Un regista curioso dell’umanità osserverebbe come un entomologo il gigantesco esercito di formiche vestite di nero e protette dal...

Abbiamo visto come sarà X Factor nell'epoca del distanziamento sociale

 

Siamo stati a Cinecittà, ad assistere alle registrazioni dei bootcamp del talent al via il 17 settembre. Un'edizione che, grazie alle nuove regole e ai nuovi giudici, mira a premiare la musica, a dispetto del carrozzone. Il racconto del nostro inviato

 

Fosse un film, inizierebbe con il protagonista che si sveglia di soprassalto, apre gli occhi e dice in favore di camera: "Ma che ci faccio nel Teatro 5 di Cinecittà? Sono finito in un capolavoro di Fellini?". Lo studio è giusto, gli è stato anche intitolato nel 2013 per aver girato da quelle parti pilastri come Amarcord e 8 e 1/2, ma il film è sbagliato. Il protagonista, che poi sono io, sembra stupito quando allarga la visuale e nota un esercito di persone di cui si vedono solo gli occhi fuori dalla mascherina di ordinanza, che viaggiano come formiche operose, ognuna con la propria mansione, eseguendo in automatico i nuovi riti del 2020: scan per la febbre, disinfezione delle mani, distanza di sicurezza, in uno scenario ucronico orchestrato perfettamente. Stanno girando un episodio dei bootcamp di X Factor 2020, lo show di Sky prodotto da Freemantle che partirà 17 settembre su Sky. L'edizione più difficile, quella da cui il talent deve rinascere dalle sue stesse ceneri.

 

Metto le mani avanti: non dirò niente a proposito delle categorie assegnate ai giudici, non parlerò dei talenti che ho visto (ma un paio mi hanno davvero lasciato con la bocca aperta), non rivelerò niente del nuovo studio, che non contiene alcun pubblico e fa sembrare le audizioni qualcosa di più serio, intimo e urbano allo stesso tempo, a differenza del circo a cui siamo abituati. Posso dirvi solo che, nel backstage, ho fatto le stesse identiche scelte del giudice che stava registrando e questa è una strizzata d'occhio al produttore generale per un lavoretto interinale da quelle parti. Posso parlare sottovoce dello stile urban dello studio, del tutto rinnovato per venire incontro alla necessità di registrare le puntate senza il pubblico, e vi rivelerò che il tavolo dei giudici è a forma di X, con ogni artista all'estremità, per ovviare al distanziamento imposto.

 

Inviare me a X Factor, che follia. Lo guardo dalla prima puntata, intrappolato tra la paura e la voglia di giudicare, l'estasi del pecoreccio, il karaoke davanti alla tv e il gruppo d'ascolto grondante cinismo. Ho volato su Mengoni e Francesca Michielin, ho predetto che la carriera di Chiara Galiazzo sarebbe stata tutta in salita, ho visto amici bravi fare le audizioni e non riuscire ad esprimere il loro potenziale, giudici prendere cantonate epocali e lasciare a casa futuri talenti (Mahmood?) in attesa di volare, ho trattato tutto col distacco che si conviene a qualcosa di altro rispetto a quello con cui sono nato: il mondo del live, dei chilometri in furgone, dell'andarci in pari o in rimessa per passione pura. Al talent si va per farsi notare, per tentare una scorciatoria verso il successo, per vivere il sogno americano. 

 

Come ben sappiamo, quel tipo di sogno si è sgretolato definitivamente quando Trump non ha spedito Bruce Willis a trivellare il coronavirus per salvare il mondo, quindi il 2020 è diventato l'anno in cui dobbiamo poggiare di nuovo i piedi per terra. Sembra lo sappiano anche i ragazzi ai bootcamp, perché non si perdono troppo in cazzate del tipo "voglio diventare famoso", sembra abbiano capito che fare musica è un lavoro che costa impegno e sacrificio, specie a mantenerlo nel tempo. Oggi sottolinearlo non è mai ridondante, perché sappiamo bene quanta fatica costi lavorare a livelli professionistici dovendo contare solo su Spotify e sui concerti che non si possono ancora fare in modo da guadagnarci qualcosa su.

