Who's Gonna Love Me Now? - Song and Lyrics Discussion

Mika just premiered a new song on the Indeed special Take Pride Live! It will be featured in Billy Porter's upcoming directorial debut, a film called Anything's Possible, coming out in July 2022.

I'm working on my first attempt at the lyrics!

Lately, I hit self-destruct

It's like my on switch won't turn off

I've been up and down spinning 'round

Yo-yo never hit the ground

It's just the name of the game

You can tell me once, tell me twice

Go and take my own advice

I got no one to blame

Tell me

who's gonna love me now

who's gonna love me now

who's gonna want me now

who's gonna love me now

Who's gonna love me in the morning

Who's gonna love me in the night

Who's gonna love me in the morning

Who's gonna love me, who's gonna love me

Now

Sold my halo for someone

Who needs wings when they're less fun

What's a boy to do

When he's not shiny new

There's newer ones on the scene

Nothing left to say

Is this the price I pay

For the man I have been

Tell me

who's gonna love me now

who's gonna love me now

who's gonna love me now

who's gonna love me now

Who's gonna love me in the morning

Who's gonna love me in the night

Who's gonna love me in the morning

Who's gonna love me, who's gonna love me

Now

Tell me

who's gonna love me now

who's gonna love me now

who's gonna want me now

who's gonna want me now

Who's gonna love me in the morning

Who's gonna love me in the night

Who's gonna love me in the morning

Who's gonna love me, who's gonna love me

Now

Now

Now

Who's gonna love me now

Now

Now

Now

Lately

I hear (?)

So distraught

It’s like my

On switch

Won’t turn off

I’ve been up and down

Spinning ‘round

Yo-yo never hit the ground

It’s the name of the game

You can tell me once

Tell me twice

Go and take my own advice

Who’s gonna love me in the morning

Who’s gonna love me in the night

Who’s gonna love me in the morning

Who’s gonna love me

Who’s gonna love me

Now

So my

Halo

Falls (?) someone

Who needs

Wings when

They’re less fun

What’s a boy to do

When he’s not shining new

The new (?) one at the scene

Nothing left to say

It’s just the price I pay

For the man that I’ve been

Tell me

I guess I posted at the same time as you. I think you might be right on the one line I'm missing "what's a boy to do when he's not shiny new" maybe? And new ones on the scene, maybe? Can't quite hear it clearly.

But otherwise I think we have it!  :thumb_yello:

Haha I noticed that too! Always good when a few set of ears hear the song and try to make out the words! :thumb_yello: When I read your lyrics I immediately thought “ohhhh I hear it now too”

Yep! And I think that's it: what's a boy to do, when he's not shiny new, there's new ones on the scene...

Now we just need to hear it again (and again and again) in person just to be sure!

LONDON! 20 days from today!

What a surprise Mika made us. Everybody was expecting Yo-Yo and Grace Kelly and maybe one other song we know already.

And here comes Mika: I will sing you a new song. For the first time, so I can make mistakes in lyrics! Ha ha ha!

I am in love with this song :cloud:

I'm in love too :cloud:

Just got round to listening to it now, it's absolutely beautiful! ❤

I also watched the trailer to Anything's Possible, it looks like something I would definitely watch!

Thanks for the lyrics! I'm still on the train home and can't hear it well because I forgot my headphones. Wow, I wonder if that's autobiographical or specifically written for the movie.

Edit: Just heard in the interview that he has written it for a character in the movie. I'm relieved to hear that - The on switch that won't turn off sounds a lot like Mika, and the Yoyo too. 😅

I prefer Hurts.

I thought I would never say this but I like Yoyo much more than this one.

It also makes me think of 'Ready to call this love'. It happens often with Mika's songs that they sound somewhat familiar, but it's rare that it's one certain other song that it sounds like, it's always something new that just sounds familiar. Same with this, I think.

I like the new song, it's beautiful... I just don't think we'll get to hear it live, at least not in Europe, if it's for an US movie soundtrack. :emot-sad: It's probably gonna end up like Sound of an Orchestra, which he never really promoted much, it was just for the TV show. Which is a shame, I love that song. Well he did play 'Who's gonna love me now' at the Take Pride gig, so maybe we're lucky. :crossed:

Here is a short note about the movie Anything's Possible.

https://www.russh.com/anythings-possible-film/

Amazon is proving itself to be quite the leading platform in groundbreaking queer content. With Michael Grandage's queer cop film, My Policeman costarring Emma Corrin and Harry Styles due for release later this year as well as hit book to series adaptation, Conversations With Friends making its debut there seems to be no signs of waning support for the community. Now it seems, we can expect more in depth, LGBTQI+ content with Billy Porter joining the ranks with his directorial debut, Anything's Possible; a trans coming of age film helping to make serious changes to the ideas surrounding the culture of conventional romcoms.

What is Anything's Possible about?

The film follows Kelsa [Eva Reign] a Black trans high school senior and Khal [Abubakr Ali] as they navigate challenges while falling in love. In an article with Out, Porter discussed his intention for this film to make serious in roads with wider society on the experience of trans culture.

He told the publication "This is an aspirational story. We’re not here yet. This movie might look foreign to people because we’re not really there yet, but that’s the point. We’re not there yet across the board. We’re there sometimes. We have some cases of this, but it’s not commonplace yet. And my hope is that we can move more towards that".

He went on to advocate this by saying, “I want everybody to feel seen. And I don’t think it’s just trans people because this character stands in proxy for a lot of communities going unseen, being silenced. There are a lot of energies and forces out there right now, trying to erase entire groups of human beings from this planet. It’s not going to work. The answer is ‘no".

The story is an example of how the conventions of love can take on many forms, and giving a space for those smaller communities to explore that has never been more vital.

One of the most amazing things about this movie, to me at least, is that it's set in Pittsburgh -- my hometown!

I shouldn't be that surprised -- Billy Porter is from Pittsburgh, too. But Pittsburgh is not the most progressive city in the country, believe me. Even still, after all this time.

But anyway, it's so cool to see the city in the trailer -- I even caught a glimpse of Phipps Conservatory, which is where my wedding photos were taken. :wub2:

So you don't want to watch this movie with me, because I'm sure all through it I'll be like, "... and that's where I used to work, and that's the church I was married it, and that's where I went to university, and that's where..." :teehee:

It makes me very proud that the film is set there, though, and that Mika is somehow connected to it.

I've only listened to this song a few times and now I can't get the chorus melody out of my head! 😄

I know Mika often hides sadness in more upbeat songs but hearing a slower song that touches on deep thoughts of love and relationships is actually quite refreshing! I wouldn't personally call the lyrics 'catchy' but the music to it is just as beautiful as the words!

Similar reaction with me to the original film 'The Railway Children'! It's always great to see home towns represented on TV/Film! 😊

Well, that would actually exactly be a reason for me to watch it with you!

And also: we will both stop chatting once we hear Mika sing :biggrin2: that’s all that matters, haha.

Ah, good to see he wrote with David Sneddon again! Would be intetesting to know when he wrote it, if the Yoyo was first in this song or first in the other one. :teehee: I suppose music for a movie would be written quite some time before the release, but I don't believe him that he wrote Yoyo only during the US tour, so who knows...

but after reading the lyrics here I hear "they're less fun'" as well:dunno:
