  2. Whoops, I should specify, that song ^ is called Good Luck, Babe! She's a queer artist, so that's the main theme in her music as well. Good Luck, Babe! is from what I understand written about a woman she dated who was closeted and in the end went back to being with a man, because she could not accept her own sexuality. It's sad to think that there are still people to this day who are in a position where they feel that they can't be their authentic selves... those of us who can are actually very privileged in that regard. She doesn't have a large discography yet, so you can listen to all her songs in basically under 2 hours, but I'll share some of my other favourites: Pink Pony Club reminds me a lot of the message of Mika's Club Apocalypso, a place where you can be yourself without shame, where you're surrounded by like-minded people and won't be judged for who you are: HOT TO GO! cause it's just a really fun song, makes me feel like it's summer already: Picture You, to me, is like if I See You had an older sister: And my favourite atm, idk, it's just fun to discover a new artist, she tickles my brain the same way Mika does, so I'm hoping to drag some others into this new obsession along with me 🤪
  3. I have a new obsession since a couple of days, and her name is Chappell Roan. A rising pop star with a rapidly growing fanbase, especially after her recent Coachella performance took the internet by storm. I figured I'd open a topic for her here, because maybe there are other Mika fans who already know her, or who might want to get into her, so it would be fun to talk about her music together 😊. I'll link a clip of her Coachella performance here, because that's what got me hooked. Her vocal power is incredible, and those lyrics are so raw and full of emotion... I really felt it. She's an obvious talent and I can't wait to see her star rise even more. There's influences from drag culture, 80s music, it's a bit Kate Bush-esque, it's show, it's emotion, it's real, I love it. 4. I didn't really know which thread to share this text in (is there a thread for neurodiversity in general? I could not find it), so I figured I'd just put it here, since it's Florence's text. I found it on Twitter yesterday and it really touched me, so I wanted to share it here, since it reminds me a lot of how Mika speaks about his own neurodiversity, and I'm sure it'll resonate with many of us here too 💖
  5. Lastly, homophobic cowards attack you when you're alone and vulnerable, not when you're with a whole pack and are at an event with security all around. I personally wouldn't be worried for my safety if i was there. As we have seen last time in Lyon, there is more risk to get hurt at a Mika concert, caused by Mika fans themselves, than there likely will be at this event 🤷🏼‍♀️
  6. I think it was pretty evident from the get go to most of us that that is what you meant. I suppose we should let the mods decide whether such a racist comment can be tolerated on this forum or not. Have you forgotten 50% of Mika's DNA is also of that "special ethnic group"? I'm afraid when you generalize an entire group of people, it's going to sound rude no matter how you phrase it. We don't have to be naive and deny that there is a rampant homophobia issue among young boys (and some girls), and that indeed there is overlap between those who listen to rap and those who uphold a culture of toxic masculinity, but I can assure you, as a lesbian, from personal experience that I have had more issues with white boys than with Arabs or any other ethnic group. I feel safer to show my pride in big, diverse cities like Amsterdam and Utrecht than i do in the majorly white town where i grew up, where i don't even dare to bring my rainbow tote bag out with me. It's cute that you try to spin this now as though you are concerned for us, his young LGBTQ+ fans, when it's just a thin veil to cover your own racism and islamophobia with. We have plenty of people in this fandom too who are of Arabic/Maghreb/muslim descent, I would mind your words a little more if i were you
  7. Idk if you've seen yet but here's a good video of you giving it to him! Also so fun that you met Chana, she and i have also been internet friends for ageeesss. Never met irl though! Such a coincidence that you were both at the same gig without knowing it of eachother haha
  8. So he really went all out during the festivals then! Cause I remember he had actual stage pieces for it too, like paintings on the wall and stuff if I recall correctly, and Ida had that whole wig and a big dress and everything... it deserves a name, maybe he can name it retrospectively or we can come up with something 😂 Also ty! I didn't realise the tours were listed on Wikipedia. I also wonder what the difference between the 1955 tour and the Imaginarium Tour is, cause it doesn't show many results on Youtube, only an interview with him about the stage decoration which looks a lot like that of the Imaginarium Tour 🤔. Maybe that was more of a prequel to Imaginarium
  9. I'm basically becoming a permanent resident of this thread haha, sorry, but i was wondering, is there a list somewhere of every tour Mika has ever done? I'm trying to think of the name of the one where he wore period clothes, but I'm coming up short, and i wonder if there are more tours from before my time which I don't know about as well. If someone can provide me with such a list, or perhaps with the info to create one myself (it would be nice to have it somewhere on the forum, no?) I'd be very happy! ☺️
  10. Final update for everyone worried they'll get assaulted by a bunch of rap fans at the event: I took one for the team and listened to some of this guy's songs, and I can now confidently say this is "music" which only teenage girls will listen to. You'll see it on his Instagram too, it's only young girls in the comments. I doubt any real hiphop fan would go out of their way to see this guy. So really, no worries, at most you're going to be judged or stared at by a group of wannabe mean girl middle schoolers who think we're all freaks for listening to Mika instead of to "popular" music, but that's probably the worst that could happen.
