In this case Who (Chi in italian) is the name of a tabloid. He says: Chi the magazine. He meant that Manuel is as credible as a tabloid. 😁

If you're not Italian it was nearly impossible to know this tabloid's name. In addition, the word Chi (Who) fits perfectly in Mika's sentence. I catched the reference only because he said "the magazine".

Ritorno a casa anche per Mika, all’attivo anche per lui 3 edizioni di X Factor, dal 2013 al 2015. Giudice molto amato e mai dimenticato dal pubblico del talent, lo scorso autunno è tornato sulla scena musicale con “My Name Is Michael Holbrook”, un album frutto di una marcata maturazione artistica che si è compiuta con lo straordinario one man show portato in ben dodici arene italiane con 70 mila biglietti venduti nel corso del “Revelation Tour”. Tour che è proseguito in Europa e Australia prima di essere interrotto a causa della pandemia sulla strada per l’Asia e i grandi festival americani che erano in calendario: dal Coachella (USA) fino al Lollapalooza, in Argentina. Il suo mini show durante il Festival di Sanremo, che ha ottenuto il picco di ascolti della serata raccogliendo il 60% di share, è stata la sua ultima apparizione sulla TV italiana.
Mika commenta così il suo ritorno al tavolo della giuria:

 

«Torno a X Factor con una forte motivazione e una missione che mi hanno convinto ad accettare questa sfida. La mia risposta alla crisi sociale che i recenti eventi hanno portato è quella di partecipare, di condividere e quello che so fare da artista e entertainer è appunto di intrattenere, fare sognare la gente. X Factor quest’anno sarà una nuova, grande occasione per avvicinarci, per sognare insieme e io rispondo a questa chiamata: ci sono!»

X FACTOR 2020 THE MAKING OF: IL CAST E LO STAFF RACCONTANO IL DIETRO LE QUINTE, GIOVEDÌ 10 SETTEMBRE SU SKY E NOW TV:

Il Teatro 5 di Cinecittà, luogo storico del cinema italiano, in pochi giorni ha cambiato veste. Si è trasformato completamente, accogliendo dentro di sé un nuovo set. Arredamento urban, minimal, ma anche “rigoroso, totemico, potente”. È il set delle Audition di X Factor 2020, l’headquarter della nuova edizione dello show di Sky prodotto da Fremantle. È lì che gli aspiranti concorrenti – accorsi da ogni parte d’Italia – arrivano per farsi ascoltare e farsi conoscere dai 4 giudici Emma, Hell Raton, Manuel Agnelli, Mika.

Ed è lì che è ambientato X Factor 2020 – The Making Of, giovedì 10 settembre su Sky e NOW TV: immagini e testimonianze che raccontano come nasce la nuova edizione del programma (al via tra una settimana, dal 17 settembre), i giudici che svelano dalla loro viva voce emozioni, motivazioni e aspettative alla vigilia dell’esordio di questa edizione. Un’edizione diversa perché realizzata in un anno particolarmente difficile che ha costretto anche a ripensare il modo di fare TV.

Nell’estate romana, la produzione e tutto lo staff di #XF2020 hanno lavorato per circa due mesi in questo studio. X Factor 2020 – The Making Of documenta tutto il dietro le quinte di questa prima fase, un racconto speciale che mostra il lavoro di più di 300 persone attraverso le voci dei protagonisti: da Alessandro Cattelan e i quattro giudici, fino a chi ha pensato la nuova edizione, un lavoro di squadra rappresentato tra gli altri dalla curatrice Eliana Guerra, dal regista Luigi Antonini, dallo scenografo Luigi Maresca, dal direttore della fotografia Ivan Pierri, dal direttore musicale Fabrizio Ferraguzzo, da uno degli autori storici Lorenzo Campagnari. L’impegno di un gruppo che se non collabora non arriva alla meta. Un’unione e una sinergia che, soprattutto dopo il lockdown, creano emozione per chi osserva da lontano la sincronia del lavoro dei diversi reparti.

L’obiettivo è stato per tutti quello di cogliere le “nuove” necessità dei ragazzi, l’urgenza mai così forte di comunicare e di farsi sentire. Anche la scenografia riflette il nuovo approccio editoriale: un impianto a 360 gradi circondato da telecamere, un nuovo studio senza pubblico ma con tutti i dettagli studiati per segnare un nuovo linguaggio. Tutto è intorno a giudici e aspiranti concorrenti, intorno alla musica.

X Factor 2020 – The Making Of mostra come prende forma il nuovo impianto scenografico e accoglie anche i racconti del cast, dei giudici chiamati a un lavoro più intimo, diretto, essenziale: se i ragazzi non vedono l’ora di farsi sentire, grazie proprio a questo lavoro di squadra curatissimo e mai come quest’anno incentrato sui dettagli, X Factor è il palco giusto.

