Salva英 Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Bonjour tout le monde ! My name is Salva and I am a Spanish-born boy who moved to the United Kingdom at age 8. I’ve lived in London for 10 years, and after getting my A-Levels I moved out to Paris in order to become an interpreter/translator. I speak fluent Spanish (it’s my mother tongue) and English has always been like a second mother tongue: I’ve been raised bilingual. At school, I discovered my passion for French and Chinese, so those are the languages I chose at University. As you can imagine (this is my 7th year studying la langue de Molière) my French is OK but still needs improving obviously. I speak English with a strong British accent, just like Mika does (his accent is highly British, sorry if you don’t agree with me). Recently, I’ve been told by many French people that I look like Mika when I talk (in French, I mean)! I always say that it is in fact impossible, as his French is pretty much better than mine. I’ve been told more than 4 times that my accent in French looks like Mika’s, which leads me to the next question: does Mika really have an accent in French or does he actually sound completely standard? thanks for answering, merci de m’avoir répondu, je salue tous les francophones qui sont inscrits à ce site ! Salva xx 6
dcdeb Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Hello, Bonjour, Hola to Salva! Welcome to MFC, we're happy to have you here. I've moved this post to our "Introductions" section as it's your first here and I think you've done a good job of introducing yourself! I don't speak French very well at all, so I couldn't really say whether he has an accent when he speaks that language, but I'm sure there are many others here who will have strong opinions on the subject and will enjoy discussing it with you! 2 1
giraffeandy Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 I unfortunately don't speak French so I can't help you but it seems that many Mika fans share a passion for languages. I'm studying translation and interpreting studies too. 1
Mikasister Posted June 9, 2018 Posted June 9, 2018 Hola, Salva y bienvenido. Espero que disfrutes de tu estancia por aquí. Mika también hablaba bien el español, incluso lo hacía más bonito pero desde que está con el italiano olvidó su dulce español. Nos vemos por el foro. 1
Hello Salva and welcome here! Mika has a very slight accent when he speaks French, even if he expresses himself very well in this language (as in all the others ^^). What makes the difference is that he still has English turns when he expresses himself. But it is a large part of his charm that no one wants to see him lose! So if people say you sound like him, that's a good compliment! Si tu veux il y a un thread français: 2

Quand je l’entends parler le français je peux voir qu’il le fait avec la même intonation qu’en anglais (laquelle je suis censé faire aussi). 1
Salva英 Posted June 9, 2018 Author Posted June 9, 2018 Merci à tous ! Vous êtes très aimables ! Thank you everyone! You’re all so kind x 2

C'est surtout le placement des mots dans la phrase et certaines expressions qu'il utilise comme s'il parlait anglais. It is mainly the placement of words in the sentence and certain expressions that he uses as if he spoke English. 1

I think it depends...if he is in England he will sound more British, if he stays a long time in Italy he will sound Italian, when he speaks French sometimes he uses English structures as @Loo said so it gives funny results other times his French is great but sometimes he uses slang words or speaks like a ten years old so it's unexpected and cute And welcome to MFC @Salva英 Edited July 29, 2018 by crazyaboutmika 1
