MIKA

TOMORROW

in vista del nuovo album My Name Is Michael Holbrook

Google translate of the interesting part of the text Eriko posted:

Did Mika explain that Tomorrow "revolves around the act of making a decision in a moment of hot passion and disturbing fear: throwing myself into a love affair that I already know is rash and dangerous, or doing nothing and playing it safe? In the end the decision is clear: who cares about tomorrow, I choose to live for love and not in command of fear. It's a song about the freedom of not being afraid of the consequences, of what others think. "

So, putting together what we have, I think except for the line with the leather seat we're doing pretty well. :teehee: Good teamwork! :hi5:

Tomorrow, Tomorrow, (Tomorrow)

You and I we're really

really not so innocent

Consequences won't be easy

From here every road leads to regret

But if this ain't what you wanted

Then why'd you even come here, it's 2am

If this isn't what you wanted

Then why did you put a smiley in your message then

Backseat, laid on

Window open, staring

So kiss me in the backseat of my vintage Benz

Oh who gives a shit about tomorrow

When it comes we can worry then

Oh who gives a shit about tomorrow

And then we're lying on a thousand stars

Oh who gives a shit about tomorrow

When you know how lucky we are

Oh tomorrow  worry about tomorrow

Lying here together

Stretching every second into more

I know you're getting nervous

But this is a mess worth fighting for

If this isn't what you wanted

Why'd you even come here, it's 2am

If this isn't what you wanted

Why'd you put a smiley in your message then

T-Shirt off, breeze coming in

The leather seat (...)

So kiss me in the backseat of my vintage Benz

Oh, who gives a shit about tomorrow

When it comes we can worry then

Oh who gives a shit about tomorrow

And then we're lying on a thousand stars

Oh who gives a shit about tomorrow

When you know how lucky we are

Oh tomorrow we'll worry about sorrow

(If?) you'll be there tomorrow

then I'll love you

Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow

So kiss me in the backseat of my vintage Benz

Oh, who gives a shit about tomorrow

When it comes we can worry then

Oh who gives a shit about tomorrow

And then we're lying on a thousand stars

Oh who gives a shit about tomorrow

Oh tomorrow we'll worry about tomorrow

I made a few minor clarifications -- I think we are nearly there, it's just impossible to hear what he says after "leather seat" -- hopefully it will be clearer on the recording! Also, I noticed he says a few things differently depending on which video you're watching... again, I guess we'll get the "official" words soon enough. :)

Translation of Tomorrow into French (updated and shared by Mika in his story :swoon::cloud: )

Demain, Demain, (Demain)

Quand demain sera là alors on pourra s'inquièter

Oh on s'en fout de demain
(Alors embrasse moi)
Sous la lumière de milliers d'étoiles

Oh on s'en fout de demain

When tu sais à quel point on est chanceux

Quand demain sera là alors on pourra s'inquièter

Oh on s'en fout de demain
(Alors embrasse moi)
Sous la lumière de milliers d'étoiles

Oh on s'en fout de demain

Quand on sait à quel point on est chanceux

Oh demain on s'inquiètera de la tristesse

Dis moi que tu seras là demain

alors je t'aimerai

Demain, demain, demain,  demain

Quand demain sera là alors on pourra s'inquièter

Oh on s'en fout de demain

Alors embrasse moi

Sous la lumière de milliers d'étoiles

Oh on s'en fout de demain

Et tu sais comme on est chanceux

Oh demain on s'inquietera de demain

Studio version :wub2: Did I ever say how much I love him? :fangurl:

Thank you Deb

Could the missing words be: "catching on"?

I really, really it's "catching on to this" or "catching on to something" (more likely the latter) and I honestly can't make it out better than that, it's driving me crazy. I'm just listening to that part over and over because it's bothering me too much.

And why this mainstream sound again? Tomorrow has the same problem as Dear Jealousy, Sanremo and even Ice Cream. The melody is great, the sound is too pop, too simple, too flat. After 4 albums and Tiny Love I know Mika can do better. I have this feeling I don't like that that special Mika's sound was really Greg Wells's sound. Good thing is all the songs seem to sound much better live and we'll have a live album.

I do hear the words "catching on" but I can't hear what's after that. Grrr. I'm like you, listening to it over and over, trying to figure it out.

And earlier, I think it's stereo on, not staring... but still not 100% sure.

I updated my earlier post, with a few minor changes so it matches the studio version, rather than the live versions we've heard so far.  We're very close, regardless!

Okay, it's definitely "stereo on" I hear that, and it's "leather seat catchin onto skin" according to lyric genius.

Yes, that could be it, makes sense as well.

I think it's also "If you say you'll be there tomorrow" - because I can hear he sings something before "say". Some things are hard to understand, because he's singing another melody at the same time.

I'm still not sure about how much I like the song. I'm certainly not as excited about it as I am about Tiny Love and Dear Jealousy. I like some musical arrangements in the recorded version that I hadn't noticed in the live videos. Well, maybe when I see it live the song will click with me - but someone here compared it to Good Wife, and that for me also always was and still is a nice song, but nothing special. Maybe it's the same for me with Tomorrow.

I loved this song from the first listening of the live version, and I agree with you, the recorded version it's nice, but it clearly didn't get the best production... it's a shame, because it could have been much much better.  Anyway, I really like it and think that this would have been the best choice for the first single and has all the qualities to be played on the radios :wub2:

I agree with that lyric too! It Also makes more sense that way to me.

I totally get this. I actually really liked it live and the way he introduced the song really hyped it up in my mind but reading the lyrics it sounds almost... Immature? Something about a 36 year old man singing about texting and emojis just rubs me the wrong way. But at the same time, it reminds me of being a teenager (not that long ago!) and being reckless because I wanted to be loved. I think it's a very relatable song (except for having a vintage Benz, can't relate) so that's the appeal. Maybe you'll change your mind, but you don't have to like every Mika song and that's okay.

Haha yes.

'Who gives a s**t about tomorrow' is the line that really throws me off though, it doesnt sound liberating or whatever just ... vacuous and teenage angsty.

I have to agree. While I love the new songs, there's something that's been bothering me about them from the start (except for Tiny Love), and I'm realizing that it's the production. The melodies and lyrics are great, but I don't think the songs shine the way they could.

Edit: To make this on topic, Tomorrow is definitely my favorite new song after Tiny Love. Like many others, I could already tell this would be the case after hearing the live version.

It's funny because this is exactly how I felt hearing the lyrics of Ice Cream, I can't even listen to it because of that :aah:  .... instead Tomorrow sounds so real and frank to me, he manage to catch perfectly that feeling that all of us know and lived, and his voice fits so well along with the lyrics :wub2:  But I also get it why it's not everyone's favorite, since we have different tastes and our reactions are biased, mostly on how a song touches us on a personal level ( I suppose :blush-anim-cl: )  I know this is my case with Good Wife and Tomorrow, and right now I can't stop listening to the last one.
