Hybrid Theory – Acoustic and Electronic Drums

http://www.roland.co.uk/blog/hybrid-theory-acoustic-and-electronic-drums

Cherisse Osei (MIKA)

Setup: SPD-SX sampling pad, PD-8 and KD-7 pads, RT-series acoustic drum triggers

“I’ve been using a hybrid kit for many years – I use an acoustic kit and an SPD-SX with 3/4 external PD-8 pads, a KD-7 kick trigger and 1/2 acoustic triggers coming out of it. Whenever there is a song that requires electronic kick/snare samples or loops, I load the sounds into my SPD-SX via USB and then use them either on their own or in conjunction with my acoustic kit. The SPD-SX is unbelievable as it’s so quick and easy to load samples – in a rehearsal situation this is exactly what’s needed. I don’t go anywhere without it and if you haven’t got this as part of your set up then you need to check it out!”

Seven reasons it's cool to Hit Like A Girl #4

http://m.musicradar.com/news/drums/seven-reasons-its-cool-to-hit-like-a-girl-594444/#next

Cherisse Ofusu-Osei

Pop session star Cherisse Ofusu-Osei

Cherisse Ofusu-Osei -Paloma Faith, Mika, Bryan Ferry

On getting her start behind the kit, Cherisse, who counts Bryan Ferry and Paloma Faith as regular gigs, told Rhythm: “Before I got my first big gig I played in quite a few bands in pubs and clubs and tried to get as much live experience as possible. I had regular drum lessons and practised whenever I could. While out playing I’d always try to talk to as many people as possible, as I was aware that establishing contacts and making relationships with people was also important.”

On image versus drums, and the pros and cons of being a woman drummer, Cherisse says, 'Once you get into the session world most musicians are of a certain standard so image can be very important. Image is the first thing a lot of record companies look at when they hire musicians for their acts and if you have a good image it can make you stand out from the crowd and get you hired. But of course you can’t just rely on image as you’ve got to be able to play well too! I’ve lost gigs because I’m a girl and they wanted a male drummer to complete the image of the band, but I’ve also got gigs because I’m a girl so it all balances out.'

I found this interview and I don't think it was posted before. If you're a drummer or generally a musician this interview is so interesting. She talks about her touring experiences and her past.  Honestly I've always admired her work during gigs, because I'm a drummer myself and I love her determination in what she does.
I think you all have seen the video where Mika falls on Cherisse's drum kit in Tokyo, but here she describes it by her point of view  :pinkbow:  ( part 1 around 3:35)

Obviously I'll repost Mika   :biggrin2:
