Il concertone di Radio Italia a Palermo è stato un successo. Cinquantamila persone hanno partecipato al grande evento gratuito, organizzato al Foro Italico, il più grande evento live della musica italiana. Una scaletta ricca di grandi Nomi: Ghali, Benji e Fede, Paola Turci, Takagi e Ketra con Giusi Ferreri, Fabrizio Moro, Nek, Achille Lauro, Fiorella Mannoia, Rocco Huny, Thegiornalisti, Irama e Mahmood.

Presente anche un grande ospite internazionale: Mika, che ha regalato a tutti un’esibizione carica di energia. Proprio Mika, dal grande palco, ha pronunciato alcune frasi in lingua siciliana, stupendo i presenti. Così, ha raccontato un aneddoto che lo lega alla Sicilia.

 

 

Il cantante ha spiegato che ha imparato a parlare italiano grazie a una ragazza palermitana. La giovane, a sorpresa, è stata invitata sul palco da Mika, che l’ha così presentata al pubblico. In appena due mesi è riuscita a insegnargli l’italiano e, in occasione del concertone, gli ha suggerito una frase in dialetto, che ha mandato ancora di più il pubblico in visibilio.

Nella calle Pod Voltun in Cittavecchia, nei pressi del Parco archeologico, si svolgono le riprese del video musicale della grande stella britannica Mika, molto amato in Italia per le sue apparizioni in diversi show televisivi e come giudice di talent. Da quanto appreso dai produttori del video, che dovrebbe uscire entro la fine del mese, a scegliere Fiume come location (al posto dell’Avana, capitale di Cuba) è stato il regista dello spot, W. I. Z., già autore di video per stelle del calibro di David Bowie e gruppi come Oasis e Massive Attack.

 

Il video è ambientato negli anni Cinquanta del secolo scorso in una città costiera italiana e promuove la tolleranza e l’amore verso le minoranze sessuali. E non a caso: Mika (pseudonimo di Michael Holbrook Penniman Jr.), infatti, è fidanzato con il regista Andreas Dermanis. I due fanno coppia fissa da oltre dieci anni anche se della loro storia d’amore non si sa molto, in quanto entrambi preferiscono mantenere la loro relazione lontana dai riflettori.

Mika continua le anticipazioni sul suo nuovo album pubblicando un’altra canzone intitolata SANREMO. “La canzone è proprio dedicata alla prima città che ho visitato in Italia, è una cartolina della mia infanzia. Parla delle vacanze che facevamo in famiglia, quando eravamo ospiti in Costa Azzurra da una zia che ci faceva un po’ pesare la nostra presenza. Allora mia mamma caricava sulla sua auto tutti noi bambini e le sue amiche e ci portava in gita a Sanremo, che costava meno ed era accogliente per una famiglia bohémien come la nostra. Dall’idea di evasione di quelle gite, è nata l’ispirazione di Sanremo. Questa canzone si può riferire a qualsiasi persona che cerchi compagnia, abbia bisogno di un attimo per stare bene, rilassarsi con un aperitivo in riva al mare, trovare nuova gioia. Sanremo è anche la prima città in cui abbia mai cantato in Italia, mi sono esibito al Festival una settimana prima che uscisse il mio primo album, per cui il legame è ancora più forte”.

In attesa di scoprire l’album per intero, sono già uscite la hit estiva Ice Cream, l’enigmatica e struggente Tiny Love e appunto Sanremo. Sono già usciti i video delle prime due, mentre il video di Sanremo è stato girato lo scorso week-end e sarà presto disponibile. Di prossima pubblicazione sono Dear Jealousy e Tomorrow. Quest’ultima sarà il singolo ufficiale di lancio dell’album.

Per l’esordio di questo minitour americano — New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal e Città del Messico — Mika non ha scelto un teatro di Manhattan ma Brooklyn Steel a Williamsburg, il borgo che da anni attrae come un magnete giovani e artisti della Mela. E sono soprattutto ragazzi — americani, tanti europei, moltissimi asiatici — quelli che si entusiasmano e ballano in questo capannone industriale trasformato in arena davanti a un cantante scatenato che fa esplodere sul palco energia, irriverenza e sensualità alternando a celebri successi come «Grace Kelly», «Origin of Love» e «Happy Ending,» i brani trascinanti del nuovo disco: «Tiny Love», «Tomorrow» o l’ammiccante «Ice Cream».

 

 

Un mix di musiche gioiose e testi spesso duri: ritmi travolgenti per raccontare storie amare, memorie d’infanzia, lotte interiori per cercare e affermare la propria identità. Quella sessuale, a lungo repressa in gioventù e che ora vuole declinare nel modo più libero e trasparente possibile. Divertendosi a provocare e, addirittura, a cercare di scandalizzare il suo pubblico, ora che non si sente più frenato da vincoli, compresi quelli televisivi. Convinto che negli ultimi quindici anni la musica pop sia stata castrata, privata della sua ispirazione più sensuale, dell’energia del sesso, Mika, che si sente artista di nicchia anche se è seguito da fan adoranti in tutti i continenti, prova a scuotere questo establishment. Ricostruiscono l’immaginario di un’Italia difficile, ormai sbiadita nella memoria: quella dei «ragazzi di vita» di Pasolini.

 

Dopo «CasaMika», «X Factor» e sei edizioni di «The Voice» in Francia, l’artista si aggrappa a Mr Holbrook per bruciare — parole sue — l’identità televisiva degli ultimi anni: «Non la rinnego, mi ha arricchito, ma devo andare oltre, rinnovarmi. È la sfida che affronto di continuo nella mia vita, duro ed esigente con me stesso» perché obbligato a cercare sempre la perfezione.

 

Nell’ultimo anno e mezzo tra le case di Miami, Londra, Parigi e il suo ritiro (con sala di registrazione) in Toscana, Mika ha ritrovato creatività e libertà. My interpretation would be that it comes out around the time of the album release and that that's the song he'll sing / that'll be played when he does promo for the album around that time.
