Suzy Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 The Cure. I'm not even close to being an obsessed fan. But I really do enjoy some of their songs. And it's 80s music - I'll never escape that rut. -- --- ---
Blue Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I went to their concert in Rotterdam last month (18 March). Several people had 'warned' me for a 3 hour show - it turned out to be 3 hours and 15 minutes. Man, they still rock after all those years! We were 2nd row on Porl's corner of the stage, fascinated by his transparent shirt and his beautiful guitar while my friend (fan from an early age, she was born in the 80's ) couldn't take her eyes off his high heels. I don't have pics of the show though, I forgot to bring my camera, didn't expect to end up at such a good spot.
dcdeb Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 LOOOOVE THEM. Ditto! I've never seen them live, but think Robert Smith is amazing! I'm such an '80s girl, just like Suzy I think Blue just went to see them, didn't she? Amsterdam, maybe? Oh Blue?! Come and tell us how they were... dcdeb

We are in sync, still! Thanks, Blue! Have missed you!
greta Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 THE CURE!!! most underrated band ever they were the best in the world in the '80s!!! I'm so sorry I wasn't born a lill before..Robert Smith was so HOT! I love their works so much..not only the mainstream "pop" songs, but also > their experimental 1st album "Three Imaginary Boys" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5lblfPhQ8Q 'Seventeen Seconds' > a minimalistic psychedelic rock awesomness play for today M {anguish..} http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ez0OUg1-scQ “Faith” >a bit too depressing imo..still a beautiful piece of the new wave subgenre Robert was creating The drowning man http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLJIw1NftIg “Pornography” > the Dark manifesto One Hundred Years A Short Term Effect gotta love the hypnotic slow rythm..pretty romantic http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYLdunqLTf0 Siamese Twins delicate, moving..splendid, even if it's deliberately "made heavy" and distorted The Figurehead http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQjIXJv-HHY pure poetry and many more.. The Walk electropop?! Caterpillar psychedelic wow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KH0A239VnPo “The Head on the Door”&“Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me" monumental..the Cure reached a wider success with these 2 masterpieces.. Disintegration http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5_CROC3Xh8 ok...NOW GO BUY ALL THE CURE MUSIC YOU CAN!!!

I love the 80s, I was born in them (sadly not a bit earlier).
Suzy Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 Diana, Blue, dcdeb, and greta - I'm not too surprised to find you gals in this thread. Blue - hope to get a great show like yours. Jack, Christine, zoots, closetmikafan, and I are seeing them in about 2 weeks!!!

Blue Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Blue - hope to get a great show like yours. Jack, Christine, zoots, closetmikafan, and I are seeing them in about 2 weeks!!! That is great! I am sure you will have a fantastic night out! It's so cool actually how we found gig buddies on MFC, and not just for the Mika gigs! MFC'ers from all over Europe meet up in the UK for Palladium, the German girls join each other to see The Kooks, the Dutchies are planning to see Alphabeat, Diana and I are going to a Chris Chameleon gig in the Dutch Outback , I know there's a bunch of MFC'ers who went to see Ross Copperman in London and in the US MFC'ers get together to see The Cure!
Blue Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 LOL! While I was typing, asking for you to tell us about the show, youwere writing it! We are in sync, still! Thanks, Blue! Have missed you! Well I've never really been away - just hidden! Love you too!
missgaga Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 They're great! My brother used to listen to them, when he was younger so I inherited love for their music!
Blue Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Well I said US, but I meant US/Canada of course. Where is the concert you're going to, Suzy?
Christine Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Well I said US, but I meant US/Canada of course. Where is the concert you're going to, Suzy? Toronto. We're also going to see Yelle tonight. I wish Palladium would come to North America.
Blue Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Oh really! So she has found her way to North America yet! Mikas support bands are doing a good job! Palladium have not even made it outside the UK yet although they played at (indoor) festivals in the Netherlands and Austria. And while I am writing this Sara Bareilles starts singing 'Love Song' on 3FM. The 3rd coincidence today.
Christine Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Oh really! So she has found her way to North America yet! Yelle was here a few months ago as well so it's at least her second time playing in Canada. I think Quebecers are very much hooked into the French music scene which is why Mika is exceptionally popular there.
Sarah_loves_mika Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 My favourite band of all time. (Sorry Mika! ) Although i wasn't alive in the 80s, i was bought up on their music on account of my parents being obsessed fans themselves. Their music just has something that other bands can never seem to capture or copy - i can't describe it.
dcdeb Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 THE CURE!!! most underrated band ever I think you hit a nerve with Greta! I have much of their early work. Now that I think of it, I guess I've been a pretty big fan for a while... They're always either on the CD player at home or in the car. Diana, Blue, dcdeb, and greta - I'm not too surprised to find you gals in this thread. Blue - hope to get a great show like yours. Jack, Christine, zoots, closetmikafan, and I are seeing them in about 2 weeks!!! So lucky! I didn't know! Enjoy! And we'll expect a full report! I guess someone should have started this thread sooner! That IS really, cool actually. Just goes to show that not all internet people are sexual deviants and axe murderers (which my mother used to and still believes!) dcdeb
Paulinalovemika Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I love the Cure , Robeth Smith is so lovely and adorable haha:mf_lustslow:..............I will always love you however long I stay I will always love you whatever words I say I will always love you
zoots14 Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 LOL... this is going to be so much fun. "OHHHH Tainted Loooove!" It'll be just a wee bit different than the Creature concert last week! I wonder if bow-tie guy will be there.
Kissable Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I LOOOVE the song "Lullaby" and so the video!!! I'm not even a fan but i think they are a super legend...
Gatagordinha Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 I was a big fan of The Cure in the 80s, I went to see them in concert in Madrid in 1989, it was unbelievable...they did a nearly-3 hour-long set!! My favourite song of theirs is A Forest; I also love Close To Me, Just Like Heaven, Six Different Ways, etc etc, ....but I am most definitely not a fan of Lovecats Lovecats is to Cure what come On Eileen is to Dexys

Gatagordinha Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 oHHHHHH come on Eileen is great!!!!! Yes it is actually, but what I meant was, it's the song that always gets played at weddings etc..like Lovecats...because the DJ doesn't know any other songs of theirs and it always gets people up dancing etc. When 'proper fans' just cringe a bit........ Maybe that is the fate of Grace Kelly too....
