RAK1
Now that's a better idea methinks And while we're at the planning, is it only me who's getting concerned about the fact that now, 4 months before the date, people are already making plans to get there first thing in the morning? This is exactly why I'm starting to hate this massive gigs with GA standing and why I loved Sadler's Wells in June. It was such a relief, such a liberation, turning up feeling relaxed, not hungry and tired and thirsty and looking like a hobo, safe in the knowledge that I needn't waste a whole day standing there to end it all in the "Big Bang" getting into the venue scramble. Some might argue that I felt that way because I had front row seats, but that is not the case-The point is, even if I had had 15th row seats, I KNEW where I was going and I was relaxed thinking that there would be no stress trying to get in and find a good spot. When there are so many "hardcores" at these gigs it becomes a proper battle to get to the front, with everyone trying their luck and pushing and all sorts, and this is why I am all for seated gigs. There's no need to sit, we can all decide to just stand from the start, and when it comes down to it, it doesn't change the atmosphere one bit. Anyway, this is turning out to be a bit of a long one and the only point that I was trying to make is: if we start carrying on now (or ever, but especially now, so far in advance) about how early everyone is willing to get there on gig day, we will end up with a Brixton scenario where people are spending the night there. Now, considering that the "normal" people only start turning up at the earliest around 2-3 pm, isn't that just majorly stupid of us????? It keeps happening and it keeps getting earlier and earlier, and I just don't get it. It will be the middle of winter, people. Do any of you remember how bitterly cold it was at Brixton? Do we NEED to spend the whole day there? Do you rememeber anyway how they opened more than one door at the time in Hammersmith and once we got in it was all a big scramble, so the order in the queue didn't have such a huge impact anyway? If the purpose of the queuing is to socialise, we can go to Starbucks and sit and chat there having tea in the warmth. And yes, don't worry, I know that this huge post won't make any difference if someone is determined to be there at the crack of dawn , but I'm just getting really worried that the conversation about "how early should we get there" has already started and that people are so quick to WANT to go and spend the day there. I reckon that we should make some sort of arrangement that everyone agrees to abide by, like say for example not going there before a certain time. Would that work? If people are honourable it could.... I'm totally 100% behind you on this. I've been saying this all along, that 2-3pm is plenty early enough to start queueing. And it would make parking so much cheaper for me. The only reason I mentioned it before was becsuse I knew that no matter what anyone says, there's always the small core of people who will just get there ultra early anyway. It's stupid, makes no sense and just creates the whole, "I need to get there earlier" scenario that we all seem to fall into.
Jazzy
I think it's a good idea to agree on a time that we all stick to, but can we guaranteee that everyone will stick to it? I've never queued for more than 3 hours before, so I'm a newbie to this whole queueing for front row shiz, but I have got that front(ish) row bug now, since Sadler's Wells, Scala and Bloomsbury Ballroom so I'd like to be down the front, not necessarily front row, but nearish. But I suppose I'm the same as many other people in that respect, we all want to be near the front. If the "normal" people start queueing between 2 and 3, would it be an idea for MFCers to start arriving between 12 and 1? Obviously I'm no expert, cos the earliest I've showed up to a Mika gig was 4pm (that was on a Sunday in London too) and I was a few people in front of the barrier that you get about 20 feet back from the front barrier, if that makes sense? Those who know Brixton fairly well should know what I mean. Anyway, long story short, the 3am people are nutty and I don't think we should try and compete for places with them, cos let's face it, if they're camping, they're pretty desperate for that front row spot. It would be wonderful if we could make an agreement, but as you say, there will always people who will get ultra early and not everyone who will go is an MFC'er so...difficult! kt4mika
are people talking about me and sivers posts?? we was only joking, i wont be getting there to about 2 or 3. i really hope not as we have loads of time to think about all that anyway
RAK1
Sara, I bought up the idea of agreeing not to start queuing until a certain time after the last lot of GA, UK shows, but remember being told at the time that it wouldn't be viable, as people will do whatever they want. I still think it's a good idea, but you have to get everybody to agree to it, and I suspect that won't happen.

Laurel
I don't particularly want to go and spend my day queueing at Hammersmith ... when I went last year ... I got there at about midday ... and there was already about 20 people there ... yep that's not alot I guess ... but it's alot for me ... I've said it before and I'll say it again ... that's why I love Franz and gigs so much ... I can go at 4.00 or 5.00pm and they'll only be about 5 people there .... Just wish it was the same ... but it's not ... and I don't think it ever will be ... and knowing this ... it does make you go earlier ... or book up for other gigs that aren't bloody London ... I'm now going to Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham and Brighton too I am actually mad

I think it would be good to get to London earlyISH and just keep an eye on the queue at least. Okay, maybe not queue at 8am but I'm assuming people will know what I mean. Jazzy
Mika needs to do a UK tour in the summer. FFS! I hate the cold Yeah, he should do a gig in a field or something so we can just roll in when we like, sit down on the field in the sunshine, have a picnic, he comes on at 3pm, does his set and we're on our way home by 7ish. That'd be nice. Do I sound like an old woman?

sariflor
No, you're not the only one... I was absolutely horrified when I saw the conversation on that yesterday... I even decided to switch off my laptop completely. In a way I knew it would happen with the London gig and I am pretty sure Amsterdam will be similar. However, at least we shouldn't encourage random guests reading that starting to queue at 3am is the expected routine. Yes, that is one of my main problems with this whole discussion. It creates expectations, and behaviours that are NOT normal are seen as normal, just because everyone discusses them and joins in with the idea. Rose, I do remember you saying that, and of course I don't have any expectations that it will work, but it just frustrates me so much that the London gigs which should be the nice chilled "home" ones for so many of us become this battle and this unpleasant experience, when there is absolutly no justified reason for it. Monie, re your question about the 08 gigs: some person/people spent the night there at the door, which is why I find this whole thing so mad. It just makes no sense. I was even being too conservative timewise when I said that nobody "normal" turns up before 2-3, because I don't think that Ive ever seen non hardcores turn up before 5 pm or something like that, as Laurel explained regarding the Franz gigs. It's like us the Mika fans have to be extra stupid and spend the day in the cold/rain whatever, just to get a good spot, when all we're doing is competing with eachother. You know what we should do? (Not that I think anyone will go with this) We should take all the names in the rsvp list and do a random draw to allocate "queue numbers" so that we know in which order we go in before the day, and then there is no queueing
Jazzy
who cares if you sound old that sounds AMAZING...and then Mika can join in with our picnic I'll make jam tarts. That would actually be so amazing. Apart from the fact that home-made picnic food is the shiznit, Mika gig in the sunshine, in the afternoon, no worries about last trains or getting up the next day...facebook campaign anyone?