Tra pochi giorni saranno dietro al tavolo di X FACTOR a valutare cantanti, ma i quattro giudici del talent non dimenticano quando gli insegnanti non erano loro. E ci raccontano la lezione più importante che hanno imparato a scuola

LA VOGLIA DI FARE DA ME

 

Quando avevo otto anni a scuola ci andavo a piedi. Uscivo di casa da solo, senza avvertire l’ombra di una minaccia. La scuola suscitava in me interesse e curiosità verso tutto quello che avrei potuto imparare e conoscere. Alle superiori, poi, ho stretto alcune delle amicizie più importanti della mia vita, ma ho anche avvertito per la prima volta il bisogno di fare da me, di mettermi alla prova e di rompere le regole. Quello che ho vissuto in quegli anni, le persone che ho incontrato a scuola, mi hanno dato un punto di vista sulla vita che non avrei avuto altrimenti. Mi hanno reso più libero e determinato a essere me stesso, sempre. Quando, durante il lockdown, ho visto mia figlia impegnata con le lezioni online, ho ripensato a quella capacità di concentrazione e di organizzazione che avevo anch’io. Sentimenti che ho ritrovato anche alle ultime selezioni di X Factor, con questi ragazzi pronti a mostrarci, anche attraverso gli inediti, una parte del loro mondo più intimo. È bello superare la paura di non essere accettati e mostrarsi per quelli che si è, e non è così grave ricevere un no: la nostra parte di responsabilità, pur non essendo degli insegnanti, è quella. Senza i no non si impara niente. Senza i no non cresciamo e non ci strutturiamo. La vita, dopotutto, è anche questa, e non è mai stata perfetta.

LA PROF CHE MI HA CAMBIATO LA VITA

 

Sono stato buttato fuori da due scuole. Nonostante per i miei genitori fosse un sacrificio non da poco, mia madre sapeva che farmi studiare mi avrebbe aiutato a formarmi e a stare al mondo. Insieme ai tanti professori bastardi che ho incontrato nel mio cammino, però, ci sono altri che porto ancora nel cuore. Durante gli anni della Westminster School incontrai una professoressa molto in gamba che prima mi incoraggiò a scrivere per un magazine molto provocatorio e molto liberal che si chiamava Pink e poi mi cambiò la vita senza neanche accorgersene. Al tempo me ne stavo nascosto in un angolo del cortile per proteggermi dalle pallonate dei ragazzi che giocavano a calcio. Un giorno mi vide, si avvicinò e mi consigliò di salire sul palco per dare una lezione a quegli stronzi. Mi lasciai convincere, mi coinvolse in una produzione liceale del musical Cabaret e alla fine mi disse che avevo trovato finalmente il modo di entrare nel mondo vero, e che anche lei avrebbe fatto lo stesso. Lasciò la scuola ed è diventata una delle registe di teatro più importanti d’Inghilterra: si chiama Lyndsey Turner, e se ho trovato il coraggio di cambiare la mia vita è solo grazie a lei. A X Factor ho sempre cercato di trasmettere quella protezione e quella fiducia incondizionata ai ragazzi, che hanno bisogno di tutto il nostro sostegno e della nostra esperienza. Esattamente le stesse che cercavo prima di incontrare Lyndsey.

Le immagini del G8 di Genova me le ricordo come se fosse ieri: improvvisamente ci eravamo resi conto che le cose potevano cambiare da un momento all’altro e che non eravamo più al sicuro, che l’età non ci proteggeva ma, per certi versi, ci rendeva più vulnerabili di quanto non volessimo ammettere. Senza la cultura siamo sordi, muti e ciechi. Se il nostro pensiero è più sviluppato, abbiamo anche più mezzi per rispondere e poterci esprimere su quello che ci circonda, su questo mondo che corre così veloce e non aspetta chi resta indietro. È per questo che dico spesso che è necessario inzuppare il biscotto nella fonte della cultura, così riempiamo lo

What I experienced in those years, the people I met at school, gave me a point of view on life that I would not have otherwise. They made me more free and more determined to be myself, always. When, during the lockdown, I saw my daughter busy with online lessons, I thought back to that ability to concentrate and organize myself. Feelings that I also found at the latest X Factor selections, with these guys ready to show us, even through the unpublished, a part of their most intimate world. It's nice to overcome the fear of not being accepted and show yourself for who you are, and it's not so bad to receive a no: that is our share of responsibility, even if we are not teachers. Without the no, nothing is learned. Without the no we do not grow and we do not structure ourselves. Life, after all, is also this, and it has never been perfect.

