Little Boots tops music tips list

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/7814304.stm

Haven't seen this posted yet -- thought it might be of interest.

I've not heard of Little Boots, which I guess is the point

-- but she lists David Bowie, Gary Numan and Kate Bush among her influences, so she's right up this '80s girl's alley! :thumb_yello:

Here's the rest of the list, the article has links to a sample of all the music.

BTW, Lady Gaga already has the #1 single in the US, so I think she's

a pretty safe bet :wink2: :

1. Little Boots

2. White Lies

3. Florence and the Machine

4. Empire of the Sun

5. La Roux

6. Lady GaGa

7. VV Brown

8. Kid Cudi

9. Passion Pit

10. Dan Black

I've known about Little Boots for about 6 or 7 months now... I have quite a bit of her stuff. And Lad Gaga. I have Florence and the Machine's EP which is also pretty good. A few of us saw Dan Black live (and are seeing him in a couple of months again). I have some White Lies stuff somewhere on my iTunes too I'm pretty sure....I like La Roux too (supporting Lily Allen I believe...)

Pretty good list based on the ones I know about, I'll have to listen to the others sometime.

Oh, yay! Dan Black! (only number 10 though :sneaky2:).

I really, REALLY like him since I saw him at the Mencap Little noise thingie in november, and will be seeing him in March for the Wonky Pop tour.

Can't wait! I think that he will have a good future.

Check him out:

Oh and also just read popjustice.com everyday and you'll hear about all of these people months/years in advance :wink2:

and good old Wonky Pop has a list up too...

Marina & The Diamonds (www.myspace.com/marinaandthediamonds): Our good friend and a lovely, lovely person. Expect big things. We've been lucky enough to hear some of the album demos. EP.IC.

Kid Cudi (www.myspace.com/kidcudi): Already getting great radio play with Day N Night... it's just so damn catchy.

Pearl & The Puppets (www.myspace.com/pearlandthepuppets): Overlooked by many tipsters, but this glasgo lot have some great tchoons worth wrapping ears 'round. Still unsigned... but for how long.

Frankmusik (www.myspace.com/frankmusik): Ahh Vince Frank. He's DJd for us a couple times and is super nice. Damnit he ought to play proper.

Little Boots (www.myspace.com/littlebootsmusic): Our Halloween headliner blew us away. Great pop songs with an electro twinge. Lovely.

Boy Crisis (www.myspace.com/boycrisis): One of out trio, along with the next two, who are playing the Wonky Tour. Dates are up online. This lot are coming all the way from NYC for it... how very kind of them.

Master Shortie (www.myspace.com/mastershortie): Where do we start with Master Shortie? It's just So. Fkng. Cool. Rap without the cheesey trenches of faux gangsterisms.

Dan Black (www.myspace.com/danblack): Londoner by way of Paris, Dan's cover of Biggies Hypnotize is amazing. Not a one trick pony though, there's some proper music there.

Apes and Androids (www.myspace.com/apesandandroids): Another New York crew, who need to be seen to be understood. Their live show is their true ace in the sleeve, with some cracking songs and an already loyal cult following.

Passion Pit (www.myspace.com/passionpit): This is my favourite band I've heard in so so so long. Expect this to go all MGMT by summer 09.

Oh and speaking of Dan Black, I love that he did this in a church hahha http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=G_RAPKcfWI0 I was sitting next to a friend/relative/crew guy of his during his performance and he kept asig if I thought he was good the whole way through haha

I think that popjustice list links to the wrong Dan Black's myspace -- this

one is set to private for a guy in New Jersey.:naughty:

Anyhow, I listen to BBC Radio 1, so I have heard Kid Cudi and a few others

and, as I said, Lady Gaga is big here already -- I saw her on Logo's

NewNowNext awards a few months ago and thought she was fabulous, so

I'm glad to see her break out. :thumb_yello:

I've been listening to some of the rest of the list -- they actually have

15 bands on a longlist. Frankmusik is in there -- I like him a lot. Isn't

that who Mikey Choi is working with now? And Empire of the Sun reminds

me of MGMT a bit -- pretty cool video.

