englishrose Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 I found a quote from Jackson Browne in an article I was reading a few hours ago (Rolling Stone issue 1047, if you're interested ), and I thought it was pretty applicable. He was speaking to Jack Johnson. It goes like this: 'You're going to have to deal with that feeling you get when the crowd is out there and there's this energy coming toward you. Some of these people think that they actually love you, but what they love is the projection of you, and they don't actually know you.' I know it's probably nothing you haven't heard before, but it made me think because it wasn't coming from the fan, it was coming from the performer. That the person whose projection we worship is actually aware to some extent of what we feel...I don't know. This probably all seems really obvious. Anyways...thoughts, comments?
happikali Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Good one ER !! This should be a good thread to chat in !!

fantapantsprice Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 that makes so much sense! it must be such an amazing feeling to have a crowd sing ur own songs back to u don't ya reckon? i love when Mika sang "Any Other World" in Bologna and u can hear the crowd more than u can hear him and he starts laughing in the middle!! must be scary but obviously it makes him smile too:)
sienna Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Remember the interview Alan Cummings made with Mika after Somerset House? Alan asks him about how it felt when the audience was singing back and Mika answered something like “it’s the best feeling in the world!” In the footage from that performance you can see Mika‘s face when he is on stage and all the people are singing back to him. His face radiance of pure happiness! Yes that’s the best smile in the world to us fans Mika! The fact that it is hard for a fan to keep feelings for the artist separate from real feelings when you fall in love with a person you know in real life is hard. Otherwise we wouldn’t have threads on this forum talking about marrying Mika and giving up you boy or girlfriend for Mika’s sake. Of course most of the things written there is for fun, but still! Interesting that maybe even for the artist feelings for the fans can be easily mixed up and sometimes hard to interpret in a sensible way!
englishrose Posted April 25, 2008 Author Posted April 25, 2008 Yes, when we got up on stage during Lollipop, even when everyone was mobbing and touching him and it was total madness, he was laughing and grinning. It was so nice to see...and that smile is one of things I remember most clearly from that concert... It must be scary, though...I dunno how I'd deal with so many people adoring me...I'd probably hide!
Mika4Life13 Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 I think, If a permformer said it, they don't know what it's like to be the fan . In our shoes, sure, we don't *know* MIKA, but we know him, form what we've gathered and so on. We don't really know anyone in this day and age anymore, so that makes no sense to me. I would tell people i love mika, but they'd telling "You don't love MIka." Well, if you don't love MIKA, you're obviously not a fan of him, or his music, which is two different derivations. You can like MIKA the man, and MIKA the music. I love, Mika the man and Mika the music. So if you don't love him, don't tell me I don't me being the fan it's just this...feeling. It's like..love at first sight, you don't know the peron, truly. You just love what you see, and it's OK with you. You're comfortable with it. Artists all categorize us the same but really...we're all different stages. I find it irritating when we're all grouped together. Man, i'm either way off topic or i was never on the topic ignore me
LadyGodiva Posted April 25, 2008 Posted April 25, 2008 That is very true i'm sure, as much as we all hate to admit it. Thats why i never use the word "love" in the meaningful sense lightly. There is nothing wrong with loving a projection either, because it is still part of a person, just not all of a person. Hints at what's inside:thumb_yello:
