I used to paint my nails every day! But over time I just stopped doing it, and now I miss colourful nails! No, it's not that unusual for everything to still be green at the beginning of September, even in Connecticut. Although, they do start to see autumn colors soon, since they are further north... but there are still technically three more weeks of summer! These early days of September are some of the best of the season, as far as I'm concerned, with the bluest of skies, low humidity... I love this time of year! I'm sure he quoted the poem because of the reminder of how everything is green. But yes, the poem itself does go dark -- it's about unrequited love, and how the author is sad while everything around him is beautiful.
