They still wear same outfits ( Victoria wears a jacket on the green dress ).

With a little fear and uncertainty if I should say my opinion about yesterday's live show, because I don't want any polemics with anyone, I would like to do a few comments:

the harmony between the judges and/or the magic of editing is by now finished and strategies, discussions have dominated and extended the duration of the show. The competitors were very tense/nervous, emotional and have done performances with some mistakes, especially because there are so many very young boys and girls with little or no experience and because yesterday there was definitely a lot of fear of the debut. But Emma, Mario and Ilaria have done very good performances. That of Emma was very ironic and those of the last two were very touching. Mario (Garrucciu) has received the only standing ovation of the evening, for the intensity of the interpretation, with a beautiful and very difficult song by Lucio Dalla, one of our most beloved and important singers and songwriters. And here unfortunately Fedez sparked a controversy totally out of place, giving the song a non-existent political meaning (he thinks that it’s a communist song), even asking to cut the part: "con la forza di un pugno chiuso e di un sorriso" = "with the force of a clenched fist and a smile", because he didn't consider it appropriate to be sung there and for Mario.

The song is this : http://www.antiwarsongs.org/canzone.php?lang=it&id=10721 , and is usually given to it a pacifist meaning, but also has another key to understanding/way to interpret it, more personal for Lucio Dalla.

Alessandro Raina, the music producer chosen by Mika, explains:

“Without rhetoric has been very nice/wonderful to me and very exciting to collaborate airing/to broadcast this incredible song by Lucio Dalla, of which we have not edited a single word. After the partnership with Roversi here's all the great beauty of Lucio, a verse that talks about his difficult relationship with Rome, from which he escapes but in which he becomes aware of his own sexuality, and the return to Bologna, where, to paraphrase Battiato, the world returns to a more normal state/more normal conditions (http://www.antiwarsongs.org/canzone.php?lang=it&id=256).

I am proud of the fact that from now maybe someone will remember that Lucio Dalla was not just that of “Attenti al Lupo”, and “Caruso”, but also an author who could describe the early transgression of oral sex consumed between the alleys of a city not friendly with the delicacy of a design/drawing of Peynet.”

Il comunismo non c'entra, un pugno chiuso abbinato a un sorriso è forza per affrontare il futuro con umanità. Hai solo frainteso. @Fedez

Communism has nothing to do with it, a clenched/closed fist matched with a smile is strength to face the future with humanity. You just misunderstood. @Fedez

Apart from this “misunderstanding”, if we remove any reference political or socio-cultural to/from a song we eliminate 90% of the Italian repertoire of (cantautorale=) songwriting (and not only Italian, obviously). And rightly Mika was angry.

And honestly I liked Diluvio yesterday, more than The Wise, especially in the second song “La notte” by Arisa (who did her compliments to him, after the performance of her song, on twitter/facebook). Mika knew he was a very risky choice, but very brave in the attempt to propose something different, on a creative level, a rapper more good in the writing than as a singer. Obviously in the context of a talent show like X Factor, where the audience gives much more importance to the voice than to (also) other things was a very, very difficult bet. Unfortunately he was not given any chance, also because he needed to make a longer work with professionals like Mika and his collaborators in the program, to help him improve.Among other things, at least he had/has a recording project behind him, because he has a contract with Quadraro Basement, an indipendent record label that promoted/promotes other quite well known rappers and hip pop singers. I understand that a lot of people didn't like him, but the hatred and insults on social media were exaggerated. And the comment by Mara Maionchi: “egli era una pippa” “he was a (pippa = incapable person, of very limited intelligence, loser, incompetent, lacks the necessary qualities) wasn’t funny. At all.

Mi dispiace per #Diluvio ,so che non era una performance perfetta, ma era coraggiosa, non come la scelta dei miei colleghi

I'm sorry for #Diluvio, I know it was not a perfect performance, but it was brave, not like the choice of my colleagues

Things that I also didn't like :

the strategies (Morgan’s whispers in the ear of Victoria at the moment of the vote and subsequent handshake between the two "great friends", as seen in XDaily) and the hypocrisy (before they eliminated the rapper and then praised him, and Fedez finally told him that welcomed him into his record label!come on!).

And it was to be expected, although later, as part of the game, but honestly it was annoying, the other strategy against Mika: interrupt/heckle him, especially during the presentations of his competitors, with stupid comments and giggles and teasing/making fun of him for his, very few, pronunciation mistakes, to make him lose his concentration.

So the game is on.I hope Emma and Mario, who are very good, don't go in the final showdown for the judges' votes, because otherwise they will be eliminated.

I haven't watched any of the show yet, but have seen some stills, and I like the suit. What does everyone have against butterflies? I think they're beautiful!

I like them better this way than the all-over pattern we saw on one particular suit last year. I'm with you, Deb!

Mika veste Valentino Haute Couture -

Vestito, cravatta e camicia Valentino, primavera/estate 2015 . Photocourtesy of Valentino

Translated by *Vv* Thanks a lot !!!

As I promised, here's the translation of the Vogue article.

Enjoy it!

Mika dresses Valentino haute couture in the Xfactor live shows

The judge of the Sky talent show collaborated creating a one of a kind collection.

It will begin on Thursday on Sky one XFactor: the musical talent show followed by many people (and the most twitted Italian show ever).

The day before the start we had a chat with one of the most appreciated judges according to the Italian public: Mika, prodigious 31 years old, English-Lebanese singer who leads the over 25 team, who told us, in perfect Italian, his passion:

"concerning the search of Style. I love well-dressing, I think it's a kind of Art". For this reason he fully collaborated with Valentino: "during Xfactor I'm going to dress only with taylor-made suits made by Valentino Haute Couture. Amazing. Man suits specifically handmade by people working in women atelier. Each suit requires a lot of craft work, first thing to be done is the taylor-made pattern which is then pulled apart. Each suit requires more than 200 pieces that are then combined together."

