Mikas tolles Comeback

Mika's great comeback

The British singer Mika gave an exclusive acoustic concert in the Passionskirche on Monday.

Only really good pop songs work without a bombastic show. And it was precisely these musical pearls that Mika gave away on Monday in the Passionskirche.

Purely acoustically with a four-piece band, the 25-year-old reported back after abstaining from the charts and the stage. But that was not so easy: the singer had to start three times until his first song "Lady Jane" chewed out of him - but powerful for that.

So the man masters his craft. At the piano he seduced his audience with sweet falsetto singing and then thundered his good mood hits like "Grace Kelly" through the church. The crowd jumped enthusiastically between the wooden benches.

Was ist typisch libanesisch an Ihnen?

Mika: "Couldn't read but could hear"

Without his dyslexia, Mika would probably not have been a musician. And certainly not a knight.

He was born in Beirut to an American and a Lebanese: Michael Holbrook Penniman, known as Mika (26), sold the carefree Seventies sound of his debut "Life in Cartoon Motion" three million times. He will be presenting his similarly happy “The Boy who knew too much” on Wednesday at 8 p.m. B.Z. reporter Dirk Krampitz gave a surprisingly serious interview.

In stress? The conversation was postponed to the last minute five times.

This is my defense strategy, I could work 36 hours a day and still not get everything done

Bad, as a pop star?

Well, it's fun, but I hardly have five minutes to myself. Today I started at 6 a.m. and at midnight I have a photo shoot.

His parents fled to London before the civil war. You were teased at school until you collapsed. At eleven you could no longer read, write or speak. Who helped you

My mother taught me at home. I am still infinitely grateful to her for that. But the music saved me. I couldn't read, but I could hear. And then I did that. Who knows if I would have ever started composing if it hadn't happened

What is typical Lebanese about you?

I am loud and talk a lot, I am easy to inspire and I need noises, preferably music, around me. And my family means a lot to me. It gives me protection

You have just become “Chevalier des Art et des Lettres”. Proud?

Nice. It is a medal with a green bow, but on the first evening I lost it on the way home.

You live with your family. Could nobody help with the search?

We are rarely all there, but my sister ran into me. I said, "I'm looking for my knighthood." She thought I was nuts - until we found her.

Thanks @Kumazzz ! In the 2nd one (interview) they used the same photo, but it's an interview from March 2010 (see date in the article), at the time of the Imaginarium Tour gig at Berlin Huxley's.
