Origin of Love - Song and Lyrics Discussion

I don't think about it as a Mika video, maybe that's why I like it. It's a short film, a complicated love story with a happy ending. I love these kind of movies and I wouldn't mind to watch this one if it was a real movie :pinkbow:

My opinion is that we should watch the little films and try to understand that Mika wanted them to match his songs.

Then we cannot like them or not, but we should try to understand the work behind them.

It's the same reaction over and over again: we think we figure Mika out, and when he does not match the idea we have of him or his art, we just push him away.

I do the same, but I'd like not to, and try to understand.

This is exactly what I think! Couldn't say it any better :huglove::wink2:

Short film aside, I think the album version is the one we listened at the playback session in Milan (maybe someone can confirm).

The version he played on radio with Jo Whiley was shorter, as we know. Btw I also think there will be a radio edit when the song will be out as a single, cause 4:37 min for a radio it's too much time :naughty:

Exactly!!!:thumb_yello: I would like to watch it as a movie! And only after I watched it 3 times I got the point and I like it.:teehee: BUT I would prefer it without the all nudity, I think it's too much...:aah:

omg I remember him with lollipops and dolls and stuff... what happened?! :aah::aah::mf_rosetinted:

We don't all have to like everything he does, do we? It would be a bit sad if we did. So he has fans that love him but are still critical of what he does. Sounds good to me.

But I'll stop moaning about the video now and let the people that love it share their excitement and fangurl over it. I wouldn't want to ruin anyone's MFC experience :mikalove:

:thumb_yello:

You're not ruining anything> Good see many feelings about it :wink2:

hmmm... this short film is... interesting. i like it for what it is, not as a music video or something Mika was even involved in, but as one director's interpretation of the song. i see it as similar to when Mika songs are in movies. i prefer it over the film for MYH, at least this one has a story (even if it's a bit non-sensical) xD

I'm really surprised how strongly this film divides people. For me it's a complicated little film which has a lot of layers (I have some new thoughts every time I watch it) and it's absurd but still really beautiful :wub2: I honestly moved to tears when I watched it for the first time, a strong, even shocking story with a happy end. It's not how I see Origin Of Love but I love watching it and this version of OOL is great! The combination is like a little piece of art given as an extra bonus :thumb_yello:

I strongly advise you to never ever watch a Dutch movie, any Dutch movie. You'd probably find it pornographic.

By the way, without wanting to give an opinion on whether Mika grew up or not, I don't think references to 'sex, drugs and rock&roll' make a person more grown up.

we are so overexposed to nudity here in italy that this film seems a virginal :naughty:

and yet, we don't have same sex marriages.

what a double standard! we find scandal in opposite fields than other countries.

I love the film to bits! I think it really adds to the song in an unusual way. The film's dark, even a bit creepy at times, while the song is full of joy and happiness. And as much as I love watching Mika in his videos I prefer these short films to the Celebrate video. :blush-anim-cl: They're the same thing he's done for ages: combining something joyful with something dark. This time it's just something visual combined with a song rather than his previous choice of dark lyrics and happy melodies.

LOL really? ok I won't :naughty:

yeah I agree, he just feel more free than ever to express his feelings, he said he's in a good place, he's really happy and in love (and love is a crazy thing, don't forget :naughty:), even felt comfortable to come out.. that's the most important thing for an artist and of course for him personally and I'm really happy for him :blush-anim-cl:

All he did I think is take the drug thing, and really expressed it!

Haha no, you should, you should watch any of the films that are based on Jan Wolkers's books ;)

I want to listen to the whole songs, on the whole album. But as we already know this one, I might just listen

ok, let me know what you think of this version :teehee:

I just received an email with this title so I think I know what's behind it. :mf_rosetinted:

BRAND NEW controversial Origin Of Love Film & Album Sampler

So you do not believe the story of Mika simply sending off directors with a few dollars to film whatever they pleased and not even checking the storyboard?

Same :blush-anim-cl: And I liked the "A Clockwork Orange" reference ;> When they try to make her hate love.

Indeed xD I watched a few of them this summer as my Dutch needs great improvements and well... In each movie, people always appeared at leats once naked. The 1st time, I was surprised but you get used to it, I guess :')

I have a small question for people who are waiting for the album before listening to samples etc... (if ever you're lurking around here like me :blush-anim-cl:) : did you watch the video? I'm hesitating. We know the song but not the final album version so I think I should follow my instinct not to listen to this either...

:aah: Existential questions we have as Mika fans...

I did watch it ;) I also watched the track-by-tracks and I saw the videos of "Kids" & "Step with me" taken in Amsterdam. Beside that, I haven't listened to any song I didn't already know ^_^

I'm pretty sure the uptight societies that can't handle nudity are not particularly pro-gay-marriage either. :wink2:

Ok I watched it. First of all, the music :biggrin2:

:yay: That's the perfect version I was hoping for. Same energy as the live version but with more electronic sounds, hum not sounds but voices actually, without losing soul. I'm delighted :original:

I like the video. I had just watched it and was starting thinking how to describe my feelings and I read that

I totally agree, although I wouldn't really say it's shocking, for me it's just a metaphor of love as a drug, but in a very strong way. It's a very nice work of art, it's amazing if you watch the film with Mika's song accompanying it but maybe not the other way around (hoping the film to suit the song perfectly)

so...what do you think of the film?

I haven't seen it yet since it's NSFW. In fact my work has decided that every video on the internet is not safe for work. :sneaky2: :sneaky2: :sneaky2:

It's just as well because I prefer to watch it with my stereo cranked up instead of the crappy headphones at work. :naughty:
