2015 - Place du Casino, Monte Carlo, Monaco - 29 Aug - REPORTS/PICS/VIDEOS

The thing appeared sketchy since the very beginning, no one knew what this “Exclusive Dance Floor” was really about. We only knew we would have had access to it. Rumors were spread, hypotesis were done, and the mystery about the legendary Exclusive thingy arose. It was my duty to go and find it out, so I told Sarah to pack and we planned this trip on a very short notice. Thank god she can do logistics pretty well. Her bday happens to be on the 29th of August, every year, so yeah, it made quite an awesome happy Bday gift.

A very good one  really   :thumb_yello:  :mf_rosetinted:  :hi5:  :cheer:  :fangurl: thank you Sylvie again !!!

:puking:

The audience DID want an encore, but it was totally clear that we wouldn't have got one. As I said, I don't now if it was about the schedule or about the tech issues, but Mika left and the roadies started to unplug things right away. Of course that at that point no one asked for an encore anymore.

Some guy who was there commented saying everyone asked for an encore but the technicians had already started removing stuff so there was no way because of that ...and I commented as well...we can't let them spread false information!!!!!

Hi everyone

This is my small report (as usual ) from Montecarlo Night.

First of all this time I was there with 2 friends of mine not very fond of Mika (but now they are!!!!) so I had to manage the evening just before the  gig playing slots machine at Cafè de Paris  and..I won 50 euro  :naughty:

Then as I won the pass for me and my friends we get on the dancefloor and luckily there where some non conventional seats so we waited sat down until Mika appeared..then we immediately stand up and started to dance. The gig was not perfect with the audio but I didn't care, he was so full of energy and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Here are some pics

They say the audience didn't want an encore?? Why would they say that? That's so wrong! It was really made clear there won't be an encore. Mika left and they started the background music and carried the set away. That's always the sign there won't be an encore even if people ask.

DO NOT read this report if you are interested in Mika only, as you would get disappointed.

Oh you know I just want random gossip instead :naughty:

Here's what I would have done: everybody who would have gone to the Café de Paris would have got their name checked on the list, got a wristband and bye. An official gate would have been set since the morning for those who wanted to wait there. At 20 p.m. I would have opened the gate and let wristbands people in. Easy peasy.

You know what anyone would have done if they had been planning to have a dance floor at 8 pm? They would have given people wristbands at 7:45 pm and let them onto the dancefloor at 8. Because people who are going somewhere to dance and have guaranteed entry do not need to queue up for 12 hours beforehand

Why would the organizers assume that people were only there to cling to the stage all night and would queue up for 12 hours in advance when the whole idea was for it to be a dance floor? Why would they have made plans to deal with fans waiting around for hours and hours in advance for no rational reason? I don't understand how this is anyone's fault except the people who turned up many many hours before they were supposed to. When you get passes to a dancefloor at 8 pm, you show up at 8 pm and dance. Easy peasy. :naughty:

I'm not shocked, I'm just annoyed as I was there so I take it personal.

I get your point, but it's their job to know how fans behave and how to deal with that. If they expected people to show up at 8 p.m. , they were naive. It is what it is, and they have to deal with reality.

And it's not like I think they HAD to plan things better. I'm not complaining, or blaming someone, as I was fine with whatever. But they just could have.

They wouldn't have got bad reviews on-line and they wouldn't have struggled taming the beast. Everybody wins.

I don't think they enjoyed to have to deal with confused, stressed people, and they surely prefer good advertising than rumors about them being unable to handle things properly, even when it's not their fault.

Sometimes you get the blame even when you are not guilty. Bad reviews just spread, no matter what.

How is it their job to know that Mika fans behave completely IRRATIONALLY? Be honest, if you had just discovered Mika last week (in other words never had any contact with other Mika fans) and decided to go to Monte Carlo with these passes would you have shown up to wait to get onto the dance floor before 7 or 8 pm? I would never dream of doing that for another artist and the only reason it even occurs to me where Mika is concerned is because I know his fans behave in this completely irrational way. The naive thing is expecting organizers of a free dance event to predict and accommodate the irrational behaviour of Mika fans.

I think giving wristbands at 7.45 pm and letting in 8 pm would have been fine. Instead they told people asking the schedule several opposite information (like to get wristbands in advance in the cafe etc). It wasn't about a small group of overexcited Mika fans. It was soon hundreds and eventually 5000 people waiting the show at a small square, no one knowing what was going to happen. The wristband people somewhere in the crowd not able to move. Well no one was able to move and the security seemed to be annoyed because things didn't go smoothly. For example they moved barriers several times and expected hundreds of people to move at the same time. It doesn't happen that way. They should plan in advance what is the best place to put their barriers. It's not easy to move them when the place is packed. August is probably the busiest tourist season in the area and the event was advertised in a big way everywhere in Nice, Menton and Monaco etc. For me it simply looked they hadn't planned the event properly :dunno: After getting inside of the dance floor area I was really happy because the area was small and everyone could see well! Afterwards a lot of people left so there was a plenty of space to go to the casino. I was so grateful I had managed to win the pass and had a lot of fun during the night  :)

I guess the sensible thing would have been to not have any barriers. Just leave the square open for random people to wait for the concert and then have the VIPs/dancefloor people enter from the side. Having a gig in the middle of a driveway is a completely stupid idea in the first place IMO. :naughty:

I always wonder how other singers' fans behave. I expect it to be quite similar, this is why I also expect security to be prepared.

I have never seen this behaviour anywhere for any artist ever. Besides these public concerts and festivals that have been going on this summer are not for hardcore Mika fans. I don't know why fans expect it to be organized like Mika's headline gigs or for other people in the audience to act like people at a Mika gig. It's just not the same thing and no one at these things is going to give a toss about typical Mika fan behaviour and etiquette.

Yes, Place du Casino must be very challenging as a venue. I mean it's super special because the buildings and area are so fancy but it's not like usual open area venues. It's very complicated shape (with driveways, a giant fountain in the middle and two different VIP areas in front of stage) and controlling big crowds there must be much more difficult than in average.
