  1. I thought what they meant was if someone actually knew any of their previous works? I found this while googling Clarence Coffe Jr: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monsters_and_the_Strangerz And this is Rob Wells: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Wells But I personally wasn't familiar with their names before.
  2. Exactly, that was one of the first things I checked in the booklet when I heard Promiseland for the first time! You're welcome
  3. I've made pictures of the credits in the booklet and posted them here: http://www.mikafanclub.com/topic/31695-album-news-no-place-in-heaven-to-be-released-1516-june-2015/page-12#entry4006075 These are the writers for all the songs:

  5. The album is currently #22 in the Dutch iTunes chart, this morning it was #37. Seems like it's climbing! And I saw that on the official Dutch Charts site (http://www.dutchcharts.nl/) they're promoting No Place In Heaven as a tip!
  6. Maybe he could pull a Taylor Swift, who made a bonus track from her third album a single because it was a fan favourite. We should let him know how we feel about this song!
  7. Hi and welcome here! Such a nice introduction I'm so glad that Mika's music has been able to help you in that way. And I really hope he is going to do proper gigs in the UK soon! Once again, welcome to the MFC and I hope you'll like it here
  8. Promiseland. On repeat.

  9. Yeah the (British?) "r" after every A... I've heard it quite often with "idear" too, my English teacher would always say that, though she has an Australian accent. But as far as I'm concerned his pronounciation has always been a bit odd
  10. I've been listening to it and I think that V sound is because he first sings "You" in his chest voice with a lot of air, which also makes it sounds more like "shu" (less so than what he did in Heroes, "shu blood on me", but still a little), and then he continues in falsetto with "and I" and I think that transition between airy chest voice and falsetto is what you hear. Perhaps he even pronounces a tiny V or W like "You-w-and I", either to make that transition smoother or to chain the words together to make it sound more flowy. Or I'm just over-analyzing things
  11. Perhaps quite literally, "the middle child" I interpreted "another son" as Mika, but a Mika that's happy with his trophy wife and that wants kids etcetera.. But yes in my interpretation, this basically is his fear, or was his fear before coming out to his family, not reality, Mika doesn't have a wife that he wants to leave anyway, or had one once (at least... that we know of )
  12. I hear that too, I sometimes wonder if he pronounced it that ambiguously on purpose To stay on topic, my first time hearing the lyrics I felt like it didn't quite move me as I personally am not religious, but later I found myself crying while listening to it. He makes the topic approachable and relatable for anyone. I love the piano and melody as well. I feel like I'm saying that about basically every song on the album, but it's true.
  13. It's only a bonustrack, so we probably won't know until and if he does it... but I HAVE to be there with you!
  14. Aren't those low notes quite similar, in tone, to the ones in Big Girl? The very last sentence, I mean? He always sang that live, right? The tone of the voice sounds different from what he usually sounds like, besides that part in Big Girl, but the pronounciation and the way of singing (also in Oh Girl, You're The Devil) do sound like him. I think he can sing it live.
  15. I've noticed that I turn up the volume big time when this comes on, I think right now it's my favourite
  16. You're almost right: "Jumps out of the closet head first no parachute" This song is.. different But I reaaally like it
  17. I think he's seen our desperate attempts at understanding him and has decided to make life a little easier for us Well, I'm glad all the lyrics are in the booklet. I always appreciate that.
  18. Just received the physical album and it has all the lyrics in the booklet, and it says "It's just what I was hurled" as well
  19. This song.. really hurts So beautiful. Definitely like a pearl in this album (one of the many pearls though, I have to admit).
  20. I found this tiny "review" in the newspaper (Noordhollands Dagblad) we have at home (all of their cd reviews are this small). Didn't know where else to post it. Translation: "Michael Holbrook Penniman (31, mixed Lebanese-English origins), aka Mika, himself says that he is influenced by David Bowie and Mark Bolan. When he had his breakthrough in 2007 with his first album 'Life in cartoon motion', which includes the addictive 'Grace Kelly', we heard some similarities with Freddie Mercury, especially vocally, as well as with some natural pure pop artists and the English music-hall genre from before 1960. Holbrook (why call him Holbrook? Seriously?) apparently has dozens of melodies in his back pocket, that's how naturally his sometimes happy and sometimes melancholic songs sound. A perfect example of the latter is 'Porcelain', which is full of riffs and intriguing patterns."
  21. It's quite amazing how he's managed to make a song called 'Porcelain' sound so fragile indeed. Beautiful song, like a tiny piece of art, as he's described in his Italian track by track video.
  22. Promiseland is amazing! It really goes up and down the whole time, it's like you're being thrown around. And I love the unapologetic part of "Don't occupy my throne / Give me the crown I own"
  23. I'm in love with the entire album! With every single song he manages to move me.
