Hey everybody! Just a little warning that we will be running a fairly big upgrade on the site later tonight. I plan to run the upgrade tonight and expect it will take a while, maybe several hours. During that time MFC will be offline, but we will try to keep everyone updated on our social media accounts, on Twitter and Facebook. When you log in tomorrow, you'll find that a number of enhancements have been made. Many of these won't change your daily usage of the forums as we don't do e-commerce here, or they are functions for moderators. But there will be some changes that you might notice: -- Improved search function -- Ability to resize large photos before uploading. -- Ability to embed TikTok videos -- Expanded thread (also called topic) lists. This means you'll be able to read part of the thread from the list of topics, without having to click inside to see if it interests you. -- Each thread/topic will have an activity bar so that you can see at a glance how old it is, when the last reply was, a mini gallery of images in the topic and more. -- Topics will show follower counts so you can see how many people follow the subject. -- Long quotes will be collapsed, reducing how much scrolling you'll have to do, if you want to skip over something. -- Improvements with notifications. -- Integration with a variety of other apps, including Google Docs, Twitter, Facebook and Discord. For example, we SHOULD be able to create a Google doc that all members can see, and that new members will be added to automatically. (I say "should" because this is a beta test function, so I'm not sure if/when we will be able to make this work for us.) The most exciting thing that will happen with this upgrade is the introduction of a mobile app version! This is still in beta testing for iOS and Android, so we have to see exactly how it's going to work for MFC, once our software has been upgraded. It may still be a while before this is available to all of our members, but it is something that we will keep you updated on. Thanks for your patience tonight while we undergo this upgrade. I hope that by tomorrow at this time we'll all be back here, with everything mostly back to normal! Let us know if you have any questions or experience any issues!
Hellooo everybody! So, we're due for another software upgrade -- it won't be a major one, like we had this past spring, but it will bring a number of enhancements, functions that will make the site easier/more fun to use, I hope! Here are a just a few things that are new in Invision Community 4.2! Clubs - Clubs are a brand new way of supporting sub-communities. We might be able to use this function for our International groups. Reactions - Offer more fine-grained sentiments towards content than a simple up/down or 'like'. They are now in common usage on social networks, like on Facebook. Complete Your Profile - Encourages you to fill out the details on your profile. Also now allows for quick registration to encourage joining. There will be other improvements as well. I'm not going to run the upgrade for a few days yet, just wanted to give you all a head's up that it would be happening soon, so that when you start to see the additional functions/icons, you won't be caught off-guard! Let me know if you have any questions, and I'll TRY to answer them!
So... SURPRISE! Our software upgrad took place overnight last night! This was a surprise to me, as the last time I spoke to our Tech Support guys they said they wouldn't get to us until the middle of the week. Wish they had warned me, but... oh well, as the saying goes, it is what it is. (I hate that saying, btw!) As you can see, we're still a work in progress -- we don't have everything exactly as it was before... but it's getting there, thanks in large part to mellody (Karin), who took time away from her little ones today to help get things organized here. THANK YOU, KARIN! Things may run slow for a while -- there are so many processes running in the background, plus we're actually a big site with a lot of files, and it will take a while to rebuild everything. So as you explore the new look, let us know if you find anything that you think seems quirky. If we can fix it, we will -- but understand that it might just be a change due to the new software. As time goes on, we'll be trying out some of the other functionality of this updated software, so we'll keep you posted! Thanks so much for your patience today as we sorted things out!
Hello MFC! Wanted to give you all a little warning that we're going to be upgrading the site's software soon. We've been running an old version for a while, so it's time! With the upgrade, we expect some changes, both in appearance and in functionality. Initially, we are probably going to lose our current color scheme and our snazzy Mika slideshow that you see on the home page. But don't panic -- we'll get our "look" back as soon as we possibly can, with some improvements. Because we'll be upgrading, we will also have some new options and functions. We should have an improved mobile-friendly version of the site, and we'll also be looking into an MFC app. The upgrade should eliminate some of the technical glitches some of you have been experiencing, too. But in general, the forums should look the same and work basically the same way they do now -- you won't have to re-learn everything from scratch. I'll keep you up-to-date on what's happening and when in this thread. We may have some downtime, but we'll try to keep that to a minimum. In the meantime, if you have any questions, I'll try to answer them -- TRY! Thanks for your patience!