It's a project made to measure for Mika, it takes inspiration from new dandy with much bright embroidering who says: "looks like a Fortunato Depero painting with a hint of Jean Cocteau and ballets russes. I think that today it's more punk dressing with a suit than wearing rip up jeans.

We don't have to be afraid of putting to much poetry in suits, looking male at the same time: shirt, suit, tie."

The singer tells to have worked very close with Maria Grazia Chiuri e Pierpaolo Piccioli, the maison creative directors. This collaboration was born in Paris one year ago when Mika was working for The Voice France,"great, I can learn a lot from them, they have an incredible culture. To them suits tell different stories and worlds but are still fashion dresses without turning into theatrical costumes.

Stories to tell are also his three talents of his Xfactor team: "this year will be really brave and we'll risk a lot. My singers will be three reconteurs. We'll choose songs that are very close to their life. Emma reminds me of Nina Simone. Diluvio is my personal hazard, rap in Italian. Mario is a raconteurs as well, but he's closer to George Moustaki".

Excuse me for popping in here again, I'm not watching and not a fan as you know, but I am very pleased you have brought these topics up, as they have a massive bearing on why Mr Cowell said he created the show in the first place.

I remember the first interviews Simon did when the show was starting out, and the trailers made for tv where he said he was looking for people who had what is known as the X Factor, something in them, their personality that would project through their performance of a song, that would capture an audience.

Sadly through the years this seems to have been lost, as now it seems that sob stories and mediocre performances are more acceptable to the general tv audience (and some judges throughout the whole X Factor universe), rather than something that truly captures peoples attention and imagination. It does seem from what you are saying, that Mika is trying to bring that into his choice this year, and this is the sort of thing that if implemented across the board, just might get my attention to start watching. But it would mean Cowell getting down off his high horse and going right back to what he said he wanted originally, before his ego got the better of him and trying to re brand pop music in his own mediocre image.

Also you say this chap would was voted out has a record contract already, am I correct?

Then this is another reason I am against the show.

It is supposed to help people (or at the beginning it was) to get a record contract, because they are unsigned struggling performers. If they have a contract already, what the hell are they doing auditioning in the first place?!If they aren't signed and get one from their performance on the show, all well and good. But if they have a pre existing contract and go all the way, its denying those who don't, and who may be equally as good, their chance, and I feel that is totally unacceptable.

As for the judging tactics, this is one of my major reasons for disliking the show, IT'S NOT ABOUT THEM! All the game playing that they do, and from what I read on Twitter, it's done in all the other countries too, WAAAY too much in the UK version as well. It's NOT a game for the judges to play, it's supposed to be a talent show, to find the best singer, no matter WHO'S team they are on. So when I see this tactical nonsense happening, I get really angry, the judges need to leave their egos at the door and be objective about their choices, and STOP the game playing!

First of all, I'm happy my comments are helpful to someone.:original:

I agree with you.Mika understands the need to make courageous choices and non-obvious, and also not popular. The problem of talent shows, and this one in particular, is that of to address and satisfy the public overwhelmingly made up of teenage girls,13-14 year olds, very active in social media, who absolutely have no musical culture and are fans of what is more "trendy" and sponsored/publicized at the moment, for example here Fedez and One Direction. And record companies panders to them with much more commercial choices.Someone said that our greatest and most important singers-songwriters, not good-looking and with particular voices, but with so much heart, poetry, socially/politically engaged texts and a real personality, now they would have no chance, because the record companies would not invest on them.Unfortunately I agree.

About the judges, yes, their egos seems to be more important than the future of these guys. For some of them is really a unique opportunity.

In XF8, Morgan is Morgan, and he wants always to win with his usual strategies, from eight years.Fedez is a very ("furbo") sly/cunning, ambitious and aggressive guy, Victoria lets herself be influenced by Morgan, at least until now.Mika tries to be objective, and it's obvious that he was very disappointed with certain behaviors and comments of his colleagues, not so much toward him but to the competitors. He is trying to make courageous, risky, non-obvious and banal choices, respecting the characteristics of his team's competitors. Lucio Dalla's song was one of these and give Diluvio a chance with something very innovative and definitely not popular was the other.I hope he'll continue in this way.Emma and Mario are very good, but not obvious for this show, and the music market in Italy, especially now.

It may seem so, but things are very complicated.

He has a contract with a very, very small independent label (this: http://www.quadrarobasement.com/quadraro_basement/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44&Itemid=5), which has little power at national level and in fact they try to raise awareness of young artists through the TV shows, because otherwise they would not have any promotion. He wasn't the only one, there were other competitors who already had a contract with small record labels. They try to introduce themselves and their music in this way to a big audience because it seems to be the only way.The majors and the important record companies aren't interested in the search (and promotion) of young talents anymore, only in those more commercial and that they can manipulate. The prize is a big contract with a major, but only one can win it, so the possibility to sing in a big program is very important. They are struggling exactly like the unsigned performers, unfortunately.I think it's better for them having a project, because after, regardless of winning or not, you end up in into the fray and confusion, in the real word of music. It 's no coincidence that only one winner of this show has been really successful in Italy: Marco Mengoni.

Sorry for the long explanation!!

I've got to say I had a hard time going through it all until the end and couldn't keep the focus without getting distracted every 10 seconds. I thought it were just a problem with the auditions episodes but nope. Can't seem to manage to bring myself to enjoy it this year. Many contestants are good, so I guess it is just me, I just got too much of a... thing with last year's season and I become bored easily just like a kid. Sorry for the depressing comment, I don't want to spoil the mood so ignore it and HAVE FUN! :aah:
