What song does it for you?

Talking about one in another thread, I thought it might be a nice thing to have a thread about. I know all Mika songs are great, especially live, but I ask you to choose one song, from one gig you've been to .. and explain why you've choosen that song.

I'll start.. just quoting from what I've posted in that other thread..

It just was ... magical ... The one thing I really hoped would happen happened.. and it was amazing :wub2:

And not only the acoustic Relax, but also in the middle, where he starts the "heavy" version .. How Martin & the others just play what Mika wants, at the time he wants it .. like they've done it a 1000 times before (wich isn't true, Martin told us it was a spirit of the moment thing from Mika and they just had to follow because Mika's the boss :roftl:) .. Just magic :wub2:

I'm talking here about the acoustic Relax @ Brussels .. I guess this was really THE song/moment of all gigs ... Although I must say that Just Can't Get Enough @ Werchter comes close, but that's for other reasons :naughty::teehee:

And now you!

If you haven't been to a gig yet (:huglove:) you can always speak about a certain video or so :wink2:

Weirdly enough, I'm going with a performance of a song that's one of my least favorites: Happy ending. It was at the gig in Doncaster.

I went through a rollercoaster of emotions that day. Taking a plane for the first time, to go to a gig whilst I wasn't even sure if I'd have a ticket. A lot of stress, followed by total excitement when I got one. Even more excitement since we had such a great spot... And then he sang happy ending, during the song he was pushing his voice so hard, that it kinda ... how do you call that... broke?

I don't know what it was, but something about the performance made me all quiet and I got teary eyes. Yes, I'm a bit ashamed about that, but okay, I'm the type of person that gets emotional about music. Sometimes music just touches something inside of me, and it brings up all these emotions I wasn't aware of. So yes, that's the performance for me.

Vid of it by the amazing sariflor who stood next to me at the gig:

At 0.18 you can hear what I mean with: 'his voice broke'

Very closely followed by 'over my shoulder' in Brussels though :mf_rosetinted:

Happy Ending in Amsterdam. He didn't have Ida or the string players with him, so it was just Mika and the melody on the piano. After telling us to "sing our f*cking hearts out."

Bienie's vid of it:

:wub2:

I started bawling like a baby. :tears::blush-anim-cl:

Closely followed by Relax in Paris when he got Aurelien to play keys. I thought I was going to lose my mind with utter elation for them both. :wub2:

Hi!

Well it's quite hard to say which song I prefer... It's like asking me if I prefer my son or my daughter... But Relax with its acoustic version at the beginning and then its normal tune was very special to me too. My son would say his favourite song is Stuck In The Middle.

the song I don't like to hear is Lollipop... only because it means that's the end of the show and I want the show to go on and on. at the Olypia I liked Iwant you Back too Bye everybody!

Love Today is always very special to me, love it so much. Was so happy during Love Today in Berlin and Milan. I filmed it in Berlin (

) but in Milan I just wanted to dance and enjoy.

Another song I might choose is OMS in Berlin. Everyone was so quiet during that song (a church was a perfect place for it), it was SO beautiful. I could hardly breath and had tears in my eyes :wub2:

I've never been to a gig, but the one performance that I can think of that really "does it" for me was Happy Ending at PdesP.

Just the part at

--I could listen to that every day of my life. His voice is absolutely divine throughout the entire song, but the solo is where he really lets it go. Leaves me speechless. :wub2:

I have never been to a Mika gig, but I watch a lot of videos on youtube :naughty:

I have to say it s the acoustic performance of Relax, take it easy in Brussels that does it for me:

The 'oo-aah' at the end is just perfect and melts my heart :wub2:

but very closly followed by the performance of 'Happy Ending' at the same gig, and also Rain in London. :wub2:

His voice is so magical, so perfect :wub2:

From the start Happy Ending was one of my favourite songs ever ... When I've heard it in Brussel in 2007 I was completely overwhelmed ... especially with the last part of the song :wub2: It is so pure and vulnerable ... When I've heard it in Brussels two weeks ago, it was - if possible - even better. I cried like a baby :teehee:

For some reason the songs touches me big time. I like his voice when he sings it.

Other songs that really do it for me are the acoustic versions of Relax and Rain. Allthough I wasn't in Westerpark (Netherlands) last year, I was really touched when I heard Rain for the first time ... I played it over and over for weeks after that :fangurl:

I love the "little bit of love" bit. Feels like everyone's uniting. Very touching.

Any other world @ Birmingham academy. The video isn't the best, but his voice is soo magical. I just found it whilst looking for a good quality version of any other world live and umm well, on first play, it made me cry :tears: His voice! so powerful....when he sings "lonely, lonely heart" towards the begining....wow :wub2:

I do love Happy Ending as a song in general, but I do love it live. Like I said in a previous post, the "little bit of love" bit just makes it feel as if everyone is uniting and I find that very special and touching.