I'm interested to see who really makes it from this list -- last year, I knew

the Ting Tings (who were #3) were going to be big.

Yeah Frankmusik has been around for quite a while. I was supposd to see him last April or May but he pulled out last minute so I didn't get to see him in the end. I've listened to him ALOT this year though :thumb_yello:

and yeah, there are some wrong links on the PJ list :naughty:

Little Boots tops music tips list

And I've just read this, so I guess now I really have to give

Little Boots a listen :naughty:

Little Boots plays first 'proper' LA gig at Club NME

Hotly tipped singer gets dance floor hopping

Little Boots made her LA debut this week with a performance at Club NME Los Angeles with Fred Perry Subculture last night (February 4).

The petite singer packed a punch with her ready-for-the-dancefloor tunes from her debut EP including 'Magical' and 'Mathematics'. Backed by a drummer and keyboardist, the solo project from Dead Disco frontwoman Victoria Hesketh won over the packed house, which included members of No Doubt, Mika and Lily Allen producer Greg Kurstin.

"This is exciting. It's my first proper gig in LA," Hesketh said. "I come to LA quite a lot so it feels like a homecoming even though I've never played here."

The crowd cheered and danced with their hands in the air throughout most of Little Boots' 40-minute set, and booed in disappointment when she announced she would be playing her last tune. "This is a little song I can't quite fathom," she said when introducing her hit 'Stuck On Repeat', which got the whole crowd hopping.

Little Boots played:

'Magical'

'Meddle'

'Click'

'Mathematics'

'New In Town'

'Love Kills'

'Stuck On Repeat'

Club NME with Fred Perry Subculture takes place at Spaceland in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles every Wednesday night.

Seen the white lies , they will be huge .. a cross between the killers and depeche mode

Really good live :thumb_yello:

Thanks SO MUCH for the tip; I'd heard their name branded about but never managed to finally listen to them, so I have checked them out now and I love them!!

They do sound a lot like Depeche Mode to me :mf_lustslow:.

Thanks for the info, my MikactivitySpy :naughty:

What's that 'members of' mullarkey about? Again, another example of the whole 'Mika as a band' image thingie that we were talking about the other day. Many people think that Mika are a band, and not a solo singer, and I guess that this is partly due to or exacerbated by the way that M gives the band such an important position in the show.

Oooh I can't stand Lady Gaga.

Neither can I. I haven't even heard her music so far, because I just can't stand the woman just from seeing her on all the papers wearing her underwear on the streets and lying on stage trying to be controversial by pulling a Madonna .

Pfft.

I really can't stand that sh!t.

Her music may be great, I am not denying that (I haven't heard it yet so I relaly can't comment on that) but what I am seeing of her image and behaviour wise just makes me very uninterested. I can safely say that I will not be attending any of her gigs any time soon.

On a more positive note, I cannot wait to see Dan Black in March. He's AMAZING!!!! That Little Noise Mencap thing left me wanting more :wub2:.

I understood it as the members of 'No Doubt' the band (are they still together?) and Mika.

So did I -- I had to read it several times to make sense of it, but

I think the write did mean to say "members of No Doubt AND Mika AND

Lily Allen's producer." Should have written Mika first, just to be clear :naughty:

And yes, No Doubt are back together -- I just read it recently somewhere... probably on Perez Hilton's site :wink2:

I checked out some Little Boots songs on Youtube - she really is talented. She seems to have her own channel on which she posts all sorts of cover versions performed by herself and they are damn good. (e.g there is a song I absolutely loathe - Haddaway What is Love - and she turned it into something I really love...

...

She also seems to write her own songs, one is titled Mathematics...

I think I like her. She is very sweet and natural - hope she won't change:thumb_yello:
