Agree with CazGirl about putting them in a different section of the forum. so that it is obvious to any one reading them they are fanfics..

With a thread explaining about fanfics.. the rules of doing fanfics on this site and a statement saying something like *No bad intentions were meant to any of the people we have based our characters on*.. etc.. etc..

I think stopping the creativity of the people on this site would be a shame. But it needs to be strongly pointed out that respect must be given to Mika at all times.. and of course all other members.

I don't have problems with fanfics - as long as they are respectful towards Mika and as long as they don't take over the forum.

 

I know there are forums where fanfics are not allowed though - for example the official German Tokio Hotel forum:

I don't understand the discussion about what the difference is supposed to be between logging in as a guest or as my id.

As a guest a have access to all the threads but I'm not allowed to post comments.

Personally I think Fan fics should be PMed to people who are interested and not posted on the forums.

 

I know I go on and on about this, but forum posts come up in google searches. They are public, no matter what heading you post them under.

 

If someone is new, or has never read a fan fic, or was just randomly searching on google for something Mika related and one of the fan fic posts was what came up, they would get the wrong impression of MFC and maybe Mika too.

 

I am not saying don't write fan fics, I am saying they have the potential to lower the tone of our forum, and as such, in my humble opinion, would be better off as PMs between interested people. Alternatively, someone can set up their own fanfic page, and get everyone to go over there when they want fan fics!!!

I think they're fine. I used to write them as part of an online community that wrote stories involving other musicians.

 

I say they're fine, as long as each story is stuck to one main thread. I mean, it would suck to sign on and see:

 

My fanfic - chapter one

my fanfic - second chapter, guys!

fanfic! - chapter threee!

Actually I think they're good, as long as they're respectful to who/what Mika and other "characters" are. The stories could be funny, touching, whatever but they should be on a certain level.

I guess that's my feeling too. I didn't think that we were banning fanfics

entirely -- I thought it was the fanfiction that was getting a little too

erotic or had the potential to go there that was discouraged. As BlueSky

says, I think anything too "out there" would definitely reflect poorly on the

forum in general.

I don't feel the need to read or write fanfics myself, but I can understand that others do. Offering a 'corner' where they can enjoy their needs as long as things are not becoming disrespectful towards anyone who is involved.

But is that a feasible idea? I know the PPR thread is huge and confusing as it is without adding all the other fanfics to it. We spend a lot of time going back to catch up on story entries that were written while we were gone; I can't imagine how time-consuming it would be, not to mention confusing, if we also had to sort through entries from other fanfics. We'd also be making a new thread every three days or something; PPR Part 2 was made last week and already has over 2,000 replies.

 

Obviously, I am pro-fanfics. I agree that it might be a good idea to move them to the Chin-Wagging section, but I don't think they should be taken out of the forum completely unless they start to equal 50% or more of the threads in the section. The thread I write in has always been respectful of Mika, (although I was PMed with the idea of adding a disclaimer, which I am thnking is not such a bad idea.) and for those who don't like fanfics, the thread should say it's a fanfic either in the title or the first post, so that these members can steer clear of them. I don't understand how anyone can say they want to move fanfics to PMs so other members can avoid them; it's a very simple technique to avoid them: once you know it's a fanfic, stay away from the thread.

 

Someone in this thread said something about how there are groups of people on here, like cliques. I agree. That's why I don't see fanfics as intrusive. They are little cliques, clubs for people who want to write and express their creativity. I don't think it's fair to do away with all of them because a few got carried away. There should be a set of ground rules, but that's it.

In the Aussie thread , there are a few 'fanfic' writers ... who I choose to keep anonymous here .... & they just post to those of us who may be interested ... via PM ... also aware of age etc. .... & yes, I realise that our thread has way less members than UK & USA ..... however , it is pretty well self- moderated .... just another thought & contribution to this discussion .....

And it doesn't matter where the threads are filed if you do like me and always find things according to the NEW posts link. That is the only one I use, so everything comes up there and I just skip over the threads I don't want to read.

 

And some threads start off normal and evolve into fan fics.

Like one could be fantasy (well lets face it, theyre all pretty much a fantasy) but another one might be set out differently... Im not sure.
