Mika has revealed that he had already met the Queen before going on stage at the Royal Variety Performance - but at the time he was smelling of horse manure.

The Grace Kelly singer recalled how he broke into a polo event as a seven-year-old and managed to queue up to meet her, even though he and his friend had been playing in what they thought was a sand pit.

"Prince Charles was playing a polo match, it was a private event, we managed to join the line and she almost managed to shake our hands and then took one look at us, probably smelt us, and turned around," he laughed.

"My friend lived next to the polo ground and we broke in, and we ended up playing in what we thought was a sand pit - it actually ended up being a big manure pit."

But Mika said he wouldn't be mentioning their last encounter to the Queen when they met at the show in Blackpool on Monday night.

He said before the event: "We've been told to keep it very short, and not to speak until we're spoken to - so I don't think I'll be bringing up the horse manure story."

The star added he was also looking forward to meeting Whoopi Goldberg, who he described as "my Oprah".

"I know most people who are performing apart from Chaka Khan and Whoopi Goldberg," he explained. "Whoopi Goldberg's my Oprah - I think she's absolutely amazing.

"I think she's going to take over Oprah's throne. She's brilliant - I've loved her since I was a little kid."

Cool! I like most of those people- some of them more than the Queen does, I imagine, though I'm sure she can't resist Mika

From the headline I assumed they were performing together, but I guess not from the text

Yeah, I did that because I got a pm that I had to mention the real title of the article in the title of threads in the future.... But... it's not good when the title would only be about lady gaga either.....

...

So I did this :mf_rosetinted:

Wow, what an amazing opportunity! Mika's a class act, he'll be awesome, I'm sure.

(If she's wise, Gaga will tone down her act for this special performance. She can wow the audience with her voice and musicianship, rather than shocking outfits or stage antics.)

It's later this year, it's normally in late November.

I suspect tickets would have been way out of my price range anyway, like the CIN ones. But I'd have gone for Mika, Peter, and Bette. Don't suppose Michael McIntyre and Eddie Izzard might be on the list too?

Now that WOULD be a show!:wink2:

Shame we couldn't be there, we could have ahd the fish supper with him, that we missed in September:naughty:

Nice to see something happening outside the capital again. :thumb_yello:

yes it IS sin't it, shame it's waay to late for us to get a ticket and shame it might have been waaaay out of our price range anyway (unless we re-morgaged our homes), I am sure some might have gone to those lengths but I don't think my hubby would appreciate being chucked out on the streets lol.

Yeah- like Children in Need it gets a huge TV audience, it's part of the run up to the British Christmas. PRobably a bigger audience as it's a variety show- they have excerpts from the big West End musicals, comedians etc as well as music. Come to think, that might be a bit tedious if non English speaking MFCers want to follow on FilmOn, but it's a great opportunity for MIka

This is the most AMAZING news! I've been longing for Mika to be chosen to perform at the Royal Variety Performance!! Another dream has come true! Alan (my hubby) is a Gaga fan so he'll be excited too.

What a great night it will be and it will certainly be wonderful to see Mika and Gaga together on the same bill.
