PIERRE

Oh wow! What a good surprise it was yesterday to woke up with a new Mika song !

Autumn and winter (but especially winter) are my two favorites season and I can't stop listening to winter songs when we're at this part of the year! So it was the good time for this kind of song! It's not a big WOW for me cause I'm not really fan of the song. However, it's always so cool to hear Mika in french. I love his songs in english of course but as a french, I think I love it even more ! Six heures d'avion nous sépare is a calm song, a slow music and it works! Not my favorite. I prefer Youth & Love for example but it's okay. We can't love all the Mika's songs but the most important thing is to be able to have news contents. And we are lucky :D:mika1:

I only got round to listening to this song this morning and I've listened to it a few times since then, it's certainly a surprise!

I really like it too! I haven't heard of Pierre Lapointe before but his and Mika's voices sort of match and they sound good together. I can understand why people are calling it a holiday song but not a Christmas song (well there's no mention of Christmas in the lyrics), the bells at the beginning and end make it feel wintry. It's catchy too (with a foot tapping beat!) and rather upbeat for a break up song, a Mika influence perhaps? 🤔 it's certainly his style. I tend to like happy songs with sad lyrics anyway 😅

Listening to French music is really helping me understand and learn the language so I don't mind it not being in English, at least it's a song I can sing along to!

I'd love to know who did the artwork for it. Whoever did has certainly captured Mika's handsomeness!

Thank you! Their artwork is amazing, had to give them a follow 😊

Also the song does remind me of something, another song I mean, I think it's the rhythm, but I can't quite put my finger on it. I'll have to listen more, I'm sure it'll come to me 😅

Well this was a lovely surprise after working a nightshift! What a cute song! Christmassy tho (kinda Last Christmas with its theme lol), so a bit early lol. But I've heard it 4 times in a row now lol. I'm a little like 'French again...' but I do love songs in French so that's fine.

Pierre Lapointe

J’espère qu’on pourra revenir à la formule habituelle l’an prochain.

Pierre Lapointe

HIS WINTER CHANSONS ALBUM IS COMPOSED OF ORIGINAL PIECES

"I wanted listening to this record to feel the snow and the holiday season, and I think I did."

"I have a love-hate relationship with the Christmas classics!" Pierre Lapointe had been thinking for some time of presenting an album of Christmas carols, but he wanted to come up with something different, far from the usual clichés. Here he is presenting Chansons hivernales, a record tinged with the colors of the holiday season, but which can also be listened to during the winter months. Interview with an artist with many projects.

Pierre, how did this desire to make Chansons hivernales come about?

I wanted to create an album of songs that can be listened to all winter long, not a Christmas album. Christmas and New Years are sure to be very present on the record, but there are several others. I've been telling my team for at least 15 years that I want to make such an album. It was a great challenge to get there without falling into the clichés of holiday songs. In addition, we have this idea that when an artist releases a Christmas album, it means that his career is on the decline. But this is not the case. My career is going well, and my songs are new creations that I am proud of.

How would you describe this album?

For this record, I collaborated with co-authors who had fun playing with Christmas codes, without taking the easy way. I wrote some very sad songs for this album. It contains joy, but it is also imbued with the loneliness and sadness that accompany the holiday season. It also contains a lot of humor and self-deprecation. It's an ode to both loving and hating being with other humans. (Laughs) The holiday season throws it all right at us, and it's both beautiful and exhausting.

This record is also great professional encounters, isn't it?

Yes, both in terms of writing and duets. There is one with Mika, then another with Mélissa Laveaux, who taught me to sing in Creole. It's a language that I'm particularly fond of and I wanted to record a song with it. I sing in Creole on the song Noël Lougawou. It makes for a totally different sound, and that's where I wanted to go with this record. I wasn't sure if I was going to do it this year or next, but the lockdown finally gave me time to work on the songs. The studio work was fast and T enjoyable, and it was fun.

I wanted listening to this record to feel the snow and the holiday season, and I think I succeeded.

How do you relate to the Christmas classics?

I have a very strong love-hate relationship. There are some great classics that came to get me very young and that are always with me. I'm thinking of Ella Fitzgerald's Christmas album or Vince Guaraldi's A Charlie Brown Christmas, a record that you can listen to outside of the holidays. Otherwise, I would say overproducing a song, taking a cover over a cover, gets me drunk. That’s why I wanted to make an album of original songs.

Tell me about six hours on the plane. How did this song and the idea of a fictional couple with Mika come about?

The song was born from my collaboration with Alma Forrer and Benjamin Porraz, two Parisian friends. When I wrote the music I realized it could be a duet. I wanted to pit Paris and Montreal against each other, hence the title Six hours by plane separates us. We then wondered who would be the best person to sing it with. The name Mika immediately came to mind, and it happened easily. Because of the covid, we couldn't sing together, Mika and I, but even though we don't know each other much, I know we could be good friends.

Otherwise, how is Pierre Lapointe doing in this particular period?

I'm fine. My relationship with time has changed a bit in recent months. I certainly miss traveling and taking the plane. Since January, I have canceled several trips. But that's correct: it allows me to live differently and at a pace that I haven't seen often in my life. It's not unpleasant, but I miss the pleasure of arriving in a new city and letting go. It's a little new to me, but I'm far from complaining, because I know these are privileged man issues. There is no suffering related to that. I stay at home, I write, I read, I rediscover my city - even if it sleeps a little - and I rest.

Earlier this fall, you hosted the Premier ADISQ gala for the second year in a row. What do you remember from this experience?

The work of an animator is new in my life. It's not my first job, so I do it with great humility. Anytime I get the chance to host, it presents a great challenge for me. This year it was very special, as each segment was separate from the others and turned out of order. It gave me even more experience, so it was extremely positive. However, at the Gala the following week, I found it difficult to be sitting in the room without being able to talk to the people I love. Hopefully we can get back to the usual formula next year.

In closing, what do you remember from your experience at La Voix this year?

I loved my experience, even though the context was special and rather unpredictable. This year I have met some amazing, brilliant and talented participants, and I have enjoyed watching them work. Flora Stein, my finalist, is probably my best discovery! She impresses me a lot. I can't wait to see where she goes artistically. I am not worried about her!

“Since January, I have canceled several trips. But that's okay: it allows me to live differently and at a pace that I haven't experienced often in my life. "
