A Lebanese-American refugee named Mika Holbrook Penniman fled from his birthplace, Beirut, to Paris for better days. Education at a snazzy music school ensured performances ranging from opera to pop music. Now called Mika, he has unleashed a debut album via London recording studios. The opener, Grace Kelly, is the first single and its quirky sing-along lyrics are delivered with a fun, high-pitched chorus. Mika sings in the opener: "I tried to be like Grace Kelly. But all her looks were too sad. So I've tried a little Freddie. I've gone identity mad!" It's immediately uplifting. Overall, the sound is reminiscent of Robbie Williams and Mika has also been likened to Freddie Mercury. He still has a long way to go before reaching the magnitude or commercial success of either of these two artists, though. Charismatic deliveries include Any Other World, a sweet tune that exhibits angelic backing vocals. Big Girl (You are Beautiful) is an homage to slightly more than curvaceous girls.
