  1. Yeah, that's how I feel as well- I like all the songs well enough, but the album as a whole is just not what I expected. I did some rearranging, and I feel like the songs "flow" better like this– Tiny Love Dear Jealousy Sanremo Ice Cream Platform Ballerinas Stay High I Went To Hell Last Night Cry Ready To Call This Love Tomorrow Paloma Blue Tiny Love Reprise
  2. After listening to the whole album about ten times (some songs more, some a bit less) I can say while I wasn't too fond of several songs most have now grown on me. Tiny Love didn't click for me in the beginning- something about it's unusual structure just didn't work for me- but after listening to it some more I actually really love it. Still not my favourite, but better than average Ice Cream is okay, I guess. Not bad, but also not particularly great, and probably the song that gets skipped the most. Dear Jealousy is great, definitely in the top 3, and the first one that gets sometimes played on repeat. Paloma is so, so beautiful, I love everything about this song so much. The lyrics are beautiful (and the "fly against the wind even with a broken wing" is very relatable), the chorus is catchy but not too upbeat, and the melody is also really pretty. ❀️ Sanremo is fun, but not one of my favourites. Still good, though, and very catchy and I think it may still grow on me. I instantly fell in love with Tomorrow when I first listened to it, it's a strong contender for favourite song, for the times when Paloma is too melancholic. I like the story it tells, and I loved the melody. Ready To Call It Home is good, I like it, it sounds sweet, but there's just nothing really special about it (except that it's a love duet between two men!), just a kinda basic love song. Cry needed some time to grow on me, and it still gets skipped sometimes. But I like it more every time I listen to it, it might still get one of my favourites. I really dislike the first few seconds of Platform Ballerinas, but the chorus is really catchy and fun. But the lyrics don't really make too much sense- why should dancing etc make someone less of a girl? So it's an okay song, but I get startled by the beginning every time. I Went To Hell Last Night is the opposite of Platform Ballerinas- I love the beginning, and the lyrics are nice, but the chorus is so boring and the Beatles-like music doesn't really fit the lyrics. Blue is something? I don't love it, even though I usually like calmer songs, but something just isn't working for me. It feels kinda forgettable. So I don't actively dislike it, it doesn't get skipped, but that's all. Stay High is another one I don't like that much, but I think this one might still grow on me. But after the calm Blue it feels too upbeat, too loud, so maybe I like it better when I listen to it on its own. I have to admit I'm not as much in love with Tiny Love Reprise as most people seem to be. Yeah, it's really touching when you know who the people singing are, but I feel like it can't really on its own (but maybe it's not supposed to, it is a reprise after all. Overall it's a decent album with some really, really beautiful songs, but also some mediocre ones (but no really bad ones). I have to agree with the people saying that it doesn't actually feel all that personal (except Tiny Love + Reprise and Paloma) and it feels a bit all over the place, though I think some rearranging of the songs would help with that, I really dislike the transition from Cry to Platform Ballerinas) (I might be too used to the flowing transitions in Owen Pallett's albums- you can almost hear the whole album as one song!) . Maybe I will actually make a playlist with a different song order and see if the album as a whole works better for me that way. For now, I think NPIH will stay my favourite album- and that one does feel more personal- but Tomorrow, Paloma and Dear Jealousy go on the "best songs ever" list.
  3. I use duolingo for learning French! I had French for 5 years in school, but I hated it and forgot almost everything... but now that I actually want to learn it, I'm having lots of fun πŸ˜€
  4. I've only been able to listen to it two times so far (family starts complaining if I play songs on repeat ) but I really like it so far! I love the lyrics, I'm always a fan of songs that talk about music or have musical metaphors.
  5. I've already seen those videos. πŸ˜€ But thank you anyway! I'm going to check out the TV show! And as for actually going to concerts, I'll just have to wait and see. 😊
  6. I'd love to watch some concerts! I've already found a bunch of recordings on youtube, but I'm sure there are more. πŸ˜„ I wish I could actually go to concerts, but even with concerts near me I can't go to many because I can't stand for long amounts of time. I'm fine if I can sit down on the floor occasionally without getting crushed by other people, but even that sadly isn't possible in all venues. 😞 There are too many beautiful songs! But besides Underwater I especially love Origin of Love, Last Party and Make You Happy. I've been lucky enough that my family and friends have always been fairly supportive, but there are still some anxieties and struggles that come with being queer that still don't go away that easily even with a supportive environment, and having music that deals with that helps a lot. 😊 (Wish I'd had Good Wife 7 years ago when I was hopelessly in love with my straight best friend, haha). I actually have the DVD as well, and yes it's great. πŸ˜€ I just have more time to just listen to the music a lot than to watch the DVD. πŸ˜€
  7. Another Bavarian! I'm originally from Niederbayern but currently living in Mittelfranken. πŸ˜„
  8. Thank you for the warm welcome! 😊 I have lots of favourite songs already, but the first place has to go to Underwater, considering that last week I spent several hours writing sheet music for a piano cover. That's not something I've done before, for any song. πŸ˜ƒ Second place goes to I See You and basically the whole Sinfonia Pop recordings. (Almost) everything can be improved by adding an orchestra πŸ˜„ Favourite album is No Place In Heaven– so many lovely songs, and all the queer themes really speak to me. ☺️ That's also the reason I rediscovered him– I saw a post on tumblr talking about Last Party, Good Wife and the other queer-themed songs, so I decided to give his music another try. And then youtube recommended me the Sinfonia Pop version of Underwater and I instantly fell in love. So I bought the Sinfonia Pop CD and spent the next couple of months listening to almost nothing else all day long. About two weeks ago I decided to try if maybe his other music is also "okay" (because while I don't mind listening to the same 21 songs over and over again, a bit more variety is still welcome) and found that yes, it is. More than just okay, even. πŸ˜‹ So now here I am. πŸ˜„
  9. Hi! I'm Juniper, I'm 24 and from Germany and I've been a Mika fan for 5 months or so πŸ˜„ I knew some of his music before – because you couldn't really be a teenager around 2007 without at least knowing Lollipop – but my taste in music was very different back then and I only "rediscovered" Mika's music this summer, and I'm glad I did because I've been listening to hardly anything else since. And I'm very glad to find my newest music obsession has an active fan community– I tend to have really intense feelings about music and it sucks to have no one to share them with! Also, I just want to say that I was very happy to be able to select nonbinary as my gender when signing up. πŸ’š
