Fangirl Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Has this been posted yet? Feel free to close this thread if it has. POP singer Mika is grooming his dog for the superstar lifestyle - by teaching her to fly. The flamboyant star is training his dog for the tiring star routine of constant touring by putting her on planes, trains and automobiles. Mika admitted to The Razz that he gets lonely on tour and needs his trusty golden retriever by his side. He said: "I'm working on my third record and also trying to train my dog. "The idea is the dog is going to come on tour with me so basically a friend of mine is putting her on planes and driving her around to get her used to the travelling. "Isn't that the most ridiculous thing ever? It's such a funny picture but that way she won't freak out when she goes on tour. "The idea is to have her on tour everywhere. I think I need a dog and it will make things better on the road." Mika has been touring the globe non-stop for nearly 18 months and plays Edinburgh's HMV Picture House on Monday. He said: "I've done Asia twice, pretty much all of Europe, America almost twice and even got South America in. By November, I'll have done every continent in the world. It's been my biggest tour ever. "The second record didn't sell as quickly or as aggressively as the first but touring has doubled so it has given me energy to plough into the third record. "I'm not exhausted. If anything, I'm energised by it all. It has inspired me and shown me things you never imagine. "You show up in Morocco and play to 45,000 people, then you sit there and say, 'How do these people know my music and why are they here?' "It's a surreal quality. I played arenas in Asia and you walk in to a huge room in Korea and ask, 'How did this happen?' Mika currently has some of his family members accompanying him on the road and he admits he sometimes feels like part of a travelling circus. But the singer behind hits Grace Kelly and We Are Golden says he employs his family because no one else wanted to help him when he first started out. He explained: "We travel separately but we see each other at shows. We work together but don't all live together. We've just became a strange circus family. "When I was starting out, I couldn't find anyone. I didn't have any money and nobody wanted to work with me. I hadn't even signed at that point so my family said they'd help and it just worked, so we kept it that way." Mika also spoke fondly of his favourite female artist Lady Gaga, despite saying earlier this week that her music had caused other artists to have "a personality crisis". He said: "It's a good thing. Her music is so strong that it has changed everything and I think it's brilliant. You couldn't have a better compliment than that." Mika also revealed he invited Gaga to his home after hearing she was a fan. He said: "I first met her at my house. I invited her around. She had come to a few of my shows in New York before she'd started off her thing and I had heard that she had talked about me in the press. "I was flattered and honoured. We arranged to meet up and that's how it started. I don't think we're musical soulmates. She's totally her own thing." He added: "When she comes round to your house, you just kind of... I don't know what you do... nothing, nothing at all. It was natural conversation with her but I don't think we'd collaborate. "We are very different. Droopsy Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Wow nice one! Thanks for posting! Enjoyed reading that
Christine Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Oh thanks for that. WTF does he mean he's played America "almost twice"?
crazyaboutmika Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Kumazz posted it on Mika's dog thread but it sure deserves it's own! That's a great article! I like that "travelling circus" quote! So many trucks, suitcases and people travel with Mika! Even golden cute Melachi baby pup will soon join!
EmmaImogen Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Thanks for posting. but I don't think we'd collaborate. "We are very different. " I'm kinda relieved about this, I can't stand her music.
ilseh1983 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 t4p i loved to read this aticle especially the part about his puppy
Naectegale Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Thanks for posting. I'm kinda relieved about this, I can't stand her music. Me too Is it wrong to not want Mika to bask in the reflected glory of the biggest current pop star in the world by collaborating with her?
Lena Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 There is too) http://www.contactmusic.com/news.nsf/story/mika-wants-dog-on-tour_1159424
Christine Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Is it wrong to not want Mika to bask in the reflected glory of the biggest current pop star in the world by collaborating with her? No, I agree. I used to like the idea of them doing something together from an artistic standpoint. But now it would just look like he's riding on her coattails which is absurd since she used to go to his gigs when the world had never heard of her.
mgpm Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Part of this story made it on to the "Wonderwall" entertainment site in the US. I was very chuffed indeed to pull up my homepage and see a headline "Mika wants dog on tour"!!!! Here's the way it looks on Wonderwall. http://wonderwall.msn.com/movies/mika-wants-dog-on-tour-1568056.story The funny thing about this is.... when I met Mika the first time, in Washington, DC., he talked about his tamigotchi that died because he didn't feed it/take care of it. Then a little later he was talking about getting a dog. I kind of mockingly said "Oh No!" and he said, "What?" I said, "I hope it doesn't turn out like your tamigotchi!" And he laughed and said, no...of course he'd have someone look after it, if he got one. SO glad he's getting some press in the United States!!!!!
vanessa Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 A dog is not a toy. Be careful, Mika. I agree .Dogs are naughtier than babies
Little Cloud Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 T4P. I love it. Anyway I don’t like Lady Gaga!
IngeGOLDEN Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Great one, T4P WTF does he mean he's played America "almost twice"? That America should be excited cause he's coming your way soon?
Sarahlou1973 Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 Oh thanks for that. WTF does he mean he's played America "almost twice"? Sound like another 'Mika-ism' to me.... On a more serious note, is it good for animals to be jetting around in aeroplanes to different parts of the world and timezones etc? Dogs need routine and, I will probably get shot down for saying this, but I'm not sure Mika has thought this through from an animal welfare point of view. Yes, we've all gone gooey (me included) over the adorable pics and a dog is a great companion to have, but it's a two-way relationship. I'm not sure what would be worse from the dog's p.o.v. being left with strangers for weeks/months at a time or constantly being hauled around the world in a cold aeroplane hold. I suppose the fact that he is training her from a young age helps, but I still feel a bit uneasy about it. Dogs require commitment and they depend on us - please don't let dear Melachi down.. Just my opinion.

Just my opinion. No, I totally agree with you. And I may be wrong but didn't we used to have quarantine laws in the UK? I mean I know it's relaxed now for Europe if you have a doggie passport, but don't we still have them for other countries? And for the record, I really would hate to put my cats in a crate in the hold of an aircraft. I'd only do it if I was emigrating and couldn't drive. It just seems cruel to me.
mgpm Posted August 20, 2010 Posted August 20, 2010 I've had a couple of dogs and I think it is kind of mad to think you can take a PUPPY on tour, but perhaps if he has enough support and training, it'll be OK. Goldens are pretty lovely gentle ones, so perhaps it will work out. But perhaps not. I know Mika is loving and kind and if it isn't working out he'll see that and make other arrangements. I trust him. xo And OH HEAVENS YES, PLEASE come back to the US!!! And work on the new music!!! I don't like Gaga so much....it does make me feel somewhat better towards her to know that Mika likes her as a person---I value his opinion. I DO like "Alejandro" it's very catchy--although I think the video is horrid. I'm glad they aren't going to collaborate, though.

I agree, I would never consider putting my beloved pets in such a situation unless it was absolutely necessary. I don't even like making them sleep on the floor!!

I think there are other countries that will qualify but how far do you want to take a dog on a short trip anyway? Like you said putting them in cargo hold all the time seems cruel. I wouldn't want to do it for more than a couple of hours just so they could keep me company. I think feeling lonely when you're on tour with 50 other people, including friends and family, is not sufficient enough reason to be dragging a large dog from pillar to post.

That's exactly what I was trying to say

But then again, he could be talking right out of his arse. I wonder what will happen in practice? If he's driving around Europe I guess it could work. But even in Europe it's not always practical to drive from place to place as you see when Mika tours. Sometimes he does but other times if it's too far, he flies. I bet when it comes down to it, he leaves the dog at home with a "friend". That's my prediction. * Edit: Amazed I can say arse here
