Very quick shared impressions:

- loved the venue and the organisation (friendly security, numbers...)

- first song was un soleil mal luné, rest of the setlist basically known

- choir was very good

- one random guy invaded stage and danced like mad

- M asked a girl from mfc (sorry, don't know your name) to come on stage and film the hearts

- show was great, some changes in some songs

- we got attacked by aggressive balloons and bubbles :naughty:

- rushed but lovely m&g with Mika

- really nice m&g with band members :wub2:

 

Now waiting for diet coke and a pizza please in our hotel.

This was amazing! I really should get some sleep, so even though I have no idea how I could possibly sleep right now, I'm going to try. If I don't fall asleep in the train tomorrow, I'll write a lengthy report then.

 

I still can't believe I was on that stage :blush-anim-cl::boing:

First of all: This venue is so amazing. All Belgian gigs should be in this venue from now on. :teehee:

 

Katrien and me arrived around 5.50 pm, Caroline, Celien, Joyce and a co-worker arrived a few minutes later and I instantly felt we were going to have a great night. We were standing in the queueu laughing, talking, being loud, generally having fun and joking around and of course talking about past gigs. It was so great to see each other again, had been quite a long time. Looking forward to the next gig already! :naughty: We quickly decided that we would all be sitting together. I had already been to this venue so I knew a nice place to sit. We had a great view, and most importantly an amazing overview of the crowd.

 

Some people were laughing with the bags but that didn't stop ANYONE from doing what was expected. Everyone had their balloon ready before the gig started. Man those things were hard to blow up. And for me even harder to tie a knot in. I had to ask for assistance from the lovely Joyce :naughty: When we were waiting, a few balloons were passed around with texts written on them like: "boo hoo, Mika is gay so isn't interested in girls : -(" and then on the back they had drawn some things :mf_rosetinted: Another balloon: "looking for a cute guy. Call *cell phone number*."

 

Anyway, the opening act was a dj set. A rather cute guy. It started out slow... He eventually started playing some real hits and the audience was starting to feel it, singing along so I KNEW it was going to be great. Before Mika came on, the audience had already been chanting his name.

 

The gig started out a bit slow imo. I thought it was much more "on fire" from the beginning in Roubaix but that probably had to do with the fact that Mika started with a different approach here! He came on in a very fancy suit including a bow tie and he started with comme un soleil mal luné!

 

The gig eventually exploded. It was clear Mika wasn't taking anything less than the type of gig we're used to in Belgium and he got what he wanted. There was so much interaction with the entire audience. Somewhere during the gig he wanted the lights on the people in the seats too because he couldn't see it. He then saw a girl doing a dance move and he wanted the entire venue to do her move during "drunk". Which was awesome. He said it looked so good from the stage that he pulled a girl up and made her film it all. Probably THE best song of the show.

 

Origin was another highlight. It was amazing with all the balloons. I'm sure you can imagine, the whole venue was like a sea of red hearts. Before he came back to do the encores, the audience was doing the "ooooh-oh-oh-oh-ooohhh" from 7 nation army from white stripes. When he came on again, he found it so funny that he decided to use it. He let the band play it for a bit and then he turned it into some type of medley with lollipop and WAG. During WAG he pulled up some guy from the audience who had some kick-ass moves and dito shirt!

 

All in all: great night, great people, great Mika.

The balloon project looked simply wonderful!! :wub2: Mika was kind of guiding people and made us dance (Drunk was so much fun!) and wave the balloons according to the music and it all looked really good. I was in the middle of crowd with Marion and Yulia and we had a great time. The view was good, and actually we were next to the family but as usual I didn't see them until it was over (Fortune is looking exactly like his older brother these day, btw, could hardly tell the difference when I saw him walking). Loved the choir as well! To tell the truth we can't hear the choir really well, maybe because the crowd is singing so loudly too, but it's a great addition to the show, imo and I can see how much people enjoy being a part of the show.

 

The security told my camera off once again :aah: but I filmed Origin and you can see the audience well and see how fab it all looked. My hotel connection is just really bad so I can't upload it. I came to the lobby and will try again, otherwise I must do it later, going to Vienna tonight. I have some other songs before the Origin as well but will upload them later, not time for that today.

 

Origin was the best part of the gig and my other favorites were Popular, which is so much better live than on album and Stardust (it's just :wub2:) and the new French song. He started with the French song and it's so beautiful :swoon: It was a surprise to me he started with it so took me a while to realize what's happening but loved it. He wasn't really chatty last night and maybe a bit nervous but he totally enjoyed the balloons and the venue was fantastic and offered a great view. The crowd wasn't that good in the beginning, maybe I just had such high expectations for the Belgian audience, but it waked up well and the end of show was crazy and I loved watching both Mika and the interaction with the audience.

 

Met a lot of lovely people last night. I was happy to meet you Droopsy and say hi (we haven't met for a while) even it was really quick! Also, I was so relieved Laurel and her friends were all in because I couldn't find her and sold my spare ticket a bit after 6 PM and just before they arrived (felt horrible to see there was one MFCer without a ticket but luckily he could find one and it all worked out). And I met Fran for the first time!!!! I don't know why but it felt like I already knew her like the other girls even it was the first time we met :wub2:

Doesn't he?? It's unbelievable, they look so much alike :shocked:

I didn't hear anyone from the choir either. Nor during the previous gig.

Yes I agree. It was no Antwerp, that's for sure. Okay, of course this venue was smaller but still. I thought it took quite a long time before the entire crowd was into it!

It was great to see you again and Katrien, Joyce, Caroline, Kate, Jolanda...!! I really hope that we can go to another Mikagig very soon :wub2: And indeed: queueing was so much fun :teehee:

 

Really, wow wow wow, a great show!!! M&G afterwards was quite chaotic but I'm very happy I have a signature on my cd :wub2:

@Nina: Thank you so much for posting the Origin of love video. Even though Wifi isn't working properly here I could just watch it and it brought back all the gig memories from last night. The heart shsped baloons looked so beautiful. I was actually really moved.

 

The "Drunk" choreography was the second highlight of the night for me. Hopefully someone filmed it from a similar perspective Nina filmed TOOL. It was so much fun.

 

Loved the whole gig. It was nice to hear "Un soleil mal luné" live - Such a beautiful song!

 

I totally agree with Droopsy. The venue is perfect. Excrpt that I probably wouldn't dare to buy tickets for the second level - way too steep!!

 

 

It's always a great decision to go to gigs in Belgium.

 

It was also lovely to wait for the band in the end. They are all so nice.

 

And Fortuné is really looking more and more like his brother - which is a good thing. :)

 

I really enjoyed talking to everyone in the queue and afterwards. That's one of the main reasons why I don't mind queuing early. :)

 

Kinda knackered now, so I'm glad a got a day to recover tomorrow before the Munich gig.