 

I ragazzi che devono suonare davanti a uno dei giudici sono emozionati, ma anche carichi. E sarà che sono invecchiato, ma questa energia l'avverto. Senza il pubblico a fare da quinto giudice, privati degli applausi ma anche della pressione, del giudizio insindacabile della massa che, abbiamo sperimentato quintali di volte sui social, può essere anche disturbante, si va dritti al cuore della questione: suonare. Poche backstories strappalacrime, poche ciocche di capelli strappate per non essere stati presi, le emozioni sembrano rivolte più alla musica, l'essenziale. Bene.

 

Incontro i giudici e scambio qualche parola con loro, a naso sono una squadra più unita di quella dell'anno scorso. Emma è nata artisticamente in un talent dal target decisamente diverso, Amici, e nel tempo ha tirato fuori le sue idee. Si è fatta voler bene anche da quelli che "talent merda, la musica è un'altra cosa" per la sua tenacia, per il suo impegno non solo artistico. Mi dice: "Da questa esperienza mi aspetto tutto e niente, non mi piace programmare o immaginare. I miei colleghi giudici sono speciali, stiamo vedendo un sacco di ragazzi meravigliosi, molti scrivono le loro canzoni. Dal mio talento cerco coerenza, perché è il valore migliore che ogni artista si può portare dietro. Il carisma, il cuore sul palco. Qui ho il ruolo di giudice ma in altra sede non mi permetterei mai di dare giudizi, preferisco vedermi come una consigliera che possa dare ai ragazzi tutti i gli strumenti possibili per raggiungere il loro obiettivo".

 

Manuel Agnelli non ve lo sto a presentare, è tornato a ricoprire il ruolo del cattivo che ti dice le cose in faccia, vacante da una stagione. "Da questa edizione mi aspetto molto, il programma sta cambiando radicalmente, stiamo facendo di necessità virtù e questo tipo di direzione è molto vicina a quella che avrei voluto anche negli anni scorsi: non essendoci il pubblico, ci sarà più spazio per l'approfondimento, per raccontare la musica e il modo di viverla, diverso dal concetto di numeri a tutti i costi, del successo facile. C'è sempre molta gente che arriva qua pensando che la musica sia una scorciatoia per il successo; per me il discorso è molto diverso, la musica è un linguaggio, spesso intimo e personale. Dal mio concorrente tipo cerco personalità prima di tutto, l'originalità oggi come oggi è un po' una chimera. Come sai ho un carattere spigoloso e sono divisivo, ma preferirò sempre un musicista con una forte personalità a uno bravissimo tecnicamente che non mi dà niente".

 

Altro ritorno per Mika, l'istrione, l'artista internazionale giramondo che prende un po' da ogni luogo in cui dimora:

"I bootcamp sono stati molto belli, c'era una certa consapevolezza e maturità nei ragazzi, ho avuto le idee abbastanza chiare sulle valutazioni. La situazione che stiamo vivendo ci ha dato una forte spinta a prendere coraggio, a fare scelte importanti. Forse negli anni precedenti c'era più incoscienza e qualcuno si buttava semplicemente per vedere come sarebeb andata. Quest'anno no, ci sono persone determinate e seriamente motivate. Dal mio talento mi aspetto che voglia, come me, fare un percorso di ricerca per portare emozione al pubblico, per farlo sognare. C’è bisogno di questo, è più che mai importante che l’arte e la musica portino consolazione, speranza, prospettiva, ispirazione. È un lavoro che dobbiamo fare".

 

La new entry per tutti, addetti ai lavori compresi, è Hell Raton aka Manuelito: il producer più figo – e conta eccome – che il programma abbia mai avuto in giuria, che con Machete ha conquistato tutte le classifiche. Mi dicono dalle retrovie che sarà davvero una sorpresa in positivo per il pubblico, e vedendolo in azione non posso che essere d'accordo. "I bootcamp sono stati stimolanti da tanti punti di vista. Mi piace l’atmosfera che si è creata nella gabbia dei commenti con i giudici, mi ha permesso di confrontarmi con i miei colleghi e di rivedere i concorrenti anche delle altre categorie. Il momento più difficile è stato quando ho dovuto assegnare le sedie alla mia categoria, tutti gli artisti che ho selezionato erano fortissimi e ognuno di loro è arrivato preparato: la scelta è stata ardua. X Factor lo conosco a memoria, ma penso che quest’anno l’asticella in termini di qualità sia più alta: i concorrenti sono stati stimolati dalla presenza degli inediti e questo ha permesso che ognuno di loro calasse l’asso migliore. Questo spirito di innovazione era quello che cercavo e l’ho trovato. Dai miei talenti cosa mi aspetto? Facile: tre posti in finale".

