Nous l’avons suivi mercredi dans les coulisses de la chaîne info. Par François Rousseaux Le 10 novembre 2019 à 07h00, modifié le 10 novembre 2019 à 10h51 Il a porté toutes les casquettes. Animateur télé, producteur, intervieweur, de Canal + à France 3, d'Europe 1 à RTL… Et jure « avoir trouvé sa place » à la tête de BFMTV depuis le 1er juillet. Marc-Olivier Fogiel a troqué la lumière des projecteurs pour l'ombre du bureau de directeur général de la chaîne d'information sur laquelle s'arrêtent chaque jour 9 millions de Français. « BFM est un TGV lancé à pleine allure qui ne s'arrête pas en gare et dans lequel il a réussi à sauter », s'amuse son bras droit, Céline Pigalle. Patron de 350 salariés, celui qu'on appelle désormais ici « Marc-Olivier », et non « Marco », reçoit 100 SMS et autant de mails par jour. Patrick Drahi, patron du groupe Altice (SFR, BFM…), lui a fixé la ligne : « rester numéro un et progresser ». Après une rentrée chahutée, quand Orange a temporairement coupé le signal de la chaîne, Marc-Olivier Fogiel prend ses marques, jonglant entre réunions et imprévus, les yeux vissés sur ses deux téléphones portables et l'écran télé. Nous l'avons suivi ce mercredi 6 novembre dans les coulisses de BFMTV. 9 heures. La journée de Marc-Olivier Fogiel a commencé à 6h15, par une « piquouse » d'info, radio et tablette sur BFMTV. Premiers échanges mails avec ses équipes. A peine ses deux filles déposées à l'école, il arrive dans son bureau vitré du XVe arrondissement de Paris, et fait changer un mot en bas de l'écran. Sur France Inter, la ministre de la Justice, Nicole Belloubet, vient de déclarer que les quotas d'immigration n'étaient pas la « seule réponse », et émet un bémol à la politique gouvernementale. A l'antenne de BFMTV, « les doutes » de la ministre deviennent « la fracture au gouvernement », puis… « le couac ». 9h33. « Les quotas obligatoires, est-ce que ça marche? Ce serait bien de faire un éclairage », suggère Fogiel lors de la conférence de rédaction. Et laisse sa directrice Céline Pigalle détailler le programme. « Tu penses que Nicole Belloubet peut rétropédaler? », demande-t-il à celle qui veut décrocher les interviews d'autres femmes, l'actrice Adèle Haenel ou Rachida Dati. Fogiel, en retrait, pianote sur son portable aux près de 2000 contacts pour tenter d'en savoir plus sur le procès de l'affaire Hallyday. Et appuie l'idée d'un reportage sur le cancer. « Les sujets de la vie de tous les jours doivent avoir leur place sur BFMTV, en plus de l'économie ou la politique. J'amène cette sensibilité-là aussi ». 10 heures. Réunion budgétaire. « C'est pas très compliqué, mais c'est une adaptation. Quand je dirigeais ma boîte de production, j'étais mon propre patron. Aujourd'hui, je dois rendre des comptes au quotidien ». BFMTV, 70 millions d'euros de budget, est la seule chaîne d'info rentable. Il refuse de donner des chiffres. Pourtant très confortables d'après nos informations : 30 millions d'euros de bénéfices annuels en 2017 et 2018. 10h56. Une nouvelle femme surprend l'actualité : Catherine Deneuve. La cheffe du service culture, Candice Mahout, débarque dans le bureau de Marc-Olivier Fogiel et confirme son hospitalisation. « C'est une info. Mais il ne faut pas surréagir », prévient-il. Le cabinet de Nicole Belloubet vient d'appeler la rédaction, goûtant peu que son intervention soit assimilée à un « couac ». « Ca, c'est notre quotidien », évacue le patron. Cinq heures plus tard, recadrée par Emmanuel Macron, la ministre fera une mise au point. 