybe we could share an Uber or take public transit together or something? Or if anyone is going to South Station via Uber I'd split the cost with you, then I could take the silver line from there to the airport, or whatever or something. I've just crunching numbers and fretting again as usual and thought I throw this out there.

  6. A! Thanks for getting all this sorted @dcdeb

Either time is ok with me... i guess 6pm allows a little more time in case I get lost in the subway after i check-in at my airbnb in Brooklyn after 3pm, but 5pm isn't too early & would mean we all wouldn't be travelling back to our rooms so late

Wait, when are you leaving Boston? Or are you going elsewhere in-between gigs?

I think she's talking about the concert on 5 April in NY, which is a Tuesday, and that she's going to the train station straight after the concert to go home. :original:

I’m flying out of Boston at 6am on Sunday morning (actually booked that flight yesterday!) & heading back to my sister’s place in Philadelphia for the night. It’s extra travel but once the gig date changed it seemed cheaper than getting a room in Boston for 2 nights (or one for an extra night in NYC) + I’ll get to hangout with my sister a bit more.

Hero, have you decided where you’re staying yet? Hopefully all the good places aren’t booked up yet!

  8. I actually prefer the options on the prix-fixe menu and it's cheaper. but if we go with the  other menu, what i'd choose based on what i'd eat would be:

    ANTIPASTI  E  INSALATE Choose 3

Bruschetta (Grilled Italian bread with fresh tomato, basil, garlic, and olive oil)

....and that's it, the rest all have some things I dislike. Anyone want to trade this course for their desert?

    ENTRÉE Choose 4

Penne alla Vodka (Penne with onions, ham, fresh tomato, light cream, parmesan cheese and a splash of vodka) - ham and vodka are a bit iffy, but if this is what others want i can make it work

Farfalle Isabella (Bowtie pasta with chicken, broccoli, roasted bell peppers sauce, garlic and olive oil) - this is my #1 choice!

Pollo al Limone (Egg batter coated chicken breast sautéed with white wine, butter and lemon) - hopefully i won't be able to taste the wine

    No others.

    DOLCE Choose 3

    Tiramisu

Crostantina alla Crema di Limone (Homemade Amalfi coast miniature lemon tart)

    Sorbetti Misti

Too bad we can't order from the kids menu, they had a couple good options there :teehee:

  9. I can’t believe I forgot to post yesterday! It was BUN DAY MONDAY (bolludagur) in Iceland.

    image.thumb.jpeg.71132e01be404d74bbe468f7bbb49ece.jpeg

I’m not Icelandic, nor have I ever actually celebrated it, but ever since I heard about it from my Icelandic friend a few years ago I’ve wished we celebrated it here in the USA  ….well, the bun eating part at least, maybe not the spanking part

    OK I'm confused. Are people

    a) staying near the venue and travelling into Manhattan etc for sightseeing

    b) staying in Manhattan and travelling into Brooklyn for the concert

    c) staying half in Manhattan and half in Brooklyn

    d) something else?

    A!
My Airbnb is about a 10 minute walk from the venue but I’ll only be staying there Monday night. After the gig I’ll be heading to Penn Station in Manhattan to await my 4am train.

I figured I’d arrive Monday morning by train, take the subway to Brooklyn and do something fun there like go to Prospect Park Zoo or the Brooklyn Library (FYI the Botanical Garden and Brooklyn Museum are closed mondays) then checkin to my Airbnb at like 4 or 5pm(?) before heading back to Manhattan for the meetup. So,  lots of subway practice!

I can make it work, there's 2 starters and one dessert I can have, and one main if I scrape the mushrooms off. :lol3:

Does anybody want my spare mushrooms? :biggrin2:

sorry, mushrooms are like #7 on my list of things i never ever plan to ingest again. "Sautéed" sounds like they'll be chunky and obvious for you to find.

    super fancy

we have vastly different definitions of "super fancy" :lol3:

Bowlero sounds fun, but Gigino's seems like the best option. I've no special dietary considerations (other than a long list of things I don't ever want near my mouth but the winter prix-fixe menu has a couple okay options)

The location looks exciting! I've never really been in that area before