  11. It may also reassure your husband that the demographic whose presence he's likely so worried about, is also the demographic which is most likely to boycott McDonalds, so they probably won't even have participated to win tickets for this event in the first place. I hope you can persuade him to go anyway. If he's with you, he can also ensure your safety, no?
  12. I highly doubt they'll check IDs and make a fuss if the name on the ticket doesn't correspond with your name. They want to fill that hall, small as it is, they're going to record the event so they wouldn't want it to look empty or like there's no atmosphere. I doubt they'll reject anyone at the doors. So for those who live in Lyon or who can easily make it there, it's probably a safe bet.
  13. Vacra fans (if he has any) are not likely to be middle aged women or youth dressed in rainbows, no, but why would they be "dangerous" because they like rap? They may be urban youth, or men, but I don't think this guy makes drill rap (the only genre of music which i can imagine may attract shady types), so he probably has normal fans who will behave just fine. If your husband is worried about a "certain demographic" attending, he should maybe work on his own biases, rather than limiting your freedom to see your favourite artist. And why would Lyon be dangerous? Even Paris is safe in most areas and that's the capital, while Lyon is much smaller. I really don't think there's any need to worry. As for the setlist: as others have already said, Vacra is a beginning artist, he probably doesn't have that many songs and i imagine his set will be short. I bet the only reason they included him to begin with was because they thought maybe it would attract more "youth" to their restaurants, since rap is a popular genre and they maybe feared Mika would not be "hip" enough, but I suppose by now they've realised they're wrong 😂.They wouldn't offer so many tickets for free to MFC if they didn't know that it's the Mika fans who are loyal and will show up to their event and that in the Vacra department there's not a lot to gain for them. Mika is the real star in France, I'm sure he will get the most time to perform and they'll organise it so that Vacra's set will be more of an "opener" for the real show, and I'm sure the audience will be mostly Mika fans.
  14. But nice for the people who won (e.g. probably everyone here, if they're that desperate to fill the space), because it will be a lot more intimate than expected at least.
  15. Looks like they had to downscale A LOT if this is the venue now 🤭 (as seen in the e-mail from fans who won). It can hold up to 3000 people for a concert, that's quite the change from giving away 9000 x 2 places 😅
  16. If you've not received it wouldn't that just mean you didn't get selected? Not trying to squash your hopes here, but was it really confirmed that anyone who participated can win?
  17. Well, turns out the image I was looking for was on my own Instagram account all along 😅. I just didn't remember that I had used it before! 🙈
  19. The stadium was sort of my own (hyperbolic) assumption, since they offered 9000 tickets for 2 people to win for that concert (see here) That's 9000 x 2 and then not even counting the people McDonalds will have invited/reserved seats for themselves, people who work with them, etc., you would need a large venue to host them all! I would not be surprised if they downscaled though, perhaps they were expecting more enthusiasm for this contest than they actually got, it may be the McDonalds boycott really had an effect on it.
  20. Thank you! So not the photo I was looking for, that mystery still remains, but at least I can rule this one out haha. It was really a photo on which he was properly stuffing his face... no idea how to ever find that again 🙈
  21. Back again with another very specific request: does anybody have a photo of Mika stuffing what looks like the last bit of an ice cream cone into his mouth? It's a photo taken from the side and fairly zoomed in, rather unflattering but also quite funny. It may have been a paparazzi pic, I'm not sure, but I know I used to have it in my meme gallery before I lost all the photos due to a malfunctioning SD card 😩. I want to use it in a meme post for my Instagram, I would be really happy if someone could find this and once again confirm that I'm not crazy and this photo really exists somewhere 😅😂
  22. Putting the ethics of the McDonalds gig aside, I think if I participated in this giveaway thinking I would see Mika in some intimate private concert just for Mika fans, and I then found out on the day itself that actually it's going to be in some huge stadium (if I recall correctly McDonalds had a LOT of tickets to give away in their app too) and there's also going to be that other guy, Vacra, performing, I'd be quite surprised 😅 It's still a nice opportunity, especially bc those who maybe wish to see Mika but didn't want to directly support McDonalds can now potentially attend it through a backdoor without having to buy a burger and install an app and what not, but why wouldn't Mika's team be transparent about what sort of gig they are giving away places to? I really had to come and check on here, because I thought maybe Bloom just connected the wrong dots or something, but no 🤷🏼‍♀️.
  23. Good thing they did share that information then, so people know what they're actually getting tickets for 😅
  24. I guess he suddenly got nervous then, probably didn't expect to be called out 😂
  25. Is Bloom correct that this is the private concert organised by McDonalds which Mika's team is now offering tickets for?
