Lyrics:

Oh here I go again

I wake up every morning to this Groundhog Day
Thinking about the list of things that I’ve done wrong
Can’t even count, it goes on too long

I try to change my ways
I feel like I’m the villain in some crappy play
The book has long been written, but I’d rather be
Just about anyone else but me, I hope you see

It doesn’t mean I’m not a fighter
It's just that I wanna be a little lighter
Spent so long fixing things I’ve done
I’ve got holes in all my pockets
Even those holes, they’ve got pockets
Hiding things that’ll never see the sun

I’m taking off, going to Rio
I’m getting lost to find an alter-ego
It could be Paris or Berlin, I don’t care what state I’m in
Gonna leave it all behind
Maybe I’ll be myself when I’m somebody else

This is not an invitation, I’m going to Rio
This is not a conversation, say goodbye to me-oh

Maybe in ten years time
You’ll receive a letter from some random guy
You’ll like him so much better
But then you will see, he’s not a stranger it’s only me

I can only be myself as somebody else

'Cause you got sun, I got bad weather
Anything you can lose I can lose better
Do my best with what life gave to me
I’ve got holes in all my pockets
Even those holes, they’ve got pockets
Hiding things that I sure want to leave

I’m taking off, going to Rio
I’m getting lost to find an alter-ego
It could be Paris or Berlin, I don’t care what state I’m in
Gonna leave it all behind
Maybe I’ll be myself when I’m somebody else

This is not an invitation, I’m going to Rio
This is not a conversation, say goodbye to me-oh

Give me a peanut and I’ll turn blue
I can't even eat the things you do
Bake you a cake and I burn it up twice
I roll thirteen on a pair of dice

Give me a peanut and I’ll turn blue
I can't even eat the things you do
Bake you a cake and I burn it up twice
I roll thirteen on a pair of dice

I’m taking off, going to Rio
I’m getting lost to find an alter-ego
It could be Paris or Berlin, I don’t care what state I’m in
Gonna leave it all behind
Maybe I’ll be myself when I’m somebody else

This is not an invitation, I’m going to Rio
This is not a conversation, say goodbye to me-oh
This is not an invitation, I’m going to Rio
This is not a conversation, say goodbye to me-oh

Brilliant lyrics. Did Mika write them all? :teehee: It sound very much like Barenaked Ladies or Lily Allen.

Written by MIKA, Nina Woodford, Jarrad Kritzstein & Crucial

Sounds like a lot of fun, this song!

My first thought was actually "This is very Barenaked Ladies" ...even the melody  :teehee:

A lighthearted song! The lyrics are funny, my favourite parts are

I’ve got holes in all my pockets
Even those holes, they’ve got pockets

and

Bake you a cake and I burn it up twice
I roll thirteen on a pair of dice

very clever!!

I think my favourite part's the "Maybe I'll be myself when I'm somebody else".  :) probably melodically more than anything

I love that line. I mean, I have felt  that way before. And not all that long ago.  :naughty:

Interestingly, I played the album for my husband today (he's not the biggest Mika fan, as you might imagine), and this was his favorite song.

Can someone please explain me the "I've got holes in my pocket and even those holes they got pockets" meaning? I don't really understand it :( is it something like "Money is burning holes in pocket? Sorry I'm not a native speaker :) Edited by Minh Anh

hey everyopone, heres youtube link but I think the voice is changed a little so can anyone tell me where can I listen in original? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVQ5UwyqOag

Yes, it is faster than the original one. I have been listening to it on vk, but I am not sure if it's the right thing to do. I will get my album only Monday and couldn't wait.. :fisch:

i take it as meaning that the holes in his pockets have been there for so long that they had time to grow pockets of their own.