 

Dalla mia, ho visto un ambiente in cui tutti cooperano per la riuscita di uno show che, in tempi normali, si baserebbe fortemente sull'interazione col pubblico. Quest'anno per forza di cose, deve trovare una nuova normalità e sembra che l'abbia ricercata non sul sensazionalismo, ma tornando alla radice di quello che il programma dovrebbe essere: una vetrina televisiva per dei musicisti che vorrebbero diventare professionisti.

 

Nell'epoca assurda dei musicisti che suonano davanti a 50 persone distanziate col metro in mano, vedere come l'intrattenimento possa ripartire cercando nuove soluzioni, senza prendere sotto gamba la minaccia del covid ma al contempo portando rispetto ai lavoratori che ci mettono l'anima, è il miglior esempio che gli aspitanti musicisti professionisti possano apprendere da un talent.

Send me to the X Factor, what madness. I watch it from the first episode, trapped between fear and the desire to judge, the ecstasy of pecoreccio, karaoke in front of the TV and the listening group dripping with cynicism. Today underlining it is never redundant, because we know how much effort it takes to work at a professional level having to rely only on Spotify and on the concerts that cannot yet be done in order to earn something on.

The guys who have to play in front of one of the judges are excited, but also charged. It may be that I have aged, but this energy I feel it. Without the public to act as the fifth judge, deprived of applause but also of the pressure, of the unquestionable judgment of the mass that, we have experienced tons of times on social media, can also be disturbing, we go straight to the heart of the matter: to play. A few tear-jerking backstories, a few strands of hair pulled out for not having been taken, the emotions seem to be directed more to music, the essential. Well.

 

I meet the judges and exchange a few words with them, they are a more united team than last year. Emma  was born artistically in a talent with a decidedly different target, Friends, and over time she came up with her ideas. She was also made to love by those who "talent s**t, music is something else" for her tenacity, for her commitment not only artistic. He tells me: "From this experience I expect everything and nothing, I don't like programming or imagining. My fellow judges are special, we are seeing a lot of wonderful guys, many write their songs. From my talent I seek consistency, because it is the best value that every artist can bring with him. Charisma, heart on stage. Here I have the role of judge but elsewhere I would never allow myself to make judgments, I prefer to see myself as a counselor who can give children all the tools possible to achieve their goal ".

Manuel Agnelli  I am not introducing him to you, he has returned to play the role of the villain who tells you things in the face, vacant for a season. "From this edition I expect a lot, the program is changing radically, we are making a virtue of necessity and this type of direction is very close to what I would have liked in previous years: since there is no audience, there will be more space for further study , to tell about music and the way to live it, different from the concept of numbers at all costs, of easy success. There are always many people who come here thinking that music is a shortcut to success; for me the discourse is very different, music is a language, often intimate and personal. From my typical competitor I look for personality first of all, originality today is a bit of a chimera. As you know I have an edgy character and I am divisive, but I will always prefer a musician with a strong personality to a technically very good one who gives me nothing ".

Another return for Mika, the histrion, the international globetrotting artist who takes a little from every place he lives:

"The bootcamps were very beautiful, there was a certain awareness and maturity in the boys, I had enough ideas clear about the evaluations. The situation we are experiencing has given us a strong push to take courage, to make important choices. The new entry for everyone, including insiders, is Hell Raton aka Manuelito: the coolest producer - and it really counts - that the program has ever had in the jury, who with Machete conquered all the rankings. From mine, I saw an environment in which everyone cooperates for the success of a show that, in normal times, would rely heavily on interaction with the public. What are they saying in that video? I only understand "That's impossible" at the beginning.