11h03. Les audiences tombent. La veille encore, BFMTV arrive en tête des chaînes d'info, avec 2 % de parts de marché, devant celles qui tournent en boucle dans son bureau : CNews (0,8 %), LCI (0,8 %) et France Info (0,5 %). Mais Fogiel ne les regarde pas en rivales. « J'en tiens compte, mais ce sont d'autres formats. Il n'y a pas d'équivalent à notre modèle. On est une chaîne d'info, pas d'opinion. Notre concurrent, c'est nous-mêmes, il faut qu'on soit bon, c'est tout. ». En moyenne, les téléspectateurs de BFMTV ont 57 ans. « Le soir, 80 % de notre public a moins de 50 ans. C'est l'inverse des autres », selon lui. 12h02. Fogiel rejoint en studio Thomas Misrachi, présentateur du « Live BFM ». Une tranche qu'il a remodelée : moins de débats, plus de reportages et de pédagogie. « On fait de l'info, on ne se disperse pas. Je veux des tranches identifiées ». Et moins d'éditorialistes, dont certaines paroles radicales ont émaillé la rentrée. « Je ne veux pas du spectacle pour du spectacle », défend-il, dans une chaîne qui a pourtant été fer de lance en la matière. Et dont il conteste vouloir assagir l'image, comme le suspecte en coulisses LCI. « On n'est pas dans une entreprise de réhabilitation. BFM portait un chapeau un peu trop grand, et était le bouc émissaire des critiques faites aux chaînes d'info, parce qu'elle est leader. Depuis la rentrée, certains débats ailleurs ont suscité des polémiques, une autre réalité est alors apparue ». Son prédécesseur au poste, Hervé Beroud, à présent directeur général délégué d'Altice Média, appuie : « Il a évité les pièges de la rentrée, quand d'autres ont foncé sur l'immigration et le voile. Ici, la décision de ne pas diffuser le discours d'Eric Zemmour a été prise en une seconde. » 14h15. Direction l'Assemblée nationale, pour une audition avec d'autres responsables des médias. Sujet ? Le secret de l'instruction, au cœur d'une mission d'information des députés. Face à eux, Marc-Olivier Fogiel défend « le droit à l'information et la nécessité de plus de transparence ». 16 heures. Pendu au téléphone, Fogiel reçoit des nouvelles de Catherine Deneuve. L'actrice a été victime d'un accident vasculaire ischémique limité. « Allez, vas-y ! », lance-t-il à Candice Mahout, qui rejoint le plateau pour livrer les dernières informations sur la santé de la star. 16h30. En comité de direction, le patron martèle sa priorité, renforcer la lisibilité de la grille. Il n'y a pas eu de révolution Fogiel : « Je fais des ajustements au fil de l'eau, le but n'était pas la transformation absolue ». Ses principaux faits d'armes? Un bandeau d'info en bas de l'écran « plus accrocheur, mais pas trash ». Le « Tonight Bruce Infos », de Bruce Toussaint de 22 heures à minuit. « Il m'a accompagné deux soirées dans l'oreillette, et me donnait du rythme », apprécie l'animateur. Débaucher Alain Duhamel de RTL. « Marco donne de la vie là où il est », confie l'éditorialiste de 79 ans qui a accepté « pour lui ». Enfin, les interviews de Luc Besson ou Christine Lagarde. Eric Zemmour ne s'est pas finalement pas installé chaque vendredi pour 12 minutes de débat face à Duhamel. « Je n'ai aucun regret qu'il ne soit pas ici. Surtout depuis sa condamnation et son discours à la « convention de la droite ». S'il était venu chez nous une fois par semaine, on se serait posé la question de continuer ». 17h45. Confidences. Oui, jure Fogiel, il aime son nouveau rôle. « Mais moi qui aime contrôler les choses en amont, j'ai l'impression de courir en permanence après quelque chose. Je me réveille à 2 heures du matin en pensant à un mail auquel je n'ai pas répondu. Ma marge de progression est dans le plaisir ». Est-il toujours en phase de transition ? « Non, je ne cherche pas ma place, évidente », rétorque-t-il. Et concède : « J'ai l'impression de ne pas connaître encore suffisamment bien BFMTV, d'avoir tous les automatismes ». Avant de lister ses projets : installer son bureau au cœur de la rédaction, recevoir les présentateurs en tête à tête, changer l'habillage de l'émission politique dominicale… Et « gérer son Instagram différemment ». Un regret en allusion à sa photo postée avec Mika dans les coulisses du JT de 20 heures de TF1, qui a fait grincer des dents en interne.