I was kicked out of two schools. Although for my parents it was a considerable sacrifice, my mother knew that having me study would help me to train and stay in the world. Along with the many bastard professors I met on my journey, however, there are others that I still carry in my heart. During my Westminster School years I met a very good teacher who first encouraged me to write for a very provocative and very liberal magazine called Pink and then changed my life without even realizing it. At the time I was hiding in a corner of the courtyard to protect myself from the balls of the boys who were playing football. One day he saw me, walked over and advised me to go up on stage to teach those assholes a lesson. I was persuaded, he involved me in a high school production of the musical Cabaret and in the end he told me that I had finally found a way to enter the real world, and that she too would do the same. She dropped out of school and became one of the most important theater directors in England: her name is Lyndsey Turner, and if I found the courage to change my life it is only thanks to her. At X Factor I have always tried to convey that protection and that unconditional trust to the kids, who need all our support and our experience. Without culture we are deaf, dumb and blind. If our thinking is more developed, we also have more means to respond and be able to express ourselves on what surrounds us, on this world that runs so fast and does not wait for those who are left behind. LA PROF CHE MI HA CAMBIATO LA VITA

 

Sono stato buttato fuori da due scuole. Nonostante per i miei genitori fosse un sacrificio non da poco, mia madre sapeva che farmi studiare mi avrebbe aiutato a formarmi e a stare al mondo. Insieme ai tanti professori bastardi che ho incontrato nel mio cammino, però, ci sono altri che porto ancora nel cuore. Durante gli anni della Westminster School incontrai una professoressa molto in gamba che prima mi incoraggiò a scrivere per un magazine molto provocatorio e molto liberal che si chiamava Pink e poi mi cambiò la vita senza neanche accorgersene. Al tempo me ne stavo nascosto in un angolo del cortile per proteggermi dalle pallonate dei ragazzi che giocavano a calcio. Un giorno mi vide, si avvicinò e mi consigliò di salire sul palco per dare una lezione a quegli stronzi. Mi lasciai convincere, mi coinvolse in una produzione liceale del musical Cabaret e alla fine mi disse che avevo trovato finalmente il modo di entrare nel mondo vero, e che anche lei avrebbe fatto lo stesso. Lasciò la scuola ed è diventata una delle registe di teatro più importanti d’Inghilterra: si chiama Lyndsey Turner, e se ho trovato il coraggio di cambiare la mia vita è solo grazie a lei. A X Factor ho sempre cercato di trasmettere quella protezione e quella fiducia incondizionata ai ragazzi, che hanno bisogno di tutto il nostro sostegno e della nostra esperienza. Esattamente le stesse che cercavo prima di incontrare Lyndsey.

THE PROF WHO CHANGED MY LIFE

 

I was kicked out of two schools. Although for my parents it was a considerable sacrifice, my mother knew that having me study would help me to train and stay in the world. Along with the many bastard professors I met on my journey, however, there are others that I still carry in my heart. During my Westminster School years I met a very good teacher who first encouraged me to write for a very provocative and very liberal magazine called Pink and then changed my life without even realizing it. At the time I was hiding in a corner of the courtyard to protect myself from the balls of the boys who were playing football. One day he saw me, walked over and advised me to go up on stage to teach those assholes a lesson. I was persuaded, he involved me in a high school production of the musical Cabaret and in the end he told me that I had finally found a way to enter the real world, and that she too would do the same. She dropped out of school and became one of the most important theater directors in England: her name is Lyndsey Turner, and if I found the courage to change my life it is only thanks to her. At X Factor I have always tried to convey that protection and that unconditional trust to the kids, who need all our support and our experience. Exactly the same ones I was looking for before I met Lyndsey.

From what I understand, the last episodes were repeated on free TV after they had been on Pay TV, so I suppose we'll need some patience.

 

From Xfactor's IG stories, here's Mika's Spotify playlist: 

I love it that he has "Only You" in there, it's one of my favourite songs.  Tho so far I only knew the version by The Flying Pickets, but I learned now that the original was written and recorded by a former bandmember of Depeche Mode, together with Alison Moyet, as the Synth Pop duo Yazoo. So this version is Synth-Pop, while The Flying Pickets recorded it as an accapella piece, but both versions still sound quite alike. It's a very beautiful melody, so I can see why Mika likes it.

As Mika has songs by the 3 other judges in his playlist, I thought the others might've done the same and have a Mika song in theirs, but they don't. Again it's Mika who's the most thoughtful and polite.

Yes, each pre-recorded episode (so until the 22nd of October) is broadcasted on a free channel (TV8) the day after the broadcasting on Sky, on Friday (so for example, the first episode this Thursday will be broadcasted on TV8 on Friday the 18th). But then unfortunately the live episodes won't be rebroadcasted on the free tv, only on Sky.

Ah, but anyway it's good that they are broadcasted in the same week, I thought we might have to wait til the whole XF season had been aired on pay TV. Thanks!

Now I need to find a streaming of TV8, but should be easier than with Sky, I hope.
