I imagine I'm one of the oldest fans here, but I have a keen interest in music and was a huge fan of Queen and especially Freddie Mercury. Mika's style is so reminiscent of Freddie, yet very much his own. I first heard "Grace Kelly" last week, when my best friend says "You are gonna love this!" and of course I did. After downloading the video and song from Itunes I was delighted - what a catchy, fun song - a real breath of fresh air! Does anyone know where the movie quotes come from in the song and when the rest of his music will be available in the U.S.? Thanks, Julie (46 years young, mother of 3 teenage boys and huge Muse fan also.)

Well that explains why googling all morning, no one seemed to know what films they came from, I didn't even think it sounded like Grace Kelly's voice. Thanks for the info. Have you heard the rest of the album, what's it like? Can't wait for it's debut here, I'm sure it's great. He's certainly got the voice and charisma to do anything he wants, I'm expecting great things.

And FREDDIESDOUBLE, I am a huge Freddie fan, even met him backstage once at a Queen concert back in the '70's. When I graduated from high schol in '79 I spent a week in London, searching for Freddie haunts, had a blast!

Everyone, thanks for the warm welcomes! Julie

Welcome, and enjoy yourself! :original:

I ordered the album, and it really is great. most of it is really fun and makes you want to sing along, and then there's a couple songs that are just simply beautiful...

....and you're so lucky getting to meet Freddie! (I'm a huge Queen fan too, and am jealous of anyone who's met any member of the band :original:)

Love your screen name. I spent a number of hours in the Tate Gallery fascinated by the painting which inspired that song by Queen. I bought a copy of it recently and still need to frame it and hang it in my house. Awesome painting, awesome song and great band.

And now I can't wait to hear more Mika! While no one can replace Freddie, ever, another entertainer with his style, wit and chops will certainly help to fill the void a bit.

p.s. Met Brian May too, he was very kind. Freddie intimidated me so much, I couldn't get a word out of my mouth, just handed him a red rose which he kindly thanked me for.

Thanks! :biggrin2: I've got all sorts of things on various other message boards and such for my screen name, and when I came here I sat trying to think of something different...so I thought of The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke from Queen II, which is one of my favorite songs from their early days, and is very theatrical and quirky, like Mika's songs, so I thought it fit well. I really hope I get a chance to see the painting, too. :original:
