Official lyrics from Youtube:

Whisper out your name

I’m on fire

Crawling on my skin

Oh my god

Underneath the sky

I feel cold

Not wearing a thing

You’ve got to hold

Love, feels like fire

Every step it takes me higher

And your skin

What its for

Let the truth lead us to more

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

And if all the stars should fall upon my skin

Would it even hurt at all, just let me in

And I don’t care if the world can see

From the desert to the ocean let it all pour down on me

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

I write love on the sand

Someone might hear if I whisper

Air so dry in our land (komile)

Ngivikele as I hide between your shoulders

Love feels like fire (mlilo)

Warms my heart and takes me high (wavuth’ umlilo umlilo)

Your arms, what are they for?

Hold me tight and never let me go (Wavuth’ umlilo umlilo)

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

And if all the stars should fall upon my skin

Would it even hurt at all, just let me in

And I don’t care if the world can see

From the desert to the ocean let it all pour down on me

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Your love feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

Feels like fire

Your love it feels like fire

" Ngivikele" in Zulu means "protect me"  and "komile" means "dry"

and "wavuth’ umlilo umlilo" means "the fire burned"

"mlilo" is fire.

So there Zulu words replacing some English words

I can’t unhear it now! And now I suddenly understand the song in a whole new light where he’s living his exhibitionist life

But are they the right lyrics? :mf_rosetinted:

At least they're not singing something that sounds obviously different, like in Keep it Simple. :naughty: Maybe Mika told the ones who made the video to look for inspiration on MFC and pick what they like best of our suggestions. :roftl: But interesting to find out what she's singing in Zulu, obviously that made it hard to understand the "between your shoulders" line.

Of course he's only singing from the viewpoint of the camels, and they don't care who's watching. :mf_rosetinted: :naughty:

I'm wondering if she is singing in the Zulu language.

The zulu word "yomile" means arid and "omile" means dry, it could be that she's repeating the line before but in her native language 🤔

So I was right all along that Nomfundo is singing in Zulu!

It's a lovely language and I'm glad she was allowed to use it for this song and that the production company didn't think it needed to be all in English to appeal to western media. It's certainly more authentic this way and gives it a true African feeling.

  • 2 months later...

When listening more closely to the live version recently, I noticed 2 changes compared to the recorded one. Well there were more changes, but these 2 stood out to me, because they change the meaning of the lyrics a little. The first one was "people might hear if I whisper" instead of "someone might hear..." - which changes, or maybe rather clarifies the meaning imo. So far, I thought it was about realizing that you need to talk about your love to get heard and receive love in return. That probably was from when we still thought she sings "I right now understand". But with this little change it rather sounds like "I write it in the sand because I don't want anyone to hear it" - a contradiction to "I don't care if the world can see". Maybe it's the 2 people talking in the song, one says "I don't care if the world can see" and the other one is worried that people might hear of their love.

The other change is the word she sings in Zulu, "Ngivikele", it sounds more like she sings "Nimomele", but Google doesn't give me any results for that in Zulu. I don't know if it is an actual word, with the same or a different meaning, or maybe she just forgot the lyrics?
