  1. Here is my report from Istanbul May 29, 2010:

I got to Küçükçiftlik Park around 7 pm and caught the ending set of Phenomenal Handclap band (pretty good), and then caught up with Pinar and her two friends who were front and center, right behind the fence. I wore my Mika shirt from Italy and Pinar and one of her friends had cool Mika style sequins on their faces.

We (not so patiently) waited for Mika to come on stage, intermittently chanting MIKA MIKA MIKA!! Then the act opening for Mika came on - The Ravonettes - and it was so boring I think we would have fallen asleep/left if it wasn't for the anticipation of Mika coming up next. I kept LOLing because after The Ravonettes finished each song, some guys behind me kept saying "Goodbye! Bye!". Hahha. Then, they played a song called "Last Song", and when they didn't leave the stage after that, I grumbled that that had been false advertising. :P Then, they finally announced it was their final song, and the crowd CHEERED. Not a good sign, methinks? Basically, they were the complete opposite of Mika in terms of stage presence. They had none.

Finally, around 11 pm, Mika came out, bouncing on stage, wearing white skinny jeans, a red and white striped shirt, and a coat, which he soon took off due to the sweltering heat that is Istanbul. He also had some really sweet sparkley shoes.

Here are the songs that I can remember that he played (definitely not in order of appearance, as I can't remember such things):

    Relax

    Lollipop

    Big Girl

    Love Today

    Rain

    Blame it on the Girls

    Dr. John

    Billy Brown

    Blue Eyes

    We are Golden

    Stuck in Middle

    Happy Ending

After Mika left the stage, a recording of Kick Ass came on and the band danced on stage.

    Highlights of the concert:

Mika attempting to speak Turkish. I was really impressed, because from what I could tell, all the phrases and words Mika was saying were entirely from memory. At one point he was trying to introduce the guitarist, and then laughed and said he couldn't remember how to say it. I have to say his pronunciation was pretty bad (All the Turkish people were turning to each other and asking what he said after he said something, haha), but I was surprised he remembered so much.

During one song, Mika stopped and went around and "killed" all his band members by pointing his fingers into the shape of a gun at them. When he got to Cherise, everyone was screaming for him not to do it, so he turns to us and nods like ok, I won't do it, and puts the gun down, only to mime pulling out an axe or something and killing her that way. After all his band members were laying on the stage, he turns to us and says "I'm sorry, I've been very rude." Then he mimes picking up the gun again, shoots himself, and falls to the floors. He starts the next song lying on the ground like that.

One of my favorite parts of the night was his performance of "We are Golden", cuz it really seemed like he connected with the audience on it, and really enjoyed singing it.

Overall excellent concert and I can't wait for the next one. :)

Mika's stage presence and singing was just as good as ever, complete with lots of crazy jumping and bouncing around, in patented Mika fashion. The whole concert went by much too quickly, and I just wanted more Mika after it finished. haa. And then Pinar got to meet him, lucky girl! But I'm veryyy happy for her. I also took some photos, which I think Pinar has up on her twitter. And I took videos, which Ill try to upload soon.

And the last thing I want to say is:

Thank you Mika. See you next time. :)

  2. My 2 cents about the pulling people on stage thing-

I think its awesome. Its alot of fun, especially for those lucky few that get chosen. I do agree a free for all could be dangerous, so I think only those that Mika pulls up or pre-selects should go up on stage.

As for those who say that nobody should go up because it makes others jealous, well, i say that is extremely silly. Mika himself is choosing people, and those lucky chosen get to have an amazing experience. Just because you were not chosen, doesn't mean you should deny the experience to others. Personally, the next concert I go to, I'm going to wait for hours to get a spot at the front, and hope that Mika does pick me out of the crowd to go on stage at the end. But, if I don't stand out to him, I'm not going to be ticked off at those that do.

  3. I found out about Mika over a year ago. January of 2007- and I think I saw him on Perez, then googled him. Either that, or I found out about him from myspace, don't remember. Anyway I live in the US and absolutely no one had heard of him at that point- it was pretty fun talking about him all the time to my friends and them being like "WHO??" haha. anyway now most people i know have heard of him at least, and if not, i hum the love today tune to them and then they realize they have heard of him. hahah. how things change in a year! :)

  4. heineken- i tooootally understand. while i had a beyond fabulous time at the show, i was really bummed about stuff that went wrong, like losing my place in line when i'd been waiting hours, and not getting to meet him..... but hey, that will just make our next mika gig even better when every thing goes better than expected right? :)

  5. I think by 'full show' Hilary means the confetti and costumes and such like she said, which she didn't get :bleh: She wanted confetti. :glasses2: I would MUCH rather have the full show than acoustic!! :wub2:

Were you waiting at the wrong door? :bleh:

yeah i have to say the confetti is pretty cool haha but still acoustic seems like you would get more pure uninterupted mika talent. i dont' know. acoustic just sounds cool, and unique :)

actually there were two barriers, and he met/took pictures with/hugged everybody on the LEFT side.

i was on the right. :(

  6. wanna know my feelings?

the only thing i have strong feelings about is the Mika concert i went to.

i might come off as a selfish twit, but here goes:

i am kind of disappointed i didn't get the full effect of a Mika show.

yeah, we got acoustic, but i wanted the confetti, the costume changes, the 3 songs he couldn't play...i didn't get to hear Big Girls, and that's one of the songs that i was really looking forward to.

i wanted a full complete Mika experience, and to me, i didn't quite get it.

and then i hear everyone's amazing stories about meeting him...

well, i BARELY got to say 'thank you' and 'bye!'

no hug, a tiny bit of eye contact, and a wave goodbye.

and because i was so star-struck by him, i missed my opportunity to meet some of the band.

(and i know i was lucky to meet him, even for the slightest moment, but..still)

i know i'm extremely blessed that i got to see him under the circumstances i did, and you all think it was so wonderful (don't get me wrong, i had the time of my life!) but you got the full show and everything.

    and...that's it.

    :naughty:

hold on- the "full show" is the thing he does night after night that everybody else who has been to his concerts has seen! you got something different- and you will see the regular full show next time for sure! so, i think you're lucky for getting a unique mika experience! :thumb_yello:

oh, and i didn't even get to meet him at all when i saw him, didn't get to talk to him, or shake his hand, or get eye contact... so my story is even sadder than yours! let cry. .:tears:

    haha

  7. dudes, its his loss, really. i mean, we all know he's terribly terribly wrong, and he's missing out on the awesomeness that is mika, just because of some misplaced prejudice of his.

i love how the comments are all mika fans. i left one.

i bet this is the most replies he's ever had on a post, anyway. haha.

  8. congratulations to emmalou and charlotte on the weight loss!

i am going to start tomarrow, with a new healthier lifestyle. i will write down all of what i eat, and i plan on excercising several times next week. i just hope i have the motivation to keep it up. i have said i was going to stick with something so many times before and then just ended up letting it slip away, and i want to change things around for real this time...

does anyone have any inspirational words?

here is something my roommate told me that i think is motivational: it is important to take care of your body because it is the one thing you will always carry with you- and it is the first impression you will always make on people.

  9. ooohh i can't wait for reports... i mean i have a ton of homework to be done, but instead i'm on MFC... hahha :D

bonjourmika, i just wanted to say that is a great picture on your signature! i like it cause you and mika kinda have the same smile :)

its kinda funny cause he looks like he's got a little bit of lipstick smeared on his mouth.... you didn't kiss him, did you?? :wink2: hahahah