Any Other World is my least favourite on the album, but one of my favourites live. I'm not really sure why, but there's something about it that makes it feel more extraordinary when played on stage. It's tragic and beautiful. I think he puts more emotion into it than he does on the CD. "Say goodbye...to the world you thought you lived in..." I also love it when Mika stops singing that line and allows the crowd to do it for him. It's got that united feel again. Like, "times are tough, but we'll hold hands and we'll get through it." kinda thing. Also really touching.

I also love Love Today, simply because of the energy! That's from Mika AND the crowd!

RELAX!!! Obviously!! The one that sounds like it's from the CD AND the acoustic version!! They are both amazing. I love the heavy sound when it first comes on...there's such anticipation and it really pumps you up, because you know Mika is about to jump on stage and you KNOW the party is about to begin, you feel it in every fibre of your body and you know, no matter how many times you've already seen it, that it's just gonna amaze you.

The acoustic version...I love the melody of the piano. It sounds a little...I'm not sure. Mellow, yes, but it even sounds a little sad? Like...something major has happened and this is the sad aftermath, but we'll keep on. Kinda thing. Not really sure how I can explain it...

Combining them both together - like he did in...Amsterdam or somewhere? Somewhere recently during the EP Acoustic tour - was just pure genius.

I COMPLETELY agree with you on the happy ending/any other world making you feel like as if everyone's united. It kinda makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. It's so...powerful.

It's the most amazing thing when Mika moves me in a song, whether it be making me cry, laugh, dance or just simply smile...it's the best feeling, and not many people can actually do that to me. :wub2:

This is the amazing video where Mika combines both relax's together: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVFDM...eature=related

And can I just say that THAT happens to be one of my favourite videos on youtube. :teehee:

Oh my goodness; I know what you mean! I really didn't like Any Other World that much, but when I saw it in Live!ICM, I actually teared up. You can tell the song means a lot to him, and he just puts all that emotion into the live performance. Definitely a "live" song.

From who? :mf_rosetinted:

Just envisioning myself back in that concert room listening to all those songs that touch me :naughty:

I don't know what it is, but when there's a song that pulls your strings in a certain way...you're in that room full of hundreds of people...but sometimes, you're staring at Mika, and you can hear everyone singing at the top of their voices...but does it sometimes feel as though no-one else exists? Like, you're just really living in the moment?

Hah, geek post :naughty:

Relax.

Frankfurt, October 2007.

After having lived on MFC and youtube for 6 months, I finally got the real deal.

And until today this is my very favourite gig altogether. Probably because it was the first. And it WAS pure magic. I swear I didn't breathe for at least a minute when Mika entered the stage and it finally hit me that he was real. And physically there in the same room. Unbelieveable.

And he sounded a million times better than in every recording I ever had the chance to listen to.

And I had listened to many.

And he was a million times more beautiful than on any picture or in any video I had ever seen before.

And I had seen so many.

And he radiated something I couldn't get hold of. Yet I absorbed it and it felt so good.

I think that night I revaluated my idea of overwhelmed.

But even before that gig Relax had a meaning to me. And it never lost it. Far from it.

That's why I really hoped for the acoustic version in Berlin. And then I wanted to attend the Paris gigs really bad. Not only because of the chances being good to get to listen to that version of the song first hand, but yes, I did hope for it. However, I didn't make it.

I'm sorry to admit that, now having seen the footage of what I expected to be close to the acoustic recordings, I'm glad I didn't make it. Doesn't make me love him less. *shrug*

you're right, every mika's song is touching for different reasons, personally i'm touched by them depending on my mood and on how my day's gone..

moreover, i'm totally in love with his voice, it arrives straight to my stomach, and i have a feeling for certain notes he reaches (not necessarily the high ones) and for the intensity with which he sings or even with which he plays the piano..

my first song is any other word from the oct. 2007 bologna gig (italy)

look from 3.09 to 3.34

now i'm used to his way to involve the audience, and i love it of course

but that was my first mika gig, and in that moment i didn't expect that the singer could show his appreciation to the audience singing along! and i was almost disoriented from that "ha ha", i clearly remember i was really surprised!!

now every time i listen to this particular performance, i just listen, him and us, and relive that night with a certain feeling in the heart.. :blush-anim-cl:

then i have to mention rain from pdp

the very first time i listened it, i cried... and i don't feel ashamed to tell it, it was a pure emotion i was feeling, mostly joy and regard

his voice, the piano, the lyrics, the emotion for hearing a new song, but above all the way he sang it... priceless!

now it seems almost impossible that such an intimate song is going to become a 'dance' hit, but mika's already done this magic with relax, and we know how intense the thing could be.. even if this time he's inverted the process :teehee:
